Historia
A soulful collection of nearly four decades of surf writing. In Deep transports listeners into the heart of the surfing world’s culture through the eyes and imagination of a master storyteller. George’s personality profiles, perspective essays, and travel accounts achieve a level of frank articulation that, much like the works of Theroux, Krakauer, and Finnegan, reveal as much about the man as it does his subjects. Peak transcendence and quiet reflection, famous beaches and lost islands, competitive triumphs and personal tragedies.

Fantastic stories well told, but..
Revisado: 07-21-24
The author/narrator has not taken the time to edit hir narration. What's worse is that parts of this book is horribly compressed or noise gate added in such a way that some stories are u listenable. It's too bad because there's a lot of good stories in the book.

Incredible story of horrendous acts. And that's the thing about it, that there was so much of it. This story suffers from the abridgement which cuts out much of the story.

This was a struggle.
Revisado: 05-29-22
Narrator is good. Sound quality is decent. The story is long, unexciting and very repetitive, not the series grand finale that I was hoping for.

Hollywood storytime
Revisado: 04-11-21
This whole story starts of with Steve finding his late dads photo album in which there is a picture of a girl. Steve thinks this is a picture of the Black Dahlia/ Elisabeth Short. It later turns out that it wasn't Elisabeth Short, but luckily Steves father is the Black Dahlia killer none the less, according to Steve... It's a great Hollywood story which includes many famous names from the past. But how much of this book is true, how much is delirrious and how much is Hollywood fiction? If what Steve says is true then there can be no doubt as to who killed Elisabeth. But then again, this story takes place on the plains of Los Angeles, just beneath the sign of Hollywood, where stories and history mix like whiskey and water.

Great book great narration!
Revisado: 07-14-20
A great story is not what it entales but how the story is told. This book is a great example of that. I am not, or should I say was not, interrested in running. This book made me realize the fact that I was infact born to run.

Historia
First published in 1949 and praised in the New York Times Book Review as "full of beauty and vigor and bite", A Sand County Almanac combines some of the finest nature writing since Thoreau with an outspoken and highly ethical regard for America's relationship to the land. This classic work remains as relevant today as it was nearly 70 years ago.

Narration is lacking.
Revisado: 04-25-20
I think this is a good or even great book but unfortunately the narrator does not connect me to the story. I get the feeling that this is because he does not connect with the story and then it all falls apart. Not very good sound quality, to flat and a bit sharp sound.

She's the real deal!
Revisado: 08-19-19
Narrated by the author herself. I first struggled a bit with her voice, but a few chapters in she gets better and the story does to. I feel that the surf part is what is selling this book, but it does not take up to much space of this true life seeking adventurers tales of surfing, sailing, love, despair, thrills and near death struggles.

A thrillingly alive account of the authors life as a traveller and surfer. I do not compare this book to other surf books I've read, it's to good for that.
