Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Excellence
Revisado: 05-21-23
A real display of excellence, both in terms of the story-craft by Weir, and the absurdly adept storytelling by Porter. One of my favorite audiobooks I’ve listened to.

Historia
The story begins in 1962. On a rocky patch of the sun-drenched Italian coastline, a young innkeeper, chest-deep in daydreams, looks out over the incandescent waters of the Ligurian Sea and spies an apparition: a tall, thin woman, a vision in white, approaching him on a boat. She is an actress, he soon learns, an American starlet, and she is dying. And the story begins again today, half a world away, when an elderly Italian man shows up on a movie studio's back lot - searching for the mysterious woman he last saw at his hotel decades earlier.

Hits right where it hurts
Revisado: 03-02-23
Maybe I’m just at the “right” point in life, but this book really did it for me on every level. The struggle of love and loss, choices upon choices that make up a life. All of it, supremely beautiful and touching.
Ballerini’s performance was masterful, as usual, and felt like it just fit the story at every level.

Historia
Allison Hong is not your typical 15-year-old Taiwanese girl. Unwilling to bend to the conditioning of her Chinese culture, which demands that women submit to men’s will, she disobeys her father’s demand to stay in their faith tradition, Buddhism, and instead joins the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Then, six years later, she drops out of college to serve a mission—a decision for which her father disowns her.

Engaging story, pitch-perfect narration
Revisado: 01-18-23
An in-depth look at one woman's trial-filled journey from a tough upbringing in Taiwan, to what often seems like an even tougher situation immigrating to the U.S. via marriage to an immature man who, initially, represents the woman's chosen faith path in life.
Although the Taiwanese settings, customs, and overall cultural milieu may seem foreign to many a Western listener, the relatability of the tale should keep you engaged. If you're interested in learning how to understand and navigate certain foundational East-West cultural differences, this memoir is a great way to see some of the challenges in action.
Kathleen Li's narration really captures the spirit of the story. Very impressive!

Serendipity
Revisado: 09-22-22
Scottoline’s storytelling is punchy, engaging, and poignant.
Ballerini’s performance is as enthralling as it gets… he even makes the bad guys people you’d like to know. A masterclass in narration.
Very, very good story. A great listen.

An experience like no other
Revisado: 07-10-22
What else can I say? Denton’s singular imagination weaves the rarity of a truly unique tale. The storytelling is a kind of alchemy, turning gunmetal and quicksilver into alien metal with a golden sheen.
Pirhalla’a performance is spot-on and elevates the the entire thing (for this forum) to an unforgettable, spellbinding experience.
Can’t wait for what comes next.

Dave Cartwright has had enough. Beautiful
Revisado: 02-21-22
Ballerini’s performance is wondrous, and the story is achingly beautiful. “The hard truth was that no one was quite as resilient as a child, and no one paid a higher price”
I’m sure I got the quote slightly wrong, but I believe that’s the gist. Just one of many from this book that will stay with me.
