Historia
When Harriet Vane attends her Oxford reunion, known as the 'Gaudy', the prim academic setting is haunted by a rash of bizarre pranks: scrawled obscenities, burnt effigies and poison-pen letters - including one that says, 'Ask your boyfriend with the title if he likes arsenic in his soup.' Some of the notes threaten murder, and one of them involves a long Latin quotation, which makes Harriet suspect that the perpetrator is probably a member of the Senior Common Room. But which of the apparently rational, respectable dons could be committing such crazed acts?

Abridged and Disappointing

Very much abridged! So disappointing.
Revisado: 07-28-24
This is so choppy it’s hard to follow. It’s often very difficult to know which character is speaking. I much prefer the unabridged reading of the novel, which I thought was what I was buying. I should have read the details better than I did. I like the original story, so I gave this 4 stars. But this abridged “dramatization” isn’t remotely as good.

Severely abridged and very dull.
Revisado: 01-10-24
This reading and review are only for the audiobook. Be warned, this audiobook is a poor adaptation of the book. It’s severely and choppily abridged, so you only get about a fourth of the material that’s in the actual book. It’s also very dull to listen to. Until a full, unabridged recording is available, I recommend skipping the audio version and reading the printed book.

One of the foremost achievements in Western literature, Homer's Iliad tells the story of the darkest episode in the Trojan War. At its center is Achilles, the greatest warrior-champion of the Greeks, and his refusal to fight after being humiliated by his leader, Agamemnon.

Lattimore’s translation beats this one!
Revisado: 05-17-22
The rhyming scheme make this tamarin very dull to listen to, often putting me to sleep. This translation also made it much harder to follow the storyline. I much prefer Lattimore’s translation, which is prose (not poetry) and yet still has the interesting cadence similar to Homer’s original Greek epic.

Great Sorry/Poor Recording
Revisado: 02-24-22
This is a WONDERFUL, classic story! It’s beautiful, entertaining, unpredictable, and even educational. But the recording isn’t very good. The reader’s performance is so-so, but she doesn’t even attempt speaking in different voices, much less the various accents of the characters. The sound quality isn’t professional, and there are other voices and noises heard in the background, as if the narrator was recording at home with other people and maybe a TV playing in another room. It’s quiet but obvious and detracted from the lively story.
