Historia
A convict is brutally murdered in his locked cell deep in the heart of Scotland’s most infamous prison. Sleeping in a cell across the floor lies John Rebus, the equally notorious detective. Stripped of his badge and estranged from his police family, he is now fighting for his own life—protected by an old nemesis but always one wrong move away from the shank. As new allies and old enemies circle, and the days and nights bleed into each other, even this legendary figure struggles to keep his head.

I couldn’t understand the narrator
Revisado: 04-16-25
As a US listener from Pennsylvania, I couldn’t understand much of what the narrator said, particularly when he was doing characters’ voices. I gave up after a few chapters. It seemed like an intriguing book and I’m sure the narrator was great for people used to Scottish accents, but I had no clue what the heck he was saying.

Enjoyed... Except for One Thing. Includes Spoiler
Revisado: 04-12-25
This was a fun book. Engaging heroine, interesting friends. However, I think it is icky to have more than one boyfriend at once and have them all okay with each other. Not a fan of polyamory. Yuck.

Historia
The excursion was a mess. Sal's trust in his team is at rock bottom from the actions of another in the final fight. He now needs to enter the Tower and fight demons with the same person who betrayed him. As if that wasn't enough, he's pretty sure the former Super-Rookie and wonder kid on his team is actually a ticking time bomb, just waiting to explode.

Great story
Revisado: 02-17-25
I had the release of the third audiobook in this series marked on my calendar and re-listened to the prior two just before the release. I love this story, and the main character, and the difficulties he encounters and overcomes. Looking forward to more!

Everything was perfect until he lost one case—the case where he also lost his brother. So Finch retired. From magic. From PI work. From everything. Bree Blackstone, a twelve-year-old witch, doesn’t know or care about any of that except Finch’s reputation. In the middle of the night, she bangs on Finch’s door. Her mother has been murdered, and now the assassin is after Bree as well.

Enjoyed the Characters and the Story
Revisado: 12-31-24
I was quite amused by the grumpy sad Warlock detective, Adair Finch. I loved the way he repeated a day .... a lot... to find the answers to questions and find the bad guys. Initially the child annoyed me but I came to really like her part in the story. My favorite character -- after Adair -- was the Trickster Spirit. A fun story.

Historia
On a serene night in 1953, Sally Mason, a dedicated wife and mother of two, drives a twisting road on her way home from night school. Suddenly, a mysterious bluish-white light descends over the road. Terrified, Sally slams on the brakes. After a flash of bright light nearly blinds her, she passes out, awakening to the persistent knock of a police officer on her car window. When she sees the officer and remembers her frightening experience, she screams and faints, and is rushed to the hospital.

Just not able to empathize with the main character, who seemed doll-like rather than real. Got kind of bored with the story.

Historia
Jai lives as a royal hostage in the Sabine Court—ever since his father Rohan, leader of the Steppefolk, led a failed rebellion and was executed by the very emperor Jai now serves. When the emperor’s son and heir is betrothed to Princess Erica of the neighboring Dansk Kingdom, she brings with her a dowry: dragons. Endemic to the northern nation, these powerful beasts come in several forms, but mystery surrounds them.

Too much torture and pain
Revisado: 11-24-24
In the realm of escapist fantasies, I enjoy a book much more when there is an occasional triumph. While at the end of the book there is one major success, the main character is repeatedly beaten, tortured, poisoned, imprisoned, or suffers terrible agony to progress in his magic. I gave the narrator high marks because he approached each agony-session with the same enthusiasm and drama, while I was starting to get bored with it all. Where is the satisfaction of triumphing over all of this agony? I don't think I'll choose this author again: I like my main characters to be more successful instead of just tortured over and over again.

Historia
Jesse is having the worst year. First a race of homicidal (but very polite) aliens invaded Earth, killing pretty much everyone and enslaving the few people left behind, including Jesse; his best friend, Michael; his sort-of girlfriend, Lauren; and the girl of his dreams, Catlin. Then he and the other survivors discovered that they had some sort of latent telepathic abilities that made them dangerous to the aliens, so their only hope for survival was to run away. But not everyone made it out alive.

Alien Invasion + Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure
Revisado: 11-22-24
This book, written from the perspective of a young man with unexpected powers, was a fun adventure. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The narrator seemed perfect for this good-hearted, occasionally clueless young man. Kind of a wild romp. I enjoyed both books.

Historia
Salvatore's worst nightmare is taking on a demon, but if he wants to stay at Quest Academy, how will he prove to himself and everyone else that he can succeed? He's going to have to take on an entire floor of a demonic tower before the first semester comes to a close. That's the least of Sal's problems as he navigates through his first student mission away from the school. Sal is more comfortable at the crafting table, but he needs to survive in a reclaimed zone outside of the academy with the worst team of misfits you could possibly imagine.

Humans have been pushed to the brink of extinction by an ever-evolving demonic threat. Portals are opening faster than ever, Towers are bursting into the skies, and Dungeons are being mined below the last safe havens of society. The demons are winning. Quest Academy stands defiantly against them as a place to train the next generation of Heroes. The Guild Association is holding the line but is in dire need of new blood and the powerful abilities they could bring to the battlefront. To be the saviors that humanity needs, they need to surpass the limits of those that came before them.

Great Fun to Listen to
Revisado: 10-19-24
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I like the lead character and enjoyed the many challenges he faced. Several reviewers commented that they didn't like how he succeeded at just about everything. Frankly, that was the best part of the book to me! Who doesn't want to face challenges and successfully overcome them? It made for a very enjoyable read.

Herc Beal knows who he's named after—a mythical hero—but he's no superhero. He's the smallest kid in his class. So when his homeroom teacher at his new middle school gives him the assignment of duplicating the mythical Hercules's amazing feats in real life, he's skeptical. After all, there are no Nemean Lions on Cape Cod—and not a single Hydra in sight.

Great Book
Revisado: 10-17-24
I loved this book, pure and simple. I loved the narrator -- who first seemed too adult for the reader of the main character, and then became just perfect. I loved the Labors that Hercules Beal was assigned and how they helped him to grow as a human being through the book, even when life dealt him more difficulties. I cried several times, both with sadness and joy through the book, and I'm not a crier. This is a wonderful book, and I'm recommending it to people of all ages.
