Historia
Women can be heroes. When twenty-year-old nursing student Frances “Frankie” McGrath hears these words, it is a revelation. Raised in the sun-drenched, idyllic world of Southern California and sheltered by her conservative parents, she has always prided herself on doing the right thing. But in 1965, the world is changing, and she suddenly dares to imagine a different future for herself. When her brother ships out to serve in Vietnam, she joins the Army Nurse Corps and follows his path.

Touching and Gritty and Real
Revisado: 12-05-24
As a nurse and woman, I loved this book. I immediately connected with Frankie, even though I would not have made the same choice that she made. Nurses have a deep understanding of each other, especially those of us that trained in the sixties and seventies. IRL I am 10 years younger than Frankie and I remember the Vietnam War years very well. The returning veterans were treated terribly and women like Frankie had no voice. This book brought me to tears more than once and I will be thinking about it for many days to come. If you are a caring person, a woman, a nurse, a war veteran… you will be changed by this book.

Historia
In December 1960, Crystal Singer, her boyfriend Rick, and three other MIT grad students take a cross-country road trip from Boston to Arizona to paint a message in the desert. Mars has been silent for thirty years, since the last time Earth solved one of the mathematical proofs the Martian civilization carved onto its surface. The latest proof, which seems to assert contradictory truths about distance, has resisted human understanding for decades. Crystal thinks she’s solved it, and Rick is intent on putting her answer to the test.

Laura takes her first train ride as she, her sisters, and their mother come out to live with Pa on the shores of Silver Lake. Love the story, not the singing
Revisado: 09-12-20
All of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s stories are wonderful and remind me of when I was a young girl and read the books until they fell apart. I’m sorry to be judgmental, but Cherry Jones should stick to acting and narrating, and skip the singing. She sings all of the songs in the books, and I found myself skipping ahead. Otherwise, nicely done!

Historia
After a murder at the monastery, Sister Eve may need a miracle if she is to prove a dear friend isn't a cold-blooded killer. Sister Eve, a motorcycle-riding nun with a natural (or is it supernatural?) gift for solving murders, returns to the enclave she once called home and quickly finds herself confronting yet another mysterious death. Someone has poisoned Dr. Kelly Middlesworth - a researcher on the life and ministry of the 17th-century's revered "Blue Nun" - and a set of irreplaceable historic documents has disappeared.

Sr. Eve is Growing as a Character
Revisado: 08-25-17
This is the third book of the Sister Eve Divine series. The first book was a little hard to get into and I almost put it down, but plowed through and enjoyed it enough to go on to books two and three.
We find Sr. Eve still trying to make a decision about her future (which sounds rather implausible- I don't believe the Benedictines would let a nun take multiple leaves of absence). This story takes her to the monastery that has been her home for twenty years. The keynote speaker for a conference on The Blue Nun has been murdered and of course Eve has to solve the crime.
The story is good; however there are loose ends and odd plot devices. I would have given it 3.5 stars if I could have. There are rabbit trails about the Catholic Church and the improbable story of a co-ed monastery. I grew up as a Catholic and have never heard of a co-ed monastery with a male abbot overseeing the spiritual direction of women. And Hilary Huber's narration is so slow that I had to play the narrative at 1.25 speed.
I will read a fourth book, if one is written, but if Eve hasn't made a final decision by the end of the fourth book, I will not read a fifth.

Narrators ruin it for me
Revisado: 01-20-17
I realize that this a totally biased opinion, but the narration bothered me so much that I decided to read the printed book instead. The narrators for the previous books were iffy at best but the two on this book (whom I have liked on other books) mangle attempts at accents. I can't separate that from the story itself.
The story is good and I enjoyed the read. As always, I had to read it in nearly one sitting. I'm sorry to see the series end but of course it had to conclude.

Historia
After a series of high-profile cases at my cyberintelligence firm, I was looking forward to a simple job. All I had to do was personally deliver a revolutionary microchip to a manufacturing plant in Indonesia. Easy, right? Wrong. Someone else wants the design and is willing to kill to get it. A failed hijacking attempt lands me; my best friend, Basia; and our boss, Finn, in the middle of the jungle.

Revisado: 07-25-16
As a misunderstood techie myself, I have enjoyed watching Lexi Carmichael exceed her original programming! In this book we see her fight to stay alive, in part by relying on the one thing she didn't have until recently- relationships. Slash, too, continues to become more human as he and Lexi explore what love and relationship mean. I wish these people were real!

The desert planet Arrakis, called Dune, has been destroyed. Now, the Bene Gesserit, heirs to Dune's power, have colonized a green world—and are tuning it into a desert, mile by scorched mile. Chapterhouse Dune is the last book Frank Herbert wrote before his death: A stunning climax to the epic Dune legend that will live on forever.

Did the narrators talk to each other?
Revisado: 07-01-14
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
The book would only make sense to someone who has read the other books in the series.
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
The narrators used different accents for some of the characters; for example, one narrator gave Murbella a generic Eastern European accent, while the others used their own accents. The character Scytale was pronounced as "Skytale" by one narrator and "Sigh-tale" by another. It was distracting.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Too long.
Any additional comments?
I love all of the Dune books.

Love the story, not the narration
Revisado: 01-30-13
What made the experience of listening to Iced the most enjoyable?
The female narrator is very hard to understand. The pitch of her voice varies a lot, forcing me to turn up the volume to hear the lower pitches. This makes the overall listening experience less than acceptable. Her use of an Irish accent also varies.
