Every word is brilliant: plot, thematic act, characters and issues, the ubiquitous of the delicate issues and emotions for children in abusive situations..

But it lacks the grip of a good tense action story… totally. It feels as if one is just going through the ropes as the author painstakingly establishes details.

Historia
From 1783, when German immigrant John Jacob Astor first arrived in the United States, until 2009, when Brooke Astor’s son, Anthony Marshall, was convicted of defrauding his elderly mother, the Astor name occupied a unique place in American society. The family fortune, first made by a beaver trapping business that grew into an empire, was then amplified by holdings in Manhattan real estate. Over the ensuing generations, Astors ruled Gilded Age New York society and inserted themselves into political and cultural life, but also suffered the most famous loss on the Titanic.

Shocking beginning but so much more could have been examined.
Revisado: 09-28-23
One of the most fascinating aspects of the Astor dynasty was that of John Jacob Astor going down ( heroically) on the Titanic- bidding farewell to his young, pregnant bride. Vincent was the first son, but the next son was also a full Astor— and because his father had no idea of his impending death, there was no adequate will in place. This is a dramatic part of the story, practicably bypassed!
Brooke Astor was not an Astor as most people seem to think. As far as I know, Jackie Astor Drexel is the last.

Historia
Viktor Orlov had a longstanding appointment with death. Once Russia’s richest man, he now resides in splendid exile in London, where he has waged a tireless crusade against the authoritarian kleptocrats who have seized control of the Kremlin. His mansion in Chelsea’s exclusive Cheyne Walk is one of the most heavily protected private dwellings in London. Yet somehow, on a rainy summer evening, in the midst of a global pandemic, Russia’s vengeful president finally manages to cross Orlov’s name off his kill list.

Revisado: 09-23-23
Aren’t we subjected to blatant political biases daily in every form of journalism, social media, and ranting political forces? So sick of being TOLD especially in a work of fiction! Boring and way too much. Don’t waste your time.

The most brilliant book

Few people realize not only the depths of what it means to experience human emotions, suffering, bullying, longing, but how adroitly Jane Austin writes brilliant comedy. My favorite Austin novel.
