Historia
It’s a beautiful day in Newport, Rhode Island, when Phoebe Stone arrives at the grand Cornwall Inn wearing a green dress and gold heels, not a bag in sight, alone. She's immediately mistaken by everyone in the lobby for one of the wedding people, but she’s actually the only guest at the Cornwall who isn’t here for the big event. Phoebe is here because she’s dreamed of coming for years—she hoped to shuck oysters and take sunset sails with her husband, only now she’s here without him, at rock bottom, and determined to have one last decadent splurge on herself.

I really liked the character growth. In the beginning I disliked the characters, but every one of them grew on me as they grew as people.

Historia
As one of the few witches in Britain, Mika Moon knows she has to hide her magic, keep her head down, and stay away from other witches so their powers don’t mingle and draw attention. And as an orphan who lost her parents at a young age and was raised by strangers, she’s used to being alone and she follows the rules...with one exception: an online account, where she posts videos "pretending" to be a witch. She thinks no one will take it seriously.

Perfection. No notes.
Revisado: 02-01-25
The first big plot twist seemed a bit contrived, but after the way the second plot twist wrapped it up, I no longer minded it. All of the characters are charming and loveable. The narration was great. It has some House in the Cerulean Sea vibes but is its own story of finding a sense of belonging. Lighthearted, funny. One spicy scene and great romantic tension so that you enjoy it but it doesn't take over the story and greater themes.

Enjoyable story, but disappointing narration
Revisado: 03-13-23
This is a book I probably would have enjoyed more as a read than a listen. For being on the long side, it still feels like a quick, light-hearted read. I liked the idea of there being a diary with events planned for the year to help someone learn to appreciate and enjoy life. Unfortunately, I thought the narration took away from the story and could have been better. Overall, perhaps not as profound as it could have been (though I don't know to what extent that was the author's intention anyway), but I was entertained. And I did consider ways that maybe I could plan for some small slices of joy in life like in the book.

Historia
Gracie Reed is doing just fine. Sure, she was fired by her overly “friendly” boss, and yes, she still hasn’t gotten her mother into the nursing home of their dreams, but she’s healthy, she’s (somewhat) happy, and she’s (mostly) holding it all together. But when a mysterious SUV pulls up beside her, revealing Chinese cinema's golden couple Wei Fangli and Sam Yao, Gracie’s world is turned on its head. The famous actress has a proposition: Due to their uncanny resemblance, Fangli wants Gracie to be her stand-in.

A cute summer read for when you want something light and entertaining. My favorite part was the relatable protagonist who succeeds while also truly understanding the everyday struggles with anxiety, mental health, productivity and finding self-confidence.

Historia
For most of its 5,000-year existence, China has been the largest, most populous, wealthiest, and mightiest nation on Earth. And for us as Westerners, it is essential to understand where China has been in order to anticipate its future. These 36 eye-opening lectures deliver a comprehensive political and historical overview of one of the most fascinating and complex countries in world history. You'll learn about the powerful dynasties that ruled China for centuries; the philosophical and religious foundations-particularly Confucianism, Daoism, and Buddhism-that have influenced every iteration of Chinese thought, and the larger-than-life personalities, from both inside and outside its borders, of those who have shaped China's history. As you listen to these lectures, you'll see how China's politics, economics, and art reflect the forces of its past. From the "Mandate of Heaven," a theory of social contract in place by 1500 B.C.E., 3,000 years before Western philosophers such as Thomas Hobbes and John Locke, to the development of agriculture and writing independent of outside influence to the technologically-advanced Han Dynasty during the time of the Roman Empire, this course takes you on a journey across ground that has been largely unexplored in the history courses most of us in the West have taken. In guiding you through the five millennia of China's history, Professor Hammond tells a fascinating story with an immense scope, a welcome reminder that China is no stranger to that stage and, indeed, has more often than not been the most extraordinary player on it.

A good listen full of information
Revisado: 04-26-20
There are definitely some umms here and there, but that is to be expected. This isn't a normal audiobook; it's a professor being recorded as he gives lectures. Overall, he presented well and has a great speaking voice. Without having much knowledge of the subject prior, I can say that I learned a lot and really enjoyed the listen. This is a class I would have liked to attend. I feel that the professor is knowledge and understands the material. I have zero complaints about this listen.

Meh, but short at least
Revisado: 02-26-19
The narration is fast. The story is just not that exciting, and it doesn't draw you in or make you care much about the characters. The writing style is probably fine for children, but as an adult, I was not a fan. I don't want to totally trash the story. It wasn't awful, but it wasn't stellar and didn't hold my interest well throughout, though I did manage to finish listening while doing other work.

Revisado: 09-24-18
I love, love, love that this is narrated by Megan Follows. No voice but hers will ever be the Anne in my head. Sadly it is an abridged version, which I didn't realize before I purchased. I wish Megan Follows would have narrated the full-length books.

Historia
When Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert of Green Gables, Prince Edward Island, send for a boy orphan to help them out at the farm, they are in no way prepared for the error that will change their lives. The mistake takes the shape of Anne Shirley, a redheaded 11-year-old girl who can talk anyone under the table. Fortunately, her sunny nature and quirky imagination quickly win over her reluctant foster parents. Anne's feisty spirit soon draws many friends - and much trouble - her way.

Always a favorite!
Revisado: 09-21-18
Anne of Green Gables has always been a favorite story of mine since childhood. I revisit it often. Something about this book always makes me feel comforted.
The narrator is not my favorite, and perhaps that is because I have heard a different narrator do a marvelous job. But even so, it did not take much away from the listening experience.

Not one of the better Austen books
Revisado: 07-10-18
I like the more popular Austen novels, like Pride & Prejudice of course, but this one is not my favorite. I finished it, but reluctantly, because I want to be able to say that I have read all of Austen's works. The plot is not exciting and the characters aren't as engaging as one would hope. Not terrible, but not my favorite.

A classic for young and old
Revisado: 10-03-16
A family friend gave me a copy of this book as a child, and I remember loving it then. After listening to it again as a adult, I am still enthralled. This is not just a children's book about rabbits. Adams fully developed his rabbit characters, giving them their own unique characteristics, gifts, lapine language and even mythology and epic heroes. This is a book that I will share with my future children. The narrator is also wonderful, and of course, British. I was actually impressed by how fluidly and easily he pronounced the invented lapine language throughout the reading. Love it!
