Historia
For years, the ancient alien AI known as Skippy (the Magnificent, don’t forget that part) has been able to do one impossible thing after another. What is his secret? It’s simple: 100 percent Grade-A extreme awesomeness. And also because he had never been faced with an opponent of equal power. Until now. This time, he might need a little help from a band of filthy monkeys.

For good or for Ill more of the same.
Revisado: 06-09-22
If you wanted more EXFOR this sure is more. I did and I liked it but the series problems have not been worked on at all. Alanson is a good writer and he can write good characters. It just seems whenever that character is coded as anything other than male his abilities completely fall apart.
He has no ability to write interesting female characters... like at all. Nagatha was the closest he ever got and she's never around anymore with the Dutchman sidelined. The Mavericks team has three female members but side from their general role in the group and who they happen to be sleeping with I could not tell you a damn thing about any of them or any of Valkyries crew. Sure they do stuff and talk sometimes but it never really feels like they get to do anything. Sure there was a little talk about Adams but it was barely there. Frey got a scene but it was mostly a description of something she was experiencing and less of her doing anything or having a notable personality aside from being special forces and inserting a good old Canadian 'eh' in there every now and then. Bray is doing what he can but the material just isn't there. Most of the women are just so.... subdued and bland most of the time.
Sorry for ranting but its just... I want them to do something interesting and have an instantly recognizable personality like Bishop or Skippy or Nert or Bilby or Coulter or Jates or Smythe or Kong or Scorandum. I think you get my point. He can write good characters but when it comes to the women its just.... kinda bad.
I suppose I'll give you Illiath is okay I guess. At least I don't normally get her confused with anyone else.
Aside from that quibble about the series at large the book is pretty good.

I'm not a fan of star trek voyager...
Revisado: 08-16-19
But I was really looking forward to hearing Robert Picardo and he turned in a good enough performance. He was just criminally underutilized in a supporting role that merely bookends the drama. I still enjoyed my time with its. RC Bray is brilliant as always and... while I might be going against the grain here... Mulgrew's Nagatha was pitch perfect. The story was alright for a self contained drama. If you've come this deep into EXFOR I cant see you being too disappointed by this.

Trouble on Paradise 2
Revisado: 06-08-19
As someone who actually enjoyed the first one, and I know the original Trouble on Paradise had a bit of a mixed reception but this one helps a bit. It brings back some old forgotten characters and actually makes them active in the story again and I kinda love it. I genuinely enjoy seeing Cornpone and Nert... The female characters still need work and with more of them playing important roles this is becoming a problem. I think its telling I listened to the whole thing a few weeks ago I had to listen to the first chapter gain to remember that Irene was a thing.
Craig I love you buddy but you have to start making these characters more distinct. It might be a bit unfair the large cast does mean a lot of the professional solider types tend to trip over each other. Its just that Perkins feels like she should be the main character and yet it doesn't feel like she is... or that we learn anything terribly significant about her, I'm not trying to be too mean the girls get their fair share of the limelight that's one of the things I like about it but oof do many of these ones come of as "The girl characters" not helped in moments where cornpone's big mouth lands him in trouble with casual sexism which feels like they become this minor cabal against him. Might also helped if less of them were actively in relationships or if just one of them ended up being gay.
Its not at all a bad story its a really really good one I just have my nitpicks.

Erik Schubach is better in short form.
Revisado: 05-30-19
As a continuation of Book 1 this is pretty good.
My biggest issue was the cliffhanger ending. The first one wrapped in a way that you could stop there and not feel cheated. Book 2 feels like a prolonged setup to Book 3. It's nowhere near as tight you don't really get any good moments with Emily and Photon. I do appreciate some of the developments and some of the new characters are nice. However we're starting to run into a bad trends I see in Eriks long form work. I call it "friends in high places." Many of his characters end up with family or acquaintances with a great deal of political or financial resources and it really starts to undermine his protagonists when everyone in a position of authority is friendly and always ready to help. This became a huge problem in the The Techromancy Scrolls and I'm cautious that problem is starting to leaking into Emily Monroe.
I hope Book 3 is a bit stronger.

Mixed feelings.
Revisado: 12-17-18
I went into this not sure the godkings legacy needed a sequel and even after listening to the whole thing.... I'm still not sure. Much of it feels like going through the same motions as the last one in a slightly different setting. I thought it was performed well and it certainly wasn't dull.... but something nags at me,
I think it's the newest member of lucille's scooby gang. without wishing to spoil her exit was heartbreaking. The worst of it is where the first novel had a tight ending this one... kinda drops the ball. I dunno something feels very wrong about where it ended - I cant even call it a cliffhanger it just kinda... stops. leaving major character arcs and plots unresolved especially for the aforementioned newbie who exists the book with baggage still... also get used to lucille talking about sex she won't stop it no matter how tiresome it becomes. Maybe it has to do with how its always interfering with the newcomers plot and that was what I was finding most interesting. The formula ran a bit thin for me this time around and hey I like the formula mostly but I worry we're beginning to repeat set pieces a bit much.
It ends with the promise of another book and... I can't say for sure I'd wanna pick it up. So much of this book relies on a satisfying third installment I have no idea if I should recommend it or not.

Revisado: 06-13-18
I liked it. I have a few hangups around the beginning and the end. I'd still recommend the book overall so take all the things I'm about to say with a grain of salt. I'll try not to spoil but I might get close if the sound of a brutish squirrel girl going around kicking butts and eating nuts works for you have at it and then come back.
Okay, I'm not a big fan of anime tropes, I like my share of anime but many of the tropes employed are pretty groan-worthy. They are infrequent and the book builds up enough good will with me in other areas I wanted to go through it just to see what happened next.
The ending.... is kind of weak for all the build up. It just sort of.... ends. There is technically a climax but it lacked any sense of drama. A lot of emphasis is pressed about one character in particular near the end and its this great big hoo-rah that never amounts to much of anything. I was still having fun but the climax does not deliver at all... maybe its just because there are just... no substantive consequences for anything at all in the second half. None of it was a deal breaker but it would have been nice to see all the build-up actually pay off.

Emily is a normal girl working at Big Burger who has the unfortunate luck to look exactly like Big City's superhero darling, the Chosen One. It has been the bane of her existence, as it disrupts her life and the lives of those around her when supervillains come knocking, wanting to prove their mettle by fighting the Chosen One. With common sense and years of rage built up inside, she usually serves their butts to them on a platter, asking, "Did you want fries with that?"

I've always try to keep an eye out for lesbian super hero books. it's... kinda my niche but this one almost completely slipped by me. I think it was the low number of reviews. This one really deserves more attention. It's sweet and the romance is cute it's a sweet fluffy bit of smart-ass between bulkier more serious fair.

If you like the idea of space exploration and being an asshole about it you'll probably love this book - very few books actually resonate with me personally but I see a lot of myself in the main character that outsiders might find as faults but suit me just dandy.
