Historia
In 1895, two young men destined to make their mark on American life, Theodore Roosevelt and Henry Cabot Lodge, discovered they shared a common interest in the remarkable way ordinary Americans demonstrated the real character of the young nation. They were convinced that the brilliance of American liberty could best be found in the lives of everyday people, rather than in accounts of the famous and powerful.

It's like being a kid again.
Revisado: 11-11-17
I grew up with my parents reading me the Chronicles of Narnia. Although I read them myself nowadays, there was something childlike about having them read to me again.
My only gripe (and this is a nitpick) was that the reader would sometimes lower his tone so much I had to turn the volume up in the car. Of course when he returned to a more normal tone it was far to loud. But I suppose that can't be helped when you're listening on the highway.

Historia
Wilfred, knight of Ivanhoe, the son of Cedric the Saxon, is in love with his father's ward, Rowena. Cedric, however, wishes her to marry Athelstane, a descendant of the royal Saxon line, whom Cedric hopes will restore the Saxon succession. With a colorful cast of chivalric knights and fair ladies, this action-filled novel comes complete with feats of derring-do, the pageantry of a tournament, and a great flame-engulfed castle - all of which makes it the most enthralling of Scott's creations.

IT'S A CLASSIC BUT I DIDN'T ENJOY IT
Revisado: 04-04-16
Once again, I grew up watching the Hollywood classic which stared George Sanders and Elizabeth Taylor. Unlike the movie, the hero of the book is just as bigoted as the villains. While I know this is historically accurate, it's not something I'm all that eager to listen to again. What's more the author's portrayal of the Jewish merchant is an unflattering stereotype. I understand this was originally published in 1820 and I know it's one of the classics; I just didn't enjoy it.

Tales of Mowgli, the boy raised by animals in the exotic jungles of India; Rikkitikkitavi, a courageous young mongoose who battles the sinister black cobra Nag; Toomai, the boy who works with elephants; and more will delight listeners both young and old. These classic stories brim with adventure and thrills as the lively characters fend off ferocious tigers and deadly snakes, slip through the jungle to watch elephants dance, and seek refuge from dangerous hunters.

THE VILLAIN IS LITERALLY LAME--
Revisado: 04-04-16
Ever since Disney made their animated feature the title "The Jungle Book" has been synonymous with the story of Mowgli, the man-cub. There are, of course, other stories withing the Jungle Book; my favorite is Rikki Tikki Tavi.
But while the changes Disney made to the Prydain Chronicles ruined the movie, the changes to Mowgli's story seem to be an improvement. The best example I can think of, without getting into spoilers, would be the villain; Shere Khan. In the movie he is a menacing tiger that strike fear into tall the animal's hearts. In this book he is a lame tiger, who the animals berate as a cattle killer.
The performance is good and you do get a lot of other stories but I was disappointed with the way the original author portrayed his own villain. It's still a descent book.

Historia
Mild-mannered Walter Mitty is a day-dreamer who escapes his anonymous life by disappearing into a world of fantasies filled with heroism, romance and action. This well-known and beloved tale has launched its famous protagonist into the cultural lexicon, warranting his inclusion in English-language dictionaries and countless anthologies. Stiller's imaginative performance as Mitty is the perfect re-introduction to the classic character and a great preface to the upcoming film, for longtime fans and new listeners alike.

ONE OF THE FEW TIMES THE MOVIE WAS BETTER
Revisado: 04-04-16
I grew up with the classic Danny Kaye movie. The new Ben Stiller movie follows in the spirit of the classic. However the short story which is the basis for both movies is far different. Instead of the hopeless dreamer who gets caught up in a real life adventure that will change his life forever, we get a beaten down man who can only escape his mundane life through his imagination. The character does not go through any growth. It is frankly a depressing story. Ben Stiller does a great job with his performance but its not enough to save a boring story.
If you're curious you might as well get it, but that's only because its free.

THIS IS THE HALO MOVIE I WANT TO SEE
Revisado: 04-04-16
This is the story of how Spartan 117 became the Master Chief we know and love today. From his "recruitment" on a school playground, to becoming the leader of the Spartans, through their genetic augmentations, and their first contact with the hostile alien Covenant, we get to know the man behind the armor.
We also get to know other important Halo characters like Cortana and Captain Keys. The background really does make you care more about the characters whether you're playing game or reading the next book.
The best Halo book I've listened to so far. Whether you're a fan of the games or just a fan of good science fiction, you'll want to listen to this one.

A SOLID FANTASY--much better than the movie
Revisado: 04-04-16
Until recently, I didn't realize that Disney's "The Black Calderon" was actually based off a book. When I heard that there was a book, and that Disney did not do the original story justice, I had to check it out. And I have to say, I really enjoyed this story. The protagonist is much more interesting than the Disney version.
It's a classic coming of age story in which our young hero learns that heroes come in all shapes and sizes. I was impressed with how little the author used exposition. For example the concept of the bard's magic harp that breaks a string each time he, um, stretches the truth was clear but it was never spelled out.
I don't want to get into spoilers so I'll just say if you're looking for a good fantasy adventure you've found one here.

Times are desperate for the Rebel Alliance. Harassment by the Empire and a shortage of vital supplies are hindering completion of a new secret base on the ice planet Hoth. So when Mid Rim merchants offer much-needed materials for sale, Princess Leia Organa and Han Solo lead an Alliance delegation to negotiate a deal. But when treachery forces the rebel ship to flee into territory controlled by pirates, Leia makes a shocking discovery: The fierce marauders come from Leia's homeworld of Alderaan, recently destroyed by the Death Star.

The Characters Are All Wrong
Revisado: 01-22-16
I have a lot of gripes with this book but since Leia is obviously the main character we'll focus on what they did to her.
What append to the Princess Leia that grabbed a blaster and started shooting stormtroopers? What happened to the Princess Leia that was ready to let Chewy kill Lando because he betrayed them? What happened to the Princess Leia that strangled Jabba the Hutt with a chain? What happened to the Princess Leia that killed two stormtroopers after being shot in the arm?
In this book, the strong Princess Leia we all know and love is sadly absent. We get a Leia that is forced into command because there was nobody else left instead of the take charge Leia that bossed people around even when she had no authority. This Leia thinks you can come to an understanding with a pirate chief... A PIRATE CHIEF.
If I go any further, I'll be getting into real spoilers; so all I'll say is Razor's Edge is probably the worst Star Wars book I've ever listened to.

Sound Quality
Revisado: 01-22-16
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
The story is a good story but the sound quality is horrible. It sounded like I put my phone in a cardboard box and sealed it up and that was with headphones in. Look for another copy.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
His voice seemed to done on and on.
Any additional comments?
The story is Great, it's a classic, but I would recommend finding a different recording.

My #1: Action, Adventure, & Romance
Revisado: 01-22-16
Where does Captain Blood rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I have listened to Captain Blood no less than four times; two of those times I still had audio books in my library that I had not listened to yet. It is safe to say this is my favorite book.
What does Robert Whitfield bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Until I got the audio-book, my only exposure to Captain Blood was through the Errol Flynn classic based on the book. It may sound strange but I never thought of Peter Blood with an Irish accent. Robert Whitfield's portrayal of the character was superb.
Any additional comments?
As I said, I was introduced to Captain Blood through the 1935 film. I was surprised how faithful the movie was to the book. Of course there are differences but each time I saw a difference I thought the book was better. If you're a fan of the film you'll love this book.
