Historia
For the soldier on the front lines of World War II, a lifetime of terror and suffering could be crammed into a few horrific hours of combat. This was especially true for members of the 99th Infantry Division who repelled the Germans in the Battle of the Bulge and engaged in some of the most dramatic, hard-fought actions of the war.

Narrator???
Revisado: 07-25-17
What made the experience of listening to Once Upon a Time in War the most enjoyable?
It was hard to enjoy this book because of the narrator. I'm reluctant to criticize someone who apparently does this for a living, but Mr. Graham's delivery was like a phrase-by-phrase staccato in many places and he seemed to ignore breaks between sentences. I felt like I was was being rushed through the book to the point where it was hard to follow what went on.
What did you like best about this story?
The soldiers who fought in this war and in this battle were brave men, and their courage is demonstrated in the narrative.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
See above.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No.

Historia
Before General MacArthur could fulfill his stirring promise of "I shall return" and retake the Philippines from Japanese control, a remarkable rescue mission would have to take place. Captured American soldiers, emaciated and ill from brutal mistreatment, were still being held at the notorious Cabanatuan prison camp. A small band of Army Rangers set out on a daring rescue effort: to penetrate thirty miles into Japanese-controlled territory, storm the camp, and escape with the POWs...

A Great Story
Revisado: 11-08-05
The quality of the narration and the gripping nature of the story of the rescue of several hundred American POW's made this one of the best audible books I've listened to in the last few years. Higly, highly recommended for WWII buffs as well as for those who like an adventure.

Historia
This New York Times best seller is a thrilling account of one of the most pivotal moments in United States history. Six months after the Declaration of Independence, America was nearly defeated. Then on Christmas night, George Washington led his men across the Delaware River to destroy the Hessians at Trenton. A week later Americans held off a counterattack, and in a brilliant tactical move, Washington crept behind the British army to win another victory. The momentum had reversed.

A well-read story of the Revolution
Revisado: 11-23-04
I grew up in northern NJ and from my early elementary years have had an interest in the Revolution. I've visited the site of the Crossing, read about it numerous times, etc., but this well-researched book fascinated me from beginning to end. The enjoyment of the book was enhanced because of my present living near Philadephia and being well-acquainted with the places mentioned. The author relies heavily on journal accounts and letters of soldiers of both sides and provides a compelling look at a series of battles that changed the course of the War.
