Historia
From 1915 to 1970, this exodus of almost six million people changed the face of America. Wilkerson compares this epic migration to the migrations of other peoples in history. She interviewed more than a thousand people, and gained access to new data and official records, to write this definitive and vividly dramatic account of how these American journeys unfolded, altering our cities, our country, and ourselves.

Worth reading
Revisado: 04-11-22
Overall I think this is definitely a worthwhile book my overall issue is had I know it were several stories intertwined I would if not purchased it I would prefer to tell a story and it’s entirety without telling part of the story they going to another then telling part of that story then going to another story only to return back to the first story tell part of that story then to the second story to again tell part of that is extremely confusing for me again it is worth the read and if you don’t mind jumping from story to story great if that bothers you just as it bothers me this is not the book for you

Despite a 16-year-age difference and Marvin's marriage to the sister of Berry Gordy, Motown's founder, the star-struck teenager and the emotionally volatile singer began a scorching relationship.

I’ve read two books about Marvin Gaye both books seem to jive with each other I’ve always felt that he was incredibly talented but incredibly troubled man I enjoyed listening to the book. My heart goes out to him in his mental and emotional struggles

Historia
In January 1959, Berry Gordy borrowed $800 from his family and founded the Detroit-based record company that in less than a decade was to become the largest Black-owned business in the United States. It also became one of the most productive and influential producers of popular music anywhere in the world. The Story of Motown is the story of Berry Gordy's triumph over powerful, established financial interests, entrenched popular taste, bigotry, and racism.

Historia
In 1960, Ishmael Reed, then an aspiring young writer, interviewed Malcolm X for a local radio station in Buffalo, and the encounter cost Reed his job and changed his life. In Malcolm and Me, Reed, the author of such classic novels as Mumbo Jumbo and the winner of a MacArthur “Genius” Fellowship, reveals a side of Malcolm X the public has never seen before, and explores how the civil rights firebrand influenced his own views on working and living and speaking out, and left a mark on generations of artists and activists.

Not worth the money

The title totally misrepresent what the book is about. this man seems to be giving basically his biography with snippets of how he accidentally runs into Malcolm X. here and there if you want to know about this man’s life then byvall m ans go for it. but if you want to learn about Malcolm X this is not the book to buy

Historia
If any artist could brag about his contribution to the pop culture canon, it’s Smokey Robinson. His career is filled with so many “he was there” moments it’s a wonder he doesn’t recall them with the swagger of a conquering hero: songwriting and singing as a teenager in Detroit; co-founding Motown Records with Berry Gordy; creating 26 Top 40 hits with his group The Miracles; helping to spark racial integration of popular music in the 1960s; discovering hitmakers like Diana Ross and the Supremes; penning tunes for a jaw-droppingly diverse group of artists.

Well, i love Motown, i love Smokey, Berry. I could not imagine how Smokey could tell
His story on an hour. I deleted and re-downloaded this because i mean seriously this man alone with Berry Gordy changed the face of music.
The ups the downs the ins and outs. I hate to admit i was a bit disappointed how can this be done in a little over am hour.
I was ok but i guess i was expecting something more like an autobiography.
Sorry Smokey…still love ya!

Historia
April 16th, the year is 1963. Birmingham, Alabama, has had a spring of nonviolent protests known as the Birmingham Campaign, seeking to draw attention to the segregation against Blacks by the city government and downtown retailers. The organizers longed to create a nonviolent tension so severe that the powers that be would be forced to address the rampant racism head on. Recently arrested was Martin Luther King, Jr.... It is there in that jail cell that he writes this letter; on the margins of a newspaper he pens this defense of nonviolence against segregation.

Sad story if a very gifted man
Revisado: 09-30-21
If you are a Luther fan by all means this is worth the purchase it does shed some light on his struggles with his sexuality and his underlying struggles with his religion as it relates to his sexuality how sad for such a man with such talent to never have the courage to come out and be who he was in spite of his sexuality what a sad commentary for the world at that time
