An invitation to take lunch at the Great Western Hotel at Paddington station leads Sherlock Holmes into a baffling mystery. Who is it that is watching every move made by popular journalist Farringdon Blake, and why? When the trail goes cold in London, Holmes and his friend, Dr. Watson, must travel down to Foxwood Grange, Blake's home in rural Oxfordshire, to seek a solution to the mystery there.

Very interesting and engaging. This is an excellent listen, even better the second time. I like the way it has layers, and is like little puzzles that are solved. I love Denis O Smith's interpretation of Holmes and Watson. The narration by David Bufton is very good.

There is a lot going on in this book! Instead of short stories, there are inter-twined plots, delightful bits of humor and wit and the characters are full of life and interesting. There are also Easter Egg type of gems for the finding - one of the very few classical pieces I know is by Erik Satie, and he just happens to be playing piano in this story. I just love that! Was Ormond Sacker was the original Watson? and/or the 1890's pathologist in Dr. Who?
I liked this book the first time I listened to it, and much more the second time I listened to it. I am so looking forward to the next in the series!

Great collection of stories! More, please!
Revisado: 06-14-24
The Meinir Davies Casebook is a great collection of short stories that are woven together in a lovely way. I appreciate the flashes of humor, wit and personality that are shown in the interactions with Holmes and Watson. I feel like it adds to the stories, while not overshadowing Meinir's action. The characters are really well done and interesting, the kind you hope to know more about in the future. I highly recommend this book and am so glad I listened to it.

Emily Watson lives in a quaint English manor house with her twin sister, confined to a 20-mile radius around the estate for reasons she has never known. When the mysterious Professor Moriarty comes to visit and her sister goes missing, she discovers she is the half-sister of Dr. John Watson. Traveling to London to meet him, she finds that he is the biographer and flatmate of famed consulting detective Sherlock Holmes, in whom Professor Moriarty has expressed a sinister interest.

Revisado: 04-05-24
I loved this book and wish the next was available. It is written the point of a 16 year old girl, but she seems much more like Holmes than Watson. There is at least one cliff-hanger, so be warned. I thought this was very clever and hope there are more very soon! The narration by Jacqueline de Boer was great.

Sealed away from public view more than a century at the instruction of their author, Dr. John Watson, these three cases of Sherlock Holmes are available here for the first time. Like the earlier volume in this series, each reveals the role Holmes and Watson played in investigating crimes involving actual historical events and prominent personages.

More Holmes & Watson in History
Revisado: 04-05-24
I thought these stories were very good. I found the first one heart-wrenching. Although I didn't really want to know any more about them, I had to look up information regarding King Leopold and the Congo after reading this story.
The second story about the lighthouse was very interesting, and not how I thought it would turn out. The atmosphere is described so well, it seems terribly stark and spooky.
The third story about the Wright brothers was also very interesting, and I had to look up some more information after listening. Mr. Lawrence seems to write stories that lead to more investigation!

Historia
Why, many have wondered, did Emperor Franz Joseph not enlist the services of the noted English detective Sherlock Holmes to investigate the death of the heir to the Hapsburg throne? In fact, Holmes was in Vienna at the request of the Emperor, although neither could have predicted the tragedy that was about to occur. In this newly discovered manuscript, John H. Watson, MD, reveals, for the first time, the integral—and until now—unheralded role of the world’s first private consulting detective in solving The Affair at Mayerling Lodge.

History and Holmes and Watson
Revisado: 04-05-24
I listened to this audiobook narrated by Sebastian Brown in my search for more Sherlock Holmes stories. I knew very little about this particular happening in history. Without giving any spoilers, I will say that I found this interesting and somewhat disheartening. I thought the characters were portrayed very thoughtfully.

So good!
Revisado: 02-18-24
Holmes and Watson continue to develop as characters, and as is their relationship. I am so impressed with the way these stories weave elements of the original stories and characters into new tales. I can't express how much I like these and hope more will be available on Audible soon. Jacqueline de Boer does a perfect job narrating.

Interesting, great take on Holmes and Watson
Revisado: 02-18-24
This is another great entry in this series! It is different, yet true to the original in so many ways. These stories are extremely well thought out. This Holmes is exactly how I would picture Sherlock's daughter, and Watson is wonderful as his own person. Fantastic.

Sherlock Holmes' investigations were not always the neat and self-contained stories that were presented for publication. Holmes' cases overlapped one another considerably, often with the next beginning while the current was still in motion. Some moved linearly from start to finish without interruption while others stretched, a piece here and a piece there, across weeks, months, or even years and decades.

I have listened to these stories at least three times. I come back to them because I like that the way that all the characters are portrayed. Holmes and Watson seem true to type, to me. I find these stories comforting in some way, especially during these turbulent times. I really appreciate David Marcum's writing style. Thank you!

Fun, quirky, supernatural, sort of Holmes/Watson
Revisado: 12-13-23
I'm a big Holmes/Watson fan, and not a super-natural aficionado at all, so I really didn't expect to like this. I was unexpectedly thrilled by it. I found the characters to be really entertaining, and I like how they interact, and I really liked all the action. I look forward to more in the series.
There are nods to the Holmes Canon, but I don't think they are always "true" to how Conan Doyle wrote the characters. (I am not a true Sherlockian, so don't quote me.)
I liked this a lot and plan to listen to more. I did not like the part about the snakes and the dogs, but that seems like a trite thing to write when this is a book that has people getting killed.
The mystery was very good, and I didn't see how it was going to end. I thought this was great!
