Inanimate objects and rodents as people? Meh!

Inanimate objects and rodents as people? Meh! Sex between a robot and a cat? Why?? That train happens to be a living, biological, sentient, multi car passenger train that flies and plays video games. Weird!
This book was a recommendation via an interview with the author on an NPR Podcast I subscribe to. It was made to sound like a fresh angle on Climate change and mitigation from elements of the environment like the soil and trees and animals that are able to communicate their wishes needs and general health to the people in charge of the environment. This allowed them to maintain balance in the ecosystem...or at least to know that when there is lack of balance, that nobody could claim they didn't know. However, this story took a turn for the fantastical with the introduction of naked mole rats as engineers and scientists and intelligent earthworms, and actually living breathing intelligent passenger trains. If this were about a struggle between different bioengineered humanoid species on the needs and expectations of the populations vs the health of the ecosystem, kind of what I was led to believe this would be, it would have been a fascinating angle to take. As it is, I finished the book with an image of an adult version of Thomas the Tank Engine.

Little over the top, but still good

This story had a good premise and was entertaining to read. Some of the descriptions of thought processes evoked a bit of and eye roll at times due to the excruciating detail, but in the end, it worked.

Was this a book on religion? I don't get it.

I never did figure out what this story was about. It's like a robot being a companion for a child, but the robot worships the sun and triggers some miracle healing when the child gets sick due to some genetic manipulation. It's all faith and miracles and robots with religion. Waste of my time.

Disappointing!

Struggled to finish this. Because it was Patterson, I kept listening thinking it would turn a corner at some point, but it never did. I regret wasting the time listening to this. At least it was a relatively short story.

Story was ok. Maybe just not my thing. Part of it might have been the translation. Because all the names were foreign, I had trouble remembering who was who. And there were so many of them, it was just hard to track with what was going on.

Was just ok. Glad I didn't pay for it.

Was interesting having the main protagonist as the killer, but it was very clunky. Lots of superfluous information, character development was lacking. Just made it hard to track with the story. Almost didn't finish multiple times, and the ending was disappointing.

Good plot. Characters not quite compelling.

this was a decent story and flowed well. the characters were developed okay, but it felt like every relationship was a gay or lesbian relationship. that's not a problem, but it was so prominent throughout the story, it felt like it was almost the point of the book. it just felt forced.
