Well thought out time travel whodunit!

Engaging characters. Didn't get bogged down with unnecessary "mechanics" so the story kept a lively pace.

Historia
The arrival of vast, alien, inhuman intelligences reshaped the landscape for human affairs across the world, and the United Kingdom is no exception. Things have changed in Britain since the dread elder god Nyarlathotep ascended to the rank of prime minister. In America, a thousand-mile-wide storm system has blanketed the Midwest, and the president is nowhere to be found. The government has been infiltrated by the shadowy Black Chamber, and the Pentagon and NASA have been refocused on the problem of summoning Cthulhu.

I love Alastair Reynolds, but...
Revisado: 08-15-12
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
This book was interesting, but didn't engender excitement. I read The Prefect, and I am currently reading Chasm City. Both of these are superb.
All three of these have disparate story lines which tie in together as the book progresses
Would you be willing to try another book from Alastair Reynolds? Why or why not?
I read the Prefect first. Amazing story, great plot, dynamic individuals. I love it!
I read Revelation Space second... not so much.
However, I'm reading Chasm City which is again superb!
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
I think John Lee didn't put quite enough joy or excitement into this book. He is absolutely amazing in the two other Reynolds' books however!

Pedantic
Revisado: 08-15-12
What would have made Existence better?
I lost interest. I kept waiting for something to happen so I kept listening. After 2/3 or so of the way through Part 1, I gave up. The writing was a pedantic drone describing society. The narrators weren't able to give it any life either. They just plodded along with a plot that plodded along.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
The primary group of character, who are much more interesting, made an appearance, but that's about it.
What three words best describe Luke Daniels’s performance?
Luke Daniels is an inspired narrator; however, he wasn't given a whole lot to work with.

He also has a new hope, that by using his fearsome talents in the service of something good, he might atone for all the lives he has already taken.

Not the book in the series in which to start
Revisado: 06-27-12
What did you like best about Killing Rain? What did you like least?
I bought this because I thought John Rain is supposed to be the perfect "assassin" The first thing he does is screw up the hit. Consequences are minor, and his partner just shrugs his shoulders. The rest of the book describes how indelibly covert, stealthy, in control, and generally awesome he is.

An OK story
Revisado: 06-27-12
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
The plot jumps around in a meaningless manner - I think to make sure that ALL the characters we know of in the 'Victorian' age, famous or infamous, are addressed (of course into format). Too cumbersome.

Historia
First, there's the media frenzy over the “Hollow Man,” a gutless corpse found on the beach. And yet people think it’s perfectly normal to find dead sharks in the middle of downtown boulevards - or to spot black mushroom clouds behind the airport. Then there are the roving bands of carjackers who suddenly find themselves inconvenienced. Not to mention people lurking outside sex-addiction meetings. Could this be the work of Serge, that eccentric trivialista and one-man vigilante? And why is he extensively photographing foreign consulates right before the critically important Summit of the Americas?

I grinned till it hurt!
Revisado: 04-22-12
Would you listen to Pineapple Grenade again? Why?
Yes. Though some are better than others, I love all the Serge books. This is one of the best. I think in part because I recently moved to Miami Beach so I'm familiar with the places Serge, et al get into trouble.
What about Oliver Wyman’s performance did you like?
Oliver Wyman has much improved from his earlier "Serge" readings. I love his voice here.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes.
Any additional comments?
SEMI-SPOILER: There is a sad part at the end that I wish could have been handled differently. It made an otherwise grand story less... um... grand.

The Angels... You gotta love them!
Revisado: 04-22-12
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I purchased this book with great trepidation. How could "The Doctor" work as a novel? But it did. Of course, its best to know the characters in seeing them on TV.
What did you like best about this story?
Don't Blink
What about Clare Corbett’s performance did you like?
She is absolutely spot on with the characters - each had a voice AND a separate accent.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes.

Why??!!
Revisado: 04-22-12
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
RECOMMEND??? ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! First, I rarely look at the extremes of reviews. Especially the "Ones" because I believe they are too severe. When I started listening, I thought the pace of the narration was set at 2X. It was not. So I set it at 1/2X. Then it DRONED, but at least I could follow the storyline better. But, as I said, it droned and I finally had to set it back to normal speed or fall asleep. The narrator speaks with NO PUNCTUATION, NO CHANGE OF INTONATION, and NO CHANGE IN CHARACTER VOICE. The story -may- be good, but it is so awful to listen to that I don't care about the story anymore. I've quit listening to the book.
What did you like best about this story?
Nothing. I had a hard time caring because the narration is so awful.
Which character – as performed by Colby David Elliott – was your favorite?
None of them. I could not tell the difference between one character and another because their was no change of "voice" by the narrator.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Don't See Me!
Any additional comments?
I wish I could get my credit back.
