The identity comes first: Evie Porter. Once she’s given a name and location by her mysterious boss, Mr. Smith, she learns everything there is to know about the town and the people in it. Then the mark: Ryan Sumner. The last piece of the puzzle is the job. Evie isn’t privy to Mr. Smith’s real identity, but she knows this job isn't like the others. Ryan has gotten under her skin, and she’s starting to envision a different sort of life for herself. But Evie can’t make any mistakes—especially after what happened last time.

So unpredictable
Revisado: 07-31-24
Great plot, so many unanticipated twists. I love that it was a mystery but not totally gruesome and dark.

Historia
Born and raised in a tight-knit Orthodox Jewish family, Tova Mirvis committed herself to observing the rules and rituals prescribed by this way of life. After all, to observe was to be accepted and to be accepted was to be loved. She married a man from within the fold and quickly began a family. But over the years, her doubts became noisier than her faith, and at age 40 she could no longer breathe in what had become a suffocating existence.

Beautifully written
Revisado: 12-15-18
Tova Was able to dig deep into her soul and so eloquently share her deepest feelings. I was so grateful for all she shared about how hard it is to leave something that has so long been a part of you, so you can stay true to your heart and feelings. I felt so many parallels to her story of leaving orthodox Judaism and my leaving Mormonism. You feel a tug from both ends. These are things that as you try to separate from you have to reconcile that there are pieces that will always be a part of you. I loved how she compared leaving orthodoxy to leaving your childhood home. Although you will continue to go back and always have strong memories that is no longer where you live. Thank you for Sharing such a personal experience so that I can gain strength and learn I am not alone.

Historia
Shame can take on many forms. It hides in the shadows of the most successful, confident and high-achieving woman who struggles with balancing her work and children, as well as in the heart of the broken, abused and downtrodden woman who has been told that she will never amount to anything. Shame hides in plain sight and can hold us back in ways we do not realize. But Christine Caine wants listeners to know something: We can all be free.

Great message for women.
Revisado: 12-05-16
This is a great message for those who have suffered from devastating feats or traumatic events. I liked the message of women uniting and sticking up for each other. And not letting shame drag you down and hinder your potential. I struggled with all of the religious references. I am a religious person but feel there are many who aren't religious or maybe don't have a belief in god. I can see how god can create more light and ease burdens in people's lives, but what about those who need an approach that is not religious to overcome shame and feel self worth? That is the only reason I gave it 3 stars. I feel it only is beneficial to the people who are religious and have a belief in god.

Pulled me in from page 1
Revisado: 05-08-16
I loved the book! Loved how it was able to show how there is so much more to people than what meets the eye. Everyone has a story, and we should never be too quick to judge. My favorite part was when Carl talked about how if there is no afterlife we need to make sure to live our heaven on earth. To hear someone say that after being wrongfully convicted hit me hard.
The only thing I have negative to say was there was some language and some disturbing parts, but I feel it is important to know so you can better understand the character development, story, and why this Carl was such a hero.
