Historia
The Tower of Babel is the greatest marvel in the world. Immense as a mountain, the ancient Tower holds unnumbered ringdoms, warring and peaceful, stacked one on the other like the layers of a cake. It is a world of geniuses and tyrants, of airships and steam engines, of unusual animals and mysterious machines. Soon after arriving for his honeymoon at the Tower, the mild-mannered headmaster of a small village school, Thomas Senlin, gets separated from his wife, Marya, in the overwhelming swarm of tourists, residents, and miscreants.

Revisado: 04-21-17
Good story as usual from Timothy Zahn, along with solid narration from Marc Thompson.
Unfortunately the book is briefly crippled in a few spots by whoever decided to make some of the aliens sounds as annoying as possible.
I would not have been surprised to find my ears bleeding after those parts, whoever did that, please take note, and do not let this happen again.

Historia
Our universe is ruled by physics, and faster-than-light travel is not possible - until the discovery of The Flow, an extradimensional field we can access at certain points in space-time that transports us to other worlds, around other stars. Humanity flows away from Earth, into space, and in time forgets our home world and creates a new empire, the Interdependency, whose ethos requires that no one human outpost can survive without the others. It's a hedge against interstellar war - and a system of control for the rulers of the empire.

A great fun ride through the wild
Revisado: 03-30-17
The pacing in this book is pretty great, doesn't really drag at any point.
The ability for its main characters to survive anything is a bit of a stretch, but enjoyable nonetheless.
There are several laugh out loud moments, and the narration is excellent.
you wont find a lot of depth or weight in most of the story, but as long as you don't expect that, I think you will enjoy this book.

my only request for the author would be to reduce or eliminate the full stats sections from the audiobook version.

*Minor spoilers follow*
In the first book I enjoyed the 1st half, and hated the second.
In this book I hated the 1st half, and liked the 2nd half better.
Unfortunately the author spent so much time on seemingly filler content that did nothing but annoy me as a reader, and did not do much to progress the plot/story.
It saddens me that the majority of the female characters are basically portrayed as shallow, hot headed, and dim witted. there are many many situations where the same reactions are given by the female characters despite having chances to learn, and grow out of these reactions.
The main character is essentially written as an all powerful badass, which is cool don't get me wrong, but the biggest perceived event of this book turns out to be a total letdown as it basically doesn't take place (the kings tournament) and I never once even for a moment was led to believe that he was in any danger whatsoever.
In fact the main character does not have a problem with any single situation presented in this book.
There are people chasing him. no problem he is a master of stealth.
There are people dueling him. no problem he is a master duelist.
There are people poisoned. no problem he is a master healer.
There are powerful mages. surely since we are repeatedly beaten over the head with the fact that the main character is not a mage, and possesses no mage ability's he will have trouble if a mage decides to attack him. unfortunately wrong again. their spells literally have no effect on him whatsoever.
In addition many of the things that made the 1st half of the 1st book enjoyable were the main characters awkward notions of normal social interactions, such as having friends.
This book gets rid of any similar humor stemming from such encounters.
I am not saying this book is terrible, I have listened to many that are worse, and the narration by Nick Podehl is fantastic as always.
If you listened to the 1st book and enjoyed it, just be wary of this one as the plot is very slow to progress, and there is only a small amount of actual action in this book. humor is also greatly negated, and we are not given any of the humorous incidents or mental thoughts of the 1st book.
To the author if you read this, I am by no means insulting you or your book, these are just my honest thoughts on what I didn't like about this book, and I offer this review as constructive criticism, please accept it for what it is, and do not be discouraged.
I hope that you will take some of this into account while you are writing the third book.
