Historia
So often, Africa has been depicted simplistically as a uniform land of famines and safaris, poverty and strife, stripped of all nuance. In this bold and insightful book, Dipo Faloyin offers a much-needed corrective, weaving a vibrant tapestry of stories that bring to life Africa's rich diversity, communities, and histories. Starting with an immersive description of the lively and complex urban life of Lagos, Faloyin unearths surprising truths about many African countries' colonial heritage and tells the story of the continent's struggles with democracy through seven dictatorships.

Insightful & Illuminating
Revisado: 08-08-24
Extremely well written on the labels, atrocities, and standing of Africa from an African’s point of view; as opposed to the Western world’s stereotypes and biases. The writer was the narrator and did an excellent job of keeping pace and tone. If I had to find a criticism it would be that he painted whites with a broad based disdain that while justifiable, was also akin to same biases he so disavows. Nonetheless I thoroughly enjoyed the book and recommend it.

In the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election, Donald Trump and many around him, including certain other elected Republican officials, intentionally breached their oath to the Constitution: they ignored the rulings of dozens of courts, plotted to overturn a lawful election, and provoked a violent attack on our Capitol.

Integrity and Honesty
Revisado: 01-28-24
Ms Cheney is forthright, sincere, and a brave patriot. A true portrait in courage. It is a little repetitive but that does not diminish the message: Don Trump is a childish bully who threatens American democracy. The Republicans who cow-tow to him are ambitious opportunist who are complicit.

Historia
Most of us have a limited understanding of the powerful role economics has played in shaping human civilization. This makes economic history - the study of how civilizations structured their environments to provide food, shelter, and material goods - a vital lens through which to think about how we arrived at our present, globalized moment. Designed to fill a long-empty gap in how we think about modern history, these 48 lectures are a comprehensive journey through more than 600 years of economic history.

The Ministry for the Future is a masterpiece of the imagination, using fictional eyewitness accounts to tell the story of how climate change will affect us all. Its setting is not a desolate, post-apocalyptic world, but a future that is almost upon us - and in which we might just overcome the extraordinary challenges we face.

Imaginative, detailed, hopeful
Revisado: 07-10-23
Overall I liked the reality and comprehensiveness of the issues. If I had to find a flaw it would be the delta between the unraveling of life on earth due to anthropomorphic climate change and the hopeful ending of a more peaceful existence with all of life. It was clear that we as humans got from a to z with lots of hiccups but it was less clear how we got there… though in fairness that probably would have been quite dry

Historia
From the mid-1980s into the early 1990s, the greatest athlete of all time streaked across American sports and popular culture. Stadiums struggled to contain him. Clocks failed to capture his speed. His strength was legendary. His power unmatched. Video game makers turned him into an invincible character—and they were dead-on. He climbed (and walked across) walls, splintered baseball bats over his knee, turned oncoming tacklers into ground meat.

Historia
Earth evolves. From first atom to molecule, mineral to magma, granite crust to single cell to verdant living landscape, ours is a planet constantly in flux. In this radical new approach to Earth’s biography, senior Carnegie Institution researcher and national best-selling author Robert M. Hazen reveals how the co-evolution of the geosphere and biosphere - of rocks and living matter - has shaped our planet into the only one of its kind in the Solar System, if not the entire cosmos.

Historia
Are leaders born or made? Where does ambition come from? How does adversity affect the growth of leadership? Does the man make the times or do the times make the man? In Leadership, Goodwin draws upon four of the presidents she has studied most closely - Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Lyndon B. Johnson (in civil rights) - to show how they first recognized leadership qualities within themselves, and were recognized by others as leaders.

What makes a president great?

A Great book.
Revisado: 02-21-21
The story of how four American presidents, (two Republicans and two Democrats) grew, overcame obstacles to become leaders is inspiring, engaging and full of lessons relevant to today’s issues. Four American presidents, each unique, are confronted with existential threats to the union of the county. How each of these four presidents rose to the challenges of their time is presented evenly, allowing for their humanity and brilliance to touch our own hearts and minds. Their stories are personal and iconic. Goodwin outlines for us their common goals for goodness, fairness, justice and equality. Each president’s narrative is expertly read by a different actor adding to the overall sense of each of their characters.

Once Donald Trump’s fiercest surrogate, closest confidant, and staunchest defender, Michael Cohen knows where the skeletons are buried. This is the most devastating business and political horror story of the century. As Trump’s lawyer and “fixer”, Cohen not only witnessed firsthand but was also an active participant in the inner workings of Trump’s business empire, political campaign, and presidential administration.

Delicious.
Revisado: 10-26-20
Surprisingly well written. Michael Cohen reveals himself as a thoughtful, intelligent and multifaceted person. My previous impression of him was as thug like character with little substance. I was pleasantly impressed by the man. His confessions of being drawn to Donald J Trump like a moth to a flame was insightful. He painted a portrait of Trump as a charismatic man with star power coupled and an insatiable drive for power and money devoid of any conscience. Yet it is Cohen’s warning of the likihood that Donald J Trump will not leave office peacefully that must be heard and heeded by us all.
