Deep Disappointment
Revisado: 03-15-25
Icing and little cake. I was expecting a serious book on the history of capitalism in America. This book isn't it. The authors present the material like a politician speaking to kids in school. It doesn't have sufficient analysis or detail. Audible has better listens in both economics and history.

Historia
Alan Blinder, one of the world's most influential economists and one of the field's best writers, draws on his deep firsthand experience to provide an authoritative account of sixty years of monetary and fiscal policy in the United States. Spanning twelve presidents, from John F. Kennedy to Joe Biden, and eight Federal Reserve chairs, from William McChesney Martin to Jerome Powell, this is an insider's story of macroeconomic policy that hasn't been told before—one that is a pleasure to listen to, and as interesting as it is important.

Great History with Great Analysis
Revisado: 03-15-25
I really enjoyed this book. The author goes through the historical events, key people, and how monetary policy was implemented. Recommend to everyone with a history or economics interest.
The only criticism I have for the author is he covers a period of history where technology changes. He didn't indicate how the invention of the microprocessor, desktop computers, or semiconductors affected the monetary policy thinking. I hope he will produce another book discussing this in his future books.

Historia
You may be surprised to learn that microchips are the new oil—the scarce resource on which the modern world depends. Today, military, economic, and geopolitical power are built on a foundation of computer chips. Virtually everything—from missiles to microwaves—runs on chips, including cars, smartphones, the stock market, even the electric grid. Until recently, America designed and built the fastest chips and maintained its lead as the #1 superpower, but America’s edge is in danger of slipping, undermined by players in Taiwan, Korea, and Europe taking over manufacturing.

Historia
The National Football League's current dominance has obscured how professional football got its start. In The League, John Eisenberg reveals that Art Rooney, George Halas, Tim Mara, George Preston Marshall, and Bert Bell took an immense risk by investing in the professional game. At that time, the sport barely registered on the national scene. The five owners succeeded only because at critical junctures in the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s, each sacrificed the short-term success of his team for the longer-term good of the League.

The author made a wise choice to do the voice work for Audible. The Book gives the listener the complete story about Labour's election victory.
I hope the author will consider doing another book about how the UK media works during an election. She explains towards the end about the effect of false videos shrinking Labour's expected vote. Her background is ideal. Looking forward to her next work.

For decades in America, car racing meant NASCAR, and to a lesser extent IndyCar, with Formula 1—the wealthiest racing league in the world—a distant third. Fast forward to 2023, and F1 has emerged at the front of the pack powered by a passionate yet nascent American fanbase. The F1 juggernaut has arrived, but this checkered flag was far from inevitable.

If You Have No Interest in Auto Racing
Revisado: 10-23-24
This book is for you. I enjoyed the history of the sport presented in this book. I enjoyed the discussion of the engineers and engineering. I enjoyed the business analysis of the sport. I enjoyed the characters like Enzo Ferrari. If you are someone who enjoys the subjects history, economics, strategy, technology - this book is for you.
Prior to reading this book, I agreed with comedic legend George Carlin who explained that watching people drive in circles doesn't impress. The authors impress. The voice used to present the book was an excellent choice.
This would make a good program for the history channel like Chernow's Grant.

Historia
Will Hutton’s passionate book shows how the right and left have gone wrong over the course of the last century – and how we can remake a better Britain. Britain’s inability to invest in itself is at the heart of our problems. The malevolent thread linking the grievous errors of the last forty-five years is the attempt to create the utopia of free markets and a minimal state. The terrible consequences scar our country today. We need an alternative economic and political philosophy, especially if we are to ward off a nihilist populism.

Excellent historical analysis of UK political and economic issues.
Revisado: 09-15-24
This book goes through all the relevant history of the problems the UK has had. The author explains his recommendations for change like a sovereign wealth fund and pension reform. It was a smart choice to start the book off with a discussion between the author and Alistair Campbell.
I recommend this book to anyone who likes UK politics, economics, and is looking for ideas for change.

Six years after Brexit, it can feel like we're still having the same conversations. This is the explainer we need to move on. And we do need to move on, because in the meantime so much has changed. The economic realities that are making the UK less competitive, less productive and less well-off are ever more obvious - and more and more people are finding out the Brexit they were sold was based on falsehoods and fantasy. So what exactly went wrong with Brexit?

Historia
The World Trade Organization (WTO) began in 1995, but even in the first 10 years of its existence it generated debate, controversy, and even outrage. Rulings on beef hormones and tuna-dolphin cases provide graphic examples of how the organization regulates and intrudes into areas of individual consumer choice, ethical preferences, and cultural habits. This deep and far-ranging impact of the WTO on peoples' everyday lives means that it is not just an institution of interest to economists, but to everyone.
