Historia
Thomas Paine's The Age of Reason; Being an Investigation of True and Fabulous Theology, published in three parts from 1794, was a best seller in America, where it caused a short-lived deistic revival. Promoting a creator-God while advocating reason in the place of revelation, Paine’s controversial pamphlet caused his native British audience, fearing the results of the French Revolution, to receive it with more hostility than their American counterparts.

Historia
From an eminent scholar of the American South, the first full-scale biography of Thomas Jefferson since 1970. Not since Merrill Peterson's Thomas Jefferson and the New Nation has a scholar attempted to write a comprehensive biography of the most complex Founding Father. In Jefferson, John B. Boles plumbs every facet of Thomas Jefferson's life, all while situating him amid the sweeping upheaval of his times. We meet Jefferson the politician and political thinker - as well as Jefferson the architect, scientist, bibliophile, paleontologist, musician, and gourmet.

In Depth Scholarship
Revisado: 12-30-23
Put off at first, as some declared conclusions seemed to be put forth as absolute fact. For example: I admit there is a prejudice against the idea of a relationship with the slave, Miss Hemmings. Still, there is no absolute proof of this. Perhaps he had this affair; perhaps it is more likely that he did. A historian should hesitate calling it an absolute fact. I have heard other theories, not mentioned by the author. And I have more appreciation for the nuance of Jefferson's ideas on slavery than the author.
All things considered, this is still one of the best written and researched books on history-biography I have read. I have to acknowledge that my experience in history is limited. I cannot imagine anyone interested in American history and Jefferson not finding this a satisfactory read or listen. The audio was very well done.

Historia
Although T. E. Lawrence, commonly known as "Lawrence of Arabia’, died in 1935, the story of his life has captured the imagination of succeeding generations. Seven Pillars of Wisdom is a monumental work in which he chronicles his role in leading the Arab Revolt against the Turks during the First World War. A reluctant leader, and wracked by guilt at the duplicity of the British, Lawrence nevertheless threw himself into his role, suffering the blistering desert conditions and masterminding military campaigns which culminated in the triumphant march of the Arabs into Damascus.
