Historia
We have a lifetime's association with our bodies, but for many of us they remain uncharted territory. In Adventures in Human Being, Gavin Francis leads the listener on a journey through health and illness, offering insights on everything from the ribbed surface of the brain to the secret workings of the heart and the womb; from the pulse of life at the wrist to the unique engineering of the foot.

Fantastic listen!
Revisado: 10-01-18
More about the ways in which we've interacted with and discovered our bodies throughout human history than the anatomy itself, but there are modern scientific descriptions as well. The author's passion shines through and the narrator's reading makes it even more enjoyable (it helps that he sounds like Neil Gaiman and does accents well).
If you enjoy history, literature, sociology or a new and well-informed perspective, give this a go!

Historia
Sleep is the subject of intense scientific debate among biologists and neuroscientists. Why must we spend about one-third of our lives asleep? What exactly is sleep? Why does a lack of sleep impair our cognitive abilities and leave us vulnerable to a host of medical issues ranging from obesity to reduced resistance to infectious disease?

Information dense
Revisado: 04-17-18
What did you love best about Secrets of Sleep Science: From Dreams to Disorders?
This lecture series contains a *lot* of scientific information. It's absolutely incredible that we know this much about sleep but still don't understand *why* we sleep. The narrator is very good at pacing and explaining what we do know, however.
What did you like best about this story?
Too many sources directed at the general public water down the information in an attempt to make it accessible. There are things Prof. Heller skips over, but they are few and truly not necessary to the discussion.
Any additional comments?
The inclusion of stories about experiments and how the information they revealed was discovered make the information more interesting. I still had to listen to many segments multiple times to process and retain everything, but it was never boring!

Adorable on its own, but...

Even better due to its origin, cast, and the fact the proceeds go to good causes. I bought a second copy for a friend, because that's what friends do!
