Favorite Listen!
Revisado: 06-19-19
Listening to "Ma, Sylvie and Amy" tell their engrossing story brought another angle to "Searching for Sylvie Lee". Hearing them speak made the characters and their conflicts seem real. I loved that the story took place in so many places (the Netherlands! Vienna! NYC!) with so many twists and turns that I had to listen even when not driving my car!
One of my favorite listens!

Annoying!
Revisado: 02-28-19
All of these "Sincerely X" episodes have the same or similar introductions, in the same voice. The actual stories include slow music, reminding me of the podcasts searching for someone, and are not all that earth shattering. Waste of time.

Dark and Addictive!
Revisado: 12-10-18
All in all, a great listen! I've just started getting into psychological thrillers and this one kept me on the edge of my seat. Great story and character development. Well written. I especially loved the ending and was surprised to see that the author originally had an alternate one (spoilers - https://blog.whsmith.co.uk/rjsp18-lisa-jewell-ending-envisaged-gone-warning-contains-spoilers/ ). PLUS the narrator did such a great job with her Irish accent, I thought there was another one. Check this out!

Loved Hearing About Latest Scientific Studies!
Revisado: 11-29-18
This book is based on a Stanford University course that describes scientific research on self-control and ways to use it to help your own. I especially liked hearing the case studies. It covers all kinds of situations where willpower will help you - I chose it hoping it would help me improve my exercise willpower and it had many techniques that I'm going to try!
As an aside, the narration was fine, but considering that a woman teaches this course and wrote the book, it would have been nice if a woman read it as well!

Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Barbara Kingsolver, Not!
Revisado: 10-10-18
I chose this book based on all the rave reviews comparing it to the work of Barbara Kingsolver, but it was not to be. Interesting plot, but the storyline was weak...somewhere between a young adult and a romance novel. The nature references were interesting, but not written in the same caliber as Barbara Kingsolver's. Since I guessed the "mystery" as soon as it came to light, it was hard to listen to the last part of the book - the only reason I did so was because of the excellent narration!

I loved hearing about their friendship's trials and tribulations with WWII and the circus surrounding everything...
But I did not like Astrid's "voice" which sounded way too happy for most of the book!

Educational and Enthralling, But...
Revisado: 04-18-17
All in all, I'd recommend this book! I loved learning about the Akha people and the mother's story was both educational and enthralling. The daughter's, not so much, and she brought the book to a close much too soon...
I listened to the Audible version and was happy there were so many readers, but the daughter's voice really grated on me.
Anyway, now that I'm finished with the book, I must find some pu'er tea!

I wanted to rate this 3-1/2 stars, but my phone app wouldn't let me.
This was a sadder story then I expected, but I enjoyed hearing about Bill, plants and their many escapades.
