Historia
A young Native American, Abel has come home from war to find himself caught between two worlds. The first is the world of his father’s, wedding him to the rhythm of the seasons, the harsh beauty of the land, and the ancient rites and traditions of his people. But the other world - modern, industrial America - pulls at Abel, demanding his loyalty, trying to claim his soul, and goading him into a destructive, compulsive cycle of depravity and disgust.

Poor reading of Momaday
Revisado: 03-19-24
The reader really misses the mark on how to read Momaday. There’s a cadence to Momaday’s writing that is poetic and beautiful but you have to breathe it, pause and let the image settle. And sometimes it is just a wonderful sentence or two that deserves space. His writing can move you but you have to let it and I just don’t get this with this reading. I have read the book a couple of times and wanted to listen to it on a road trip to NM and am sad to say that I have been disappointed.

It would take magick - a real, spiritual force that anyone can learn to harness. You have the power within you. Magick isn’t a treasured secret for a privileged few. It’s meant for everyone. It’s meant for you. Are you ready to bend reality? Do you want to get out of The Simulation? Do you want to unlock your creative potential? Do you hunger for a more balanced, awakened life? Magick offers this and more.

A few nuggets.
Revisado: 08-26-21
This is Karen. Book is not quite what I had hoped for but got a few nuggets. I find that is often the case with many of the books that come out nowadays. Stopped after the candle magic correspondences chart which seem to contradict the the "throw out the rules" premise laid out previously. My perspective on "evil" has become a bit more nuanced based on internal shadow work and reconciliation, but then,, that is the work of a much longer lifetime than our author here.. I may go back at a later date to mine for more nuggets. I was looking more for how to appropriate archetypes from my favorite show and stories to my craft than how to be lunch buddies with Oprah and Taylor Swift or on social media comments by Marilyn Manson. Maybe that happens later in the book. . .I probably already know how to do it, if I trust myself, my inner daimon.

extremely repetitive
Revisado: 12-31-20
Good info,, but each chapter seems to repeat the info in the one before it. Should have been a blog post.

Historia
Winter lasts most of the year at the edge of the Russian wilderness, and in the long nights, Vasilisa and her siblings love to gather by the fire to listen to their nurse’s fairy tales. Above all, Vasya loves the story of Frost, the blue-eyed winter demon. Wise Russians fear him, for he claims unwary souls, and they honor the spirits that protect their homes from evil. Then Vasya’s widowed father brings home a new wife from Moscow. Fiercely devout, Vasya’s stepmother forbids her family from honoring their household spirits, but Vasya fears what this may bring.

pretty good
Revisado: 12-17-19
I enjoyed the narrator very much. The story is good and has a lot of folklore motifs and archetypes from the Russian that I enjoyed.

Historia
Prue McKeel’s life is ordinary. At least until her brother is abducted by a murder of crows and taken to the Impassable Wilderness, a dense, tangled forest on the edge of Portland. No one’s ever gone in – or at least returned to tell of it. So begins an adventure that will take Prue and her friend, Curtis, deep into the Impassable Wilderness. There they uncover a secret world in the midst of violent upheaval - a world full of warring creatures, peaceable mystics, and powerful figures with the darkest intentions.

difficult to listen to
Revisado: 01-16-18
Story is good. Reader was troublesome for me. She has very strange intonation that annoyed me throughout. I like YA but have been prompted to avoid them in audio after this one.
