Historia
Let's face it. Church isn't working. We hear sermons about the abundant life Jesus promised, but how many of us are actually living it? How many of our churches are thriving? How many people in our congregations are experiencing God's blessings? Maybe it's time to call it quits. Quit church? Well, not exactly. Drawing from his experience coaching hundreds of churches toward true growth, Chris Sonksen calls on us to quit our casual, cultural commitment to church as we know it....

Some good nuggets but…
Revisado: 07-21-24
Weak exegesis, borderline prosperity gospel and too focused on middle class American lifestyle overshadow the few good nuggets in this book.
There are other books that cover this material with better doctrine and a more worldwide Kingdom perspective that is applicable to a wider cultural mix

Historia
At the close of World War II, a shell-shocked solider, Jan Jovic, was forced to inflict a game of life and death on a peaceful Bosnian community. In a few short hours, this young man was confronted by more love - and hate - than most experience in a lifetime. Years later, Jan has become a world-renowned writer with widespread influence in the United States, his past buried deep in his memory. Until at the most inopportune time, the game Jan witnessed comes back to haunt him...and unwittingly leads him to a beautiful but broken woman caught in an underworld of crime.

Good but redundant
Revisado: 06-26-24
Generally good modernization of Hosea but the author tends to DRAG out many of his books (including this one) and lose salient threads that were started. He’s become a better writer since this book but even so, this one could be 30% shorter without losing any major themes

Performance was very good
Revisado: 06-20-24
Ted needed to do more research on banking and technology. Whilst written in 1999, he still had a bunch of ludicrous activities that showed his lack of knowledge of software engineering and finance. The spiritual parables were very good however

Historia
From the moment He arrived on the scene, Jesus posed a threat to the unjust, a threat to the oppressors, and a threat to every semblance of authority wielded by the kingdom of darkness. He invaded the world with love for the forgotten, hope for the hopeless, and freedom for the bound. His ideas were disruptive, subversive, and scandalous to the world around Him.

Historia
In Evicted, Princeton sociologist and MacArthur “Genius” Matthew Desmond follows eight families in Milwaukee as they each struggle to keep a roof over their heads. Hailed as “wrenching and revelatory” (The Nation), “vivid and unsettling” (New York Review of Books), Evicted transforms our understanding of poverty and economic exploitation while providing fresh ideas for solving one of twenty-first-century America’s most devastating problems. Its unforgettable scenes of hope and loss remind us of the centrality of home, without which nothing else is possible.

Great Book
Revisado: 10-29-23
Awesome research conducted to tell the real life stories of those impacted by the systematic practices that lead to homelessness, housing instability, adverse events effecting children and families. I learned a lot and hope to make a difference based on my new understanding.

At a time in which some within the African American community are questioning the place of the Christian faith in the struggle for justice, New Testament scholar McCaulley argues that reading Scripture from the perspective of Black church tradition is invaluable for connecting with a rich faith history and addressing the urgent issues of our times.

Generally good presentation. Powerful content
Revisado: 08-24-21
struggled with the first half. I appreciated the scripture references but at times the author spent more energy unpacking those than setting an overarching narrative that was *supported* by the scripture.
second half was much more consumable and the final 2 chapters were worth the price of the book.
NB: I purchased the audio book. The authors narration is mediocre and detracted from the listening experience. For his next book he needs to use a professional reader

Author Jemar Tisby reveals the obvious - and the far more subtle - ways the American church has compromised what the Bible teaches about human dignity and equality.

Enlightening, action motivating for transformation
Revisado: 08-22-21
This historical depiction of racism in the US and the complicity of the Christian church is eye opening. Is a must read in all seminary schools and should be required. The information and call to action is applicable for all in leadership roles across diverse sectors of faith-based organizations and secular organizations alike.

Historia
Have you ever wondered "Why did I do that?" or "Why can't I just control my behavior?" Others may judge our reactions and think, "What's wrong with that person?" When questioning our emotions, it's easy to place the blame on ourselves; holding ourselves and those around us to an impossible standard. It's time we started asking a different question. Through deeply personal conversations, Oprah Winfrey and renowned brain and trauma expert Dr. Bruce Perry offer a groundbreaking and profound shift from asking “What’s wrong with you?” to “What happened to you?”
