Project Hail Mary was my first Weir novel. Absolutely loved it so went back and listened to The Martian. Lots of negative reviews of Wheaton’s narration in comparison to the original narrator. Not having listened to that one I thought it couldn’t be too bad. It was. Barely any attempt at different voices.

That said, the story almost makes up for it. Definitely prefer the book to the movie. I’d recommend the book though. Poor job at narrating this great story.

Wasn’t expecting how great this was. Easily makes it into my all time favorites list. This is one of those audiobooks where the narration and story work so well together it truly adds to book. Can’t say much more without ruining it. Absolutely worth the credit!!!

One of the best books I’ve listened to for awhile. Not the usual setting or genre that keeps me listening but this one did. Loved it. Story takes just the right amount of time to reel you in. Engrossing from start to finish. Narrator isn’t my favorite but did a good job with this one. Would absolutely recommend. Worth the credit and will 100% get a re-listen.

I like Jeff Guinn but was a bit disappointed. Not much new here and a lot of reliance on Kathy Schroeder’s view of events. Lots of details on the forensic evidence, a bit of a contradiction since much of that is at the heart of the controversy. Nothing seems to have changed. Koresh was a narcissistic cult leader. The ATF and FBI both failed miserably.

Originally purchased this back when the series dropped and gave it another listen after Jeff Guinn’s new book on Waco. 30 years later and both sides still tell a different story. While attempting to be objective, the inability to see Koresh for the narcissist he was speaks to just how polarizing Waco was for both sides then and now. Highly recommend. The insights of the goings on in the community before and during the siege are well worth the credit.

Listened to a book about submarine by a narrator with a lisp. This is even worse. If your going to listen, try it at 1.1x speed. Great story, tortuous narration.

Read(listened) to this prior to the TV show. Reviewed a recent listen so thought I’d finally give the Terror its due…

Yes it’s long, dark, and (yes) slow. That’s Dan Simmons though. And it’s 100% worth it.

A slow burn, incorporating a (at the time) little heard of mystery involving the disappearance of two RN ships and their crews with some supernatural terror.

The story does jump around a bit, particularly at the beginning. However it allows you to be a bit more into it as the action builds. Characters are fully fleshed out. So much so you will find yourself wikiing the majors.

Needless to say the book has done well as shown by its TV adaptation. I still say book. Have listened many times over and own a digital copy as well.

Can understand those who complain about the length. I personally couldn’t do Hyperion. Carrion Comfort was no problem so I think it depends on the story and personal preference. But please…give this a try!!!!

Also, sorry Mr. Sellwood. Excellent job. For this one, you go up there next to Scott Brick.

Best one out there on El Faro disaster

Have read, listened, and watched much about the El Faro disaster. Certainly just my opinion, but this seems this most objective study of the sinking.

The recovery of the VDR makes the story of the tragedy all the more real. And it should be noted, all the more grim.

Mr. Foy does an excellent job of laying out the facts and providing background information. This combined with the VDR element makes for an excellent explanation of the El Faro. The ship, her crew, how and what they did, and the known facts regarding her sinking. Suppositions aren’t ignored, neither are they dwelt on.

Narrator did a great job. Varied voices, tonal changes right on.

Worth the credit!

Found this one on the “suggested” list and it was a winner. Wasn’t familiar with any of Clement’s other works, or even this series, but had no problem following. Real life characters were portrayed accurately. The crazy bunker melodrama has always been historically fascinating to me and the author did a good job weaving a story from it.

Narrator was good. Wasn’t familiar with Mr. Sims either but a fine job. Plenty of variation in voices, even for the same language. This is always a tough assignment but he gets it done.

Blew threw it in 2 days at work, always a good sign for me!

Came across this one while searching for something similar to Clancy's early stuff like Red Storm Rising. Have gone on to read the following 2 novels by Jeff Edwards and wouldn't hesitate to purchase an audible version of either. Not many novels from a naval surface unit perspective. Narrator does a great job. The story moves along quickly and keeps you interested. Did find the "single combat" element a bit far fetched but was able to overlook it thanks to the entertainment value of the story. Highly recommend!!!
