Historia
The folks in Mike Erikson's small New England town would say he's just your average, everyday guy. And that's exactly how Mike likes it. Sure, the life he's chosen isn't much of a challenge to someone with his unique gifts, but he's content with his quiet and peaceful existence. That is, until an old friend presents him with an irresistible mystery, one that Mike is uniquely qualified to solve.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Fold to be better than the print version?
Haven't "read" it...the audio edition is wonderful, so it's probably better.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Fold?
The final parking lot scene.
Which character – as performed by Ray Porter – was your favorite?
Ewwww....that cheesy DARPA guy back in Washington.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
The opening chapter was too scary to listen to in the dark.
Any additional comments?
It must be hard to follow up with a second book when the first (14) is so memorable. But Cline did a great job, weaving in just enough of 14's spookiness to keep me wondering what on earth would happen next. It was never as if 14 was being repeated...but as if 14 was one of the background themes playing in the distance. If you liked that book, you'll like this one. If you haven't read 14, buy both and listen to 14 first.

No Series More Deserved to be Severely Abridged
Revisado: 10-29-14
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Speaking for the 6-book series: A pre-teenage girl stuck in 1975. The cultural anthropology, which cannot possibly be factual, would be interesting, and the sex scenes informative, if false.
What could Jean M. Auel have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
She (or a good editor) should have turned the 6-book series into one book containing the story and cutting out the incredible amount of repetitive stuff. Ahh...Ayla's about to remember a scene from her childhood with the Clan again....ahh, Jongalar is about to make love to her again....ahh, let's hear how she found and tamed Whinney, the cave bear, and Wolf. (Gag!) The descriptions of Jongalar's massive "member" fitting beautifully into Ayla's "warm, wet well" just got to be way, way too much. (Once was fun. 400 times was boring.) And...we cannot pass by the absolutely HORRIFIC poetry!
Would you listen to another book narrated by Sandra Burr?
Yes, if she didn't suddenly add a middle eastern accent to a voice she had already created. That was really disturbing.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Yes...it did teach a little cultural anthropology that was semi-accurate. For a pre-teenager, it would open the world a bit.
Any additional comments?
Do not buy this series. It is a total waste of time and money. Wait until someone abridges it to one book.

Historia
In the spirit of Oliver Sacks Awakenings and the TV series House, Dr. Eric Manheimer's Twelve Patients is a memoir from the medical director of Bellevue Hospital that uses the plights of 12 very different patients - from dignitaries at the nearby UN, to supermax prisoners from Riker's Island, to illegal immigrants, and Wall Street tycoons - to illustrate larger societal issues.

The WORST Narration Possible
Revisado: 10-21-13
Is there anything you would change about this book?
It needs a professional reader.
What was most disappointing about Eric Manheimer’s story?
That what could have been interesting stories were made dull and almost incomprehensible by the author's narration.
Would you be willing to try another one of Eric Manheimer’s performances?
No, never!
Did Twelve Patients inspire you to do anything?
Not listen to it again.
Any additional comments?
Please, Audible (and other audiobook producers), convince authors they are not usually the best person to read their own work.

Historia
Anthony Trollope's classic novel centers on Mr. Harding, a clergyman of great personal integrity whose charitable income far exceeds the purpose for which it was intended. On discovering this, young John Bold turns his reforming zeal toward exposing what he regards as an abuse of privilege, despite the fact that he is in love with Mr. Harding's daughter, Eleanor.

A Specialized Little Treat
Revisado: 03-12-12
Any additional comments?
Is Trollope an acquired taste? I'm not sure, since I've just started with this, the first in the Barchester Chronicles series. The story line is not complex, nor is there a lot of action, as opposed to interaction among the well-developed characters. These people react to the impact of the times, of society, and of each other's personalities. Overall, I enjoyed it and will listen to it again--but it's not one I'd recommend without these caveats.

Historia
P.D. James masterfully recreates the world of Pride and Prejudice, and combines it with the excitement and suspense of a brilliantly-crafted crime story. The year is 1803, and Darcy and Elizabeth have been married for six years. There are now two handsome and healthy sons in the nursery, Elizabeth’s beloved sister, Jane, and her husband, Bingley, live nearby, and the orderly world of Pemberley seems unassailable. But all this is threatened.

A Word Perfect 2012 Jane Austen
Revisado: 03-03-12
If you could sum up Death Comes to Pemberley in three words, what would they be?
Imitation...Sincere...Flattery
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Not that kind of mystery. This is relaxed social commentary. The death is really a sideline.
Have you listened to any of Sheila Mitchell???s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No. She's good.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice II
Any additional comments?
Kudos to P.D. James for this excellent follow-up. Please tell us what happens after all Jane Austen's books.

Historia
You are about to travel to Edgecombe St. Mary, a small village in the English countryside filled with rolling hills, thatched cottages, and a cast of characters both hilariously original and as familiar as the members of your own family. Among them is Major Ernest Pettigrew (retired), the unlikely hero of Helen Simonson's wondrous debut. Wry, courtly, opinionated, and completely endearing, Major Pettigrew is one of the most indelible characters in contemporary fiction, and from the very first page of this remarkable novel he will steal your heart.

Fantastic Surprise!
Revisado: 03-02-12
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Absolutely. Surprising characters that grow and change in amazing ways.
What other book might you compare Major Pettigrew's Last Stand to and why?
An everyperson's Jane Austen, maybe. A close--and sympathetic--look at life and society in our times. Not for women only--the men take the lead in this book.
What about Peter Altschuler???s performance did you like?
He simply brought every single character to life.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Can friendship turn to love in time to beat back social prejudices, religious conservatism, AND...ENCROACHING SUBURBIA....?
Any additional comments?
Oh, I did enjoy this one the first time, and the second...and the third...and the fourth...and maybe I'll go listen to it again now.
