Historia
Here is the novel that will be forever considered a triumph of the imagination. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Maud'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

Great story, inconsistent performance
Revisado: 05-08-22
The story is a fantastic sci fi that I picked up after the playing the Gale Force Nine board game. I won't talk about the story, because it's great, but the voice acting was the worst thing about this audio book.
I was excited to find out that the first chapter starts with fully voiced character dialogue. However, my excitement was lessened when I learned that characters were not voiced in the following chapter. I initially thought that this was fine, bring in the cast for a big performance to hook readers in the beginning and then put the sole narrator to voice everything after. This wasn't the case though as someone thought it would be a good idea to bring the voice actors in sporadically at seemingly random points of the story. This led to a mess of different voices coming in and out of the story, confusing listeners to an already complex book.
It's adds to the irony that the voice actors are all pretty good and fit their roles. I understand VA work is expensive, but it still makes me wonder why they didn't either hire actors for the entire book or none at all.

Philip Marlowe's about to give up on a completely routine case when he finds himself in the wrong place at the right time to get caught up in a murder that leads to a ring of jewel thieves, another murder, a fortune-teller, a couple more murders, and more corruption than your average graveyard.

Music was too loud
Revisado: 02-15-21
The story and narrator were good, but the music between chapters was loud and disruptive.

Very Insightful
Revisado: 08-07-19
Each professor has his own personality, all of them are great. You can hear their enthusiasm about American History. The material presented covers from Columbus to Clinton, and goes in the perfect amount of depth. I never felt like the pacing was slow, and I found an interesting take away from every lecture. Anyone interested in American history should listen to this course.

Historia
A poignant look at the disillusionment and angst of the post-World War I generation, The Sun Also Rises introduces two of Hemingway’s most unforgettable characters: Jake Barnes and Lady Brett Ashley. The story follows the flamboyant Brett and the hapless Jake as they journey from the wild nightlife of 1920s Paris to the brutal bullfighting rings of Spain with a motley group of expatriates. In his first great literary masterpiece, Hemingway portrays an age of moral bankruptcy, spiritual dissolution, unrealized love, and vanishing illusions.

Only Hemingway could make it interesting
Revisado: 05-30-17
The book is about a bunch of lazy, contemptible, rich people in Paris. However, Ernest Hemingway found a way to make it interesting and carry meaning.

Historia
The frontiersmen were a remarkable breed of men. They were often rough and illiterate, sometimes brutal and vicious, often seeking an escape in the wilderness of mid-America from crimes committed back east. In the beautiful but deadly country which would one day come to be known as West Virginia, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois, more often than not they left their bones to bleach beside forest paths or on the banks of the Ohio River.

Great historical fiction
Revisado: 01-04-17
It is imperative to note that this is fiction. I have studied life of Tecumseh to great depths, and some of the information presented in this book is not accurate. Since I have not studied Simon Kenton, main character, I cannot comment on the validity of much of the story. Even if there are some problems with the history, it is a wonderful story.

Historia
George Orwell depicts a gray, totalitarian world dominated by Big Brother and its vast network of agents, including the Thought Police - a world in which news is manufactured according to the authorities' will and people live tepid lives by rote. Winston Smith, a hero with no heroic qualities, longs only for truth and decency. But living in a social system in which privacy does not exist and where those with unorthodox ideas are brainwashed or put to death, he knows there is no hope for him.

A very different kind of novel
Revisado: 01-04-17
The book combines politics and storytelling into one, which may put off some people. The author makes you question oppressive governments and even movements in free countries that can be exclusive and mean.
It has unusual pacing, which some people may find difficult to get into the book. The narrator doesn't have very many or very distinct voices for characters. In long commentaries about language, which loads of people might find boring, the narrator has a very suttle voice change to that of Winston's, the main character.
I think this is a book everyone should read, or listen to, before the age of 21, by 16 even.
