Historia
For as long as writer Porochista Khakpour can remember, she has been sick. For most of that time, she didn't know why. All of her trips to the ER and her anguish, pain, and lethargy only ever resulted in one question: How could any one person be this sick? Several drug addictions, three major hospitalizations, and over $100,000 later, she finally had a diagnosis: late-stage Lyme disease. Sick is Khakpour's arduous, emotional journey - as a woman, a writer, and a lifelong sufferer of undiagnosed health problems - through the chronic illness that left her a victim of anxiety....

So much complaining
Revisado: 07-26-24
I actually got to around 70% done before I became completely exhausted by all of the complaining. I’m trying to finish it at 1.5x speed. Not sure if I can tolerate for much longer.

Historia
Walking meditation, also known as Kinhin meditation, is widely practiced in many forms of Buddhism, blending the physical experience of walking with the focused mindfulness of a meditative state. This can be done anywhere, from a few steps at home to a short walk on a bustling street, or a longer hike in a natural setting. Walking while meditating boosts awareness, improves sleep quality, offers mental clarity and facilitates a mind-body connection. It is a practice you can develop each time you leave the house, to help you refocus and come back to yourself.

Revisado: 12-06-23
The author has a lovely voice which is very calming and nice to listen to. However, for the most part the book is about what walking meditation is and how to do it, rather than actual guided walking meditations, which is what I was looking for.

Tremendously Awful
Revisado: 02-03-23
This book was the worst I've listened to in a while. Throughout the first several chapters, the narrator refers to "that horrible thing that happened." Obviously, whatever the horrible thing is, we need to know it in order to follow the plot so, strike one. As it progresses, it becomes painfully (and I do mean PAINFULLY) clear that this woman is being gaslighted and for some reason, she just cannot figure out that this is what's happening. Another main character starts turning all of her friends against her and doing things that make her feel like she's going insane. I cannot believe I would be in this situation and not figure out that the source was this ONE person who is the only recent change to her circumstances. Strike two. We have to wait until the book is nearly over to find out what we've known all along. I was literally sitting in my car, talking to the narrator, asking her why on earth she hasn't figured this out yet. Then another mystery presents itself, with not much to work out, but it takes this woman a month of Sundays to solve. Strike Three. You're out.
This was actually a recommendation from an Audible employee while I was in the process of returning another book. I can't believe this was on their list of recommendations. As an aside, there are several very detailed references to clothing that have nothing whatsoever to do with the plot or character development. Things like, "she was wearing a red shirt with flowers embroidered on the collar." ??? Who needs to know this? What have we learned? I almost returned this book a bunch of times, but in the end decided to stick it out so that I could review it (FYI, you can't review a book if you return it).
I'm happy to report that I'm FINALLY done with it, after struggling to finish it for over a month. I have an hour+ commute to work and back so I spend a LOT of time listening to audiobooks. Onward and upward. Please, dear God. Make the next one better.

Jess needs a fresh start. She’s broke and alone, and she’s just left her job under less than ideal circumstances. Her half-brother Ben didn’t sound thrilled when she asked if she could crash with him for a bit, but he didn’t say no, and surely everything will look better from Paris. Only when she shows up – to find a very nice apartment, could Ben really have afforded this? – he’s not there.

Revisado: 05-03-22
So many characters, none of them likable. Which makes me completely disinterested in whatever the outcome is. So what? I'm not given any reason to care about any of these characters. SUCH a disappointment. Basically listening to rich people whine about their troubles for 12 1/2 hours.

Historia
Six years after the fight that ended their friendship, Daphne Berg is shocked when Drue Cavanaugh walks back into her life, looking as lovely and successful as ever, with a massive favor to ask. Daphne hasn’t spoken one word to Drue in all this time - she doesn’t even hate-follow her ex-best friend on social media - so when Drue asks if she will be her maid-of-honor at the society wedding of the summer, Daphne is rightfully speechless.

Difficult to listen to
Revisado: 02-11-21
I have either read or listened to every Jennifer Weiner book ever written. I enjoy them every time. This narrator made this one incredibly difficult to continue. She may be an Australian actress, but she's mispronouncing ever "t" as a "d." It seems like someone who's making a living off of reading aloud should be able to correctly pronounce the words.

Historia
Florida journalism undergrad Rebecca Sorley is like any other college student. She tries to keep up with her studies, her friends, and her hot-tempered roommate, Ellie, who regularly courts trouble with the law. When a male student's remains are found in alligator-infested waters, the university warns students to stay away from the reptiles. But then a second body shows up, and the link is undeniable. Both men belonged to the same fraternity and had a reputation for preying on and hurting women.

Disappointing
Revisado: 02-11-21
The Collector series was amazing - I enjoyed every book in the series.
This was a definite departure, and as far as I'm concerned, nowhere near as good.
If this is the first Dot Hutchison book you've listened to, do yourself a favor and listen to The Butterfly Garden instead.
This story was repetitive, preachy, predictable, and boring. I forced myself to listen all the way through because I loved the author's first book series. I regret the time I wasted on this.

Revisado: 06-29-20
Every single word that ends in -ing is pronounced as -een. I can't stand it. With the amount of money I pay on a monthly basis, I don't think it's too much to ask to have narrators who can enunciate.

Narrator No Bueno
Revisado: 06-05-20
The story is very good (as usual) but the narrator is very difficult to listen to. She is quite monotone and does little to distinguish between characters. It took me until about a 1/3 of the way in to figure out what was going on and who was who because it all sounds like...well...like someone reading a book. But not a person who is being paid to enliven the text and entertain listeners. I miss the animated storytelling of Caroline Lee.

Imogen Church is amazing. But this story dragged on and on. I didn’t feel invested in what happened to this person whatsoever. Never really got details on the mother, and didn’t really like any of the characters.
