Historia
My fiancé brought me tea and scrambled eggs in bed that morning, and we snuggled together, talking about buying our rings, and about our perfect wedding next year. Then we headed into town. He held my hand and gazed at the ring I liked best, a smile spreading slowly over his face. Then a glass of bubbly to celebrate. I felt flushed, excited and ready for the rest of my life with the man I loved. We race to get on the train home. It screams to a halt and I run towards its open doors. Made it. I think he’s right behind me — but when I turn around, he’s gone.

Wow!!!
Revisado: 12-21-24
The only reason I gave this less than 5 stars across the board was because of the ending. I am so frustrated with how it ended. It’s worth the listen for sure and it’s a great story, but I feel very unsettled with that ending.

Historia
On the day she returns to active duty with the Serial Crimes Unit, Detective Inspector Anjelica Henley is called to a crime scene. Dismembered body parts from two victims have been found by the river. The modus operandi bears a striking resemblance to Peter Olivier, the notorious Jigsaw Killer, who has spent the past two years behind bars. When he learns that someone is co-opting his grisly signature - the arrangement of victims’ limbs in puzzle-piece shapes - he decides to take matters into his own hands.

HORRIBLE Narrator
Revisado: 12-07-24
I am really enjoying this story, and I would like to read the second in the story. Key word - READ. This narrator is so bad. Her voice is monotone and there is no difference in characters. I’m begging whoever casts these to never use this narrator again.
The story is great. Characters are interesting. I would recommend the book. Not the audible version though.

Interesting concept
Revisado: 11-10-23
The plot of this book is very interesting. It might be a better read than an audible book though. Here are my thoughts:
The author reads parts of the story, and his voice is HORRIBLE! The way he sounds versus the way his character is presented are totally different. I cringe every time he comes on. And I know Scott Brick is a popular narrator, but he sometimes gets on my nerves. It’s the same cadence and same intonation over and over.
I looked up the author, and he apparently is a big game hunter. Even if you don’t know that, you can assume it given the disdain for animal rights and anti-hunting proponents in this book. There is one part where the character goes on a several minute rant about the anti-hunting happenings in the 1990s in Africa - it is unnecessary and slows the pace of the chapter.
This happens with other characters, too - they retell the story (almost like a recap) or they blather on in their thoughts to the point that you don’t care. I’m not crazy about the main two lead characters either. For younger people, they don’t seem too tech savvy or quick.
I’m about 3/4 finished, and I want to see how it ends. It’s a good concept. I would definitely read it though (instead of listening) so you can skip the author’s voice and the pages of worthless ranting.

2045, the Arctic Circle. A crew of six aboard the research vessel, The Nox, embark upon a voyage through the melting ice and Arctic dark in search of the last of the polar bears. The mission represents a ray of hope in a world ravaged by climate change, but it quickly becomes clear that some on board are in search of more than bears. Isolation and the disorientation of 24/7 darkness soon have the group losing their grip on reality – accidents, nightmares, or hauntings – no one can be sure, but the voyage seems cursed.

Good story; hard to follow

There was too much action to really follow what was going on. Lots of loud noises without knowing what was going on. Lunch was fantastic though.

Great story - horrible narration
Revisado: 06-24-22
This is an original and interesting story! It blends police procedural with supernatural elements.
The narrator, however, is not good at all! His voice isn’t nice to listen to and there is no difference in the voices, so it gets confusing at times. The ONLY reason I kept listening is because of the story. I really wish I could have just read it.

Worth the Read
Revisado: 04-21-21
I have read all books by these authors and been really impressed. This is not the best of their books, but is still original and kept me guessing. My only complaint was with the main character, Shay. At times she was so weak-willed and malleable that it was annoying. I had a hard time understanding her motivation or lack thereof. I would still recommend the book and all others by these authors.

Good Narration, Not-so-Good Plot
Revisado: 04-21-21
I liked the idea of this story, and the narrator is pretty good. The main character, on the other hand, is irritating. She is supposed to be very smart but doesn't act like it. The author uses A LOT of narration for what is going on in the character's thoughts. If the character was having a real conversation with a person while having that many thoughts going around her head, there would be a 10 minute pause between a question and her answer. I couldn't wait for the ending just so I could see how it turned out and thought about fast forwarding just to get there. The book is very meh.

Confusing and monotone
Revisado: 03-23-21
I was so confused by this story. After the first hour of listening, about the only thing I could think was that the author got good use out of his thesaurus. It got frustrating for me because it seemed like the author went out of his way to use flowery words when simpler ones would have sufficed. It's not that I didn't understand the words, but it was overkill.
The narrator was pretty monotone and it was hard to follow the characters at times since she barely changed her voice.
I did not like this one.

Definitely worth the listen
Revisado: 01-31-20
The story is very good with an ending I really didn’t see coming. Narrator is pretty good, but not great.
I did notice that a dog in the story was noted to be a Rottweiler and then later in the story it was called a pit bull. Same dog, two completely different breeds. That has nothing to do with the story, but it bugged me.
