Historia
Jacob Finch Bonner was once a promising young novelist with a respectably published first book. Today, he’s teaching in a third-rate MFA program and struggling to maintain what’s left of his self-respect; he hasn’t written—let alone published—anything decent in years. When Evan Parker, his most arrogant student, announces he doesn’t need Jake’s help because the plot of his book in progress is a sure thing, Jake is prepared to dismiss the boast as typical amateur narcissism. But then...he hears the plot.

Oh Dear
Revisado: 05-19-21
Made the mistake of reading a review of this book title in The Washington Post, did not take the time to read reviews here, otherwise I would not have chosen this title. But I was listening to it while catching up on NBA games. Poorly written, and a very, very unsatisfying ending.

Historia
Flagged down by Inspector LaStrade of Scotland Yard as they walk through the icy winter streets, Holmes and Watson are transported to the home of the aristocratic Lady Whitebread. Once there, she tells them her traditional holiday centerpiece has vanished in the midst of the Christmas dinner - right under the very noses of her guests. The decoration? An enormous work of the jeweler's art centered upon a three inch round emerald called...the Christmas Jewel.

This is a great listen while I watch the NBA - not a fan of most announcers so I turn to Audible to get me through a game. I like thee voices of these guys, Merchant, Gervais and Pilkington - they are three of my favorites.

Revisado: 09-05-20
I was expecting a story read by one narrator - this is a full stage play, or similar to a full performance. So much fun, very well done and entertaining throughout. I look forward to more productions such as this. This format was a nice surprise, and the story is well crafted. I am a SH fan, and the talented cast was a joy to listen to. Thanks Audible for including this gem as an "extra" benefit.

Historia
Miss Marple meets Oscar Wilde in this new series of cosy mysteries set in the picturesque Cotswolds village of Bunburry. In "Drop Dead, Gorgeous," the fifth Bunburry book, Deb's Beauty Salon becomes the last resting place for merry widow and property magnate Eve Mosby, whose passions include haute couture and a young lover. Plenty of people disliked Mrs Mosby, but enough to kill her? And what really baffles amateur sleuth Alfie McAlister and his friends Liz and Marge is that the body is found in a locked room - how did the murderer get in and out?

Historia
In "Murder at the Mousetrap," the first Bunburry book, fudge-making and quaffing real ale in the local pub are matched by an undercurrent of passion, jealousy, hatred and murder - laced with a welcome dose of humour. Alfie McAlister has retreated from London to the peace and quiet of the country to recover from a personal tragedy. But an accidental death - which may have been no accident - reveals that the heart of England is far from the tranquil backwater he imagined.

So Much Fun
Revisado: 08-05-20
This is like listening to a live performance, so well written and executed. I keep choosing books that mention Michael Caine, either directly or referring to Alfie. Quite a coincidence. Not a bad thing, it's nice. But the Alfie here is wonderful. I look forward to more stories narrated by the excellent Nathaniel Parker.
