Historia
On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

I couldn't stop listening
Revisado: 03-09-23
This was a great listen. The story was engaging and full of twists and nods. I have been a King fan since I was a child (raised by a King fan) and stories like this are why I will always be one.

Historia
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

I loved it fully
Revisado: 09-25-22
This was a wonderful tale and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The narration was spot on and kept me pulled in to the story. The tale itself was so good. I don't want to give anything away, but it feels like 3 stories in one and each time you think it's close to finishing, you look at the counter and realize you aren't even at the halfway point! This will definitely be one of the purchases that I will listen to several times.
My dad would have loved it.

Fun listen
Revisado: 08-22-22
This was a fun story to listen to. I don't often go for suspense novels but the premise sounded good. It only took me 3 days to finish it. I kept wanting to know more and more and figure out what was going to happen. I was able to predict some of the ending but the actual ending gave me even more of a surprise than I thought it would (and a lot to think about after it ended)
The two narrations were good. At first I wasn't 100% about Amy Landon's performance because it can sometimes feel so void of emotion, but I ended up craving her narrations after a while because they matched so well with the darkness in those parts of the story.
I'm now off to search more books by Colleen Hoover.

I'm listening to it again
Revisado: 12-06-21
I just hit the play button to start this lecture series again. It is extremely helpful and gives a lot of great information to parents. I have a 14 year old son, a 2 year old son, and a 12 year old step-daughter. When I was younger and I was hanging out with my son, just him and I playing minecraft together while listening to books on tape, I thought to myself, "I don't have to worry about what's going to happen when he hits puberty and becomes a teenager, cause I was a teen and I understand how he will feel and why he will act the way he will, and NOTHING is going to sideline me.
Yes....I can hear my own misguided thoughts now. Wish I did back then.
I can't believe how much I forgot being a teen now that I am in my mid 30's. And even though I knew certain changes were going to happen with my son's mentality I feel like I was completely lost when it actually did.
Listening to these lectures have really helped put things in such a clearer perspective for me. I am understanding more and more about what my kids are dealing with growing up in an age of facebook and instagram and discord. Things that I never could have dreamed of when I was their age. They have computers in their pockets while I grew up with a family desktop in my father's study that I only ever used for 'Paint" and cd-rom games about dinosaurs.
Anyway, I'm rambling.
This is a must listen for parents. I look forward to the author's future works.

Historia
On the day the government decrees that women are no longer allowed more than 100 words daily, Dr. Jean McClellan is in denial. This can't happen here. Not in America. Not to her. This is just the beginning. Soon women are not permitted to hold jobs. Girls are no longer taught to read or write. Females no longer have a voice. Before, the average person spoke 16,000 words a day, but now women only have 100 to make themselves heard. But this is not the end. For herself, her daughter, and every woman silenced, Jean will reclaim her voice.

Couldn't stop listening
Revisado: 02-25-21
I very much enjoyed this book. The story was engaging and the narrator was wonderful at making the main character feel like she really was telling you this crazy story. I found myself, more than once, looking forward to the commute to and from work since it would give me ample time to jump back into "it" ;-)
We've seen how quick a cult mentality can work its way into large swaths of the country. We've seen how religion can be held like a sword against those whom it deems in opposition of its take of morality. We've seen how fast a single group can label themselves the only right and never wrong so you better do as I say and fall in line. We have seen the silencing of human beings by those who think they know better.
So no. I do not agree at all with some of the reviews that scream "She's attacking religion!" "It's leftist propaganda!" "Blah blah, I see myself tagged in this picture and I don't like it blah blah"
It is a story that begs you to watch what happens in the world and take a stand against the subjugation of others. It says to the reader, your voice can be taken away if you just stand by and let it happen.

Historia
In 2016, the morning after Valentine's Day, Luke's son passed away from breathing issues complicated by congenital birth defects. He was 21 months old. And his name was Finnegan. This kind of loss is terrifyingly huge and scary, but the love and light in this story far outweigh the tragedy. Through comic-book metaphors, Shakespeare references, and lilting Irish brogues, Luke tells the story of his too-short time with Finn. This is his tribute to storytelling, parenthood, and his rosy-cheeked, blue-eyed baby boy.

Don't listen while driving...
Revisado: 09-02-20
....or at work. Or driving while heading to work. Because sight and make-up then become a problem.
I'm a mother. I have a teenage son and an infant son. I have lost a pregnancy between them. I have also lived through, and watched my oldest sister survive, the death of her 3 year old daughter.
Grief is life altering in so many ways. And it is so hard to talk about. Hearing Luke speak about it on the most intimate level is like letting out the deep breath you didn't know you were holding inside you. I laughed along with his jokes. I smiled at the happy memories he shared. I cried at the pain and loss.
I've loved listening to Luke Daniels for years now, but this story, Finn's story, will always carry a piece of my heart along with it. As i suspect it will carry along a piece of so many of it's listeners.
Thank you, Luke, for sharing his story with us.
....dammit.....make-up again

Willy Wonka circa 2005
Revisado: 08-06-20
I am doing my best to finish this, but the voices are killing me. The narrators voice for snow is GREAT. It fits his character well, BUT why does EVERY FEMALE sound like an impersonation of Johnny Depp's Willy Wonka? EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM. The children, too. It's the same voice and it is awful.
I think I need to stop listening and just pick up the book itself and read it on my own.

Wanders all over the place
Revisado: 03-18-20
Sadly this is the ONLY time I have ever preferred an abridged version.
Many years ago I had bought this as a book on tape and, unknown by me, it was the abridged version. I loved listening to it, but somewhere along the line I had lost the last disc. I was in a mood a few months ago to listen to it again so I bought it here. As I was listening to it there were so many areas that I had never heard before. At first I was happy about it, thinking that I would get to hear more in depth about the characters and some more detail about Viv's past. Unfortunately it was not as nice as I thought it would be. The extra detail and stories feel disconnected to the main plot and tend to go on rambling tangents that just make the listener feel lost. Some of the added details are just the author going on and on with description of the Viv or Sida's young naked or nearly naked, nubile, supple, changing bodies. Or clumsily thrown together similes and metaphors that make a writer feel deep and heartfelt but make no sense to a reader.
The Narrator does a good job of hitting that southern love feel. I enjoyed listening to here bringing the characters to life.
