Historia
In That Time of Year, Garrison Keillor looks back on his life and recounts how a Brethren boy with writerly ambitions grew up in a small town on the Mississippi in the 1950s and, seeing three good friends die young, turned to comedy and radio. Through a series of unreasonable lucky breaks, he founded A Prairie Home Companion and put himself in line for a good life, including mistakes, regrets, and a few medical adventures.

Winding through the years
Revisado: 04-15-21
what an enjoyable walkthrough days, months, years and decades of Garrison Keillor's life told with humor and poignant. I found myself so relaxed by his voice and style and yet never bored, looking forward to the next chapter.

Historia
Fourteen-year-old Gary, a self-described "tree toad" (lover of a perfect lawn, the soft-porn masterpiece of Carnal Cuties, his Underwood typewriter, and, above all, his rebellious cousin Kate), lives through one amazing Lake Wobegon summer. Gary preoccupies himself by spinning fantastic yarns about boogers, talking dogs, conversations between God and Jesus, and especially melodramas featuring himself as hero and Kate as distresseddamsel.

Historia
Richard Peck is a master of stories about people in transition, but perhaps never before has he told a tale of such dramatic change as this one, set during the first year of the Civil War. The whole country is changing in 1861, even the folks from a muddy little Illinois settlement on the banks of the Mississippi. Here, 15-year-old Tilly Pruitt frets over the fact that her brother is dreaming of being a soldier and that her sister is prone to supernatural visions.

I tried to like this
Revisado: 05-05-19
I hung in there to almost the whole book and halfway through the coda, I couldn't take it anymore and bailed! Although there are good truths for life, the wordiness drove me to finally stop listening. Concise writing is a gift; this author is the antithesis of brevity. With the many biblical references it was difficult to hear the interpretations which one not at all Christ centered, which is what the entire Bible is about. I'm sorry I just couldn't take this anymore.

Historia
In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared....

A Must Read for Every one
Revisado: 08-20-17
I knew this story from the movie which was good. The details that are rendered here are exquisite and the story comes to life with the magnificent reading by Herman. The parts that were left out of the movie are some of the best parts of this story. Very moving and compelling. I know I will read this again and again.

wrong actor to play Auggie
Revisado: 04-10-17
whoever the actor is reading August part ...well I should say, shouldn't have. The story is very sweet and well written. Both the teacher I work with and I just couldn't take this voice. There was something about it that was totally annoying. Had to quit the audible and buy the hard copy.

Historia
In curiously parallel lives, Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr were both orphaned at an early age. Both were brilliant students who attended college - one at Princeton, the other at Columbia - and studied law. Both were young staff officers under General George Washington, and both became war heroes. Politics beckoned them, and each served in the newly formed government of the fledgling nation. Why, then, did these two face each other at dawn in a duel that ended with death for one and opprobrium for the other?

love this. I had low expectations thinking it was like a kid's Disney movie but it was a complicated and beautiful and sweet story. The author is completely gifted in this type of writing. And the performance here was impeccable. Spot-on. Loved it!!!
