Musicology-based horror, my new favourite subgenre
Revisado: 04-22-23
This was recommended as a brilliant companion piece to the second novella in John Horner Jacobs' A Lush & Seething Hell, and I'm so glad I found it.

Historia
Gates Foster lost his daughter, Lucy, 17 years ago. He's never stopped searching. Suddenly, a shocking new development provides Foster with his first major lead in over a decade, and he may finally be on the verge of discovering the awful truth. Meanwhile, Mitzi Ives has carved out a space among the Foley artists creating the immersive sounds giving Hollywood films their authenticity. Using the same secret techniques as her father before her, she's become an industry-leading expert in the sound of violence and horror, creating screams so bone-chilling, they may as well be real.

Chuck returns to forn
Revisado: 05-29-21
As much as I loved Chuck's earliest offerings - Choke, Fight Club, Survivor, Diary, Haunted, etc, I haven't gotten anything out of his output in the past 10 years. Fans of older Palahniuk will love this.
Great narration as well.

Thinly Veiled Anti-vax Trash
Revisado: 12-26-18
WARNING: This is all the stupid, vacuous things anti-vaxers think, packaged as a slick thriller.
I've never written a review before, but feel the need to prevent you from being catfished, as I so rudely was, into listening to this absolute garbage. For four hours, I had sneaking suspicions of where this was going, but kept thinking it couldn't actually be anti-vax propaganda at the center.
But here we are.
Quick synopsis:
Big Bad Pharma makes a dangerous "vaccine" that causes seizures and suspiciously autism-like behaviors in woman's child. She does some facebook reasearch and learns the truth about the dangers of this drug.
One brave doctor dares to question why they're giving out this shot, only to be told to keep his mouth shut and give out his quota of doses so the clinic gets its bonus.
Please let me enjoy my audiobooks without tricking me into listening to this garbage reasoning and dangerously stupid line of thinking again. My god.
HARD PASS.

Historia
Eerie, dreamlike, set in a world that is weirdly related to our own, The Gunslinger introduces Roland Deschain of Gilead, of In-World that was, as he pursues his enigmatic antagonist to the mountains that separate the desert from the Western Sea in the first volume of The Dark Tower series. Roland, the last gunslinger, is a solitary figure, perhaps accursed, who with a strange single-mindedness traverses an exhausted, almost timeless landscape of good and evil.

A struggle to get through
Revisado: 12-03-15
The only redeeming feature was that it was generously short. Nothing that happened was very interesting and the characters were totally flat.
It's the first book in what is supposed to be a fantastic series, so I hope it was worth the struggle, but then again, I wish I had just read the summary on Wikipedia rather than wasting a credit on this book.

Historia
On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

Amazing story, superb narration.
Revisado: 11-30-15
Didn't expect a newer Stephen King Novel to be so absolutely perfect. It's certainly not a horror story, but it is most definitely one of the best of his I have yet come across.
The voice actor does a great job of portraying the voices and accents of the differenr characters. There were many moments that I aware of just how much the actor was actually adding to the entire experience with his inflections in the dialouge.

Historia
Chuck Palahniuk, the author of the New York Times best-sellers Fight Club and Lullaby, is known for his edgy novels, and Rant is no exception. Palahniuk presents this fictional biography of Buster "Rant" Casey in a series of vignettes told by the people who knew him best. As intricate as a spider web, Rant succeeds in recounting the story of one man's life only through the eyes of others. But the question remains, "Who was Rant Casey?"

Good Story, Despite writing Style
Revisado: 07-29-15
Narrators were great, and it's a great story, but the oral history writing style gets irritating after a while, as each time someone speaks, they first introduce themselves, breaking the momentum of the story.
Otherwise, this is a great Dystopian Fiction piece. It is a departure from the style of Chuck Palahniuk's other, more well-known pieces such as Fight Club and Choke. The oral history format, while irritating to listen to after a while, is an interesting approach to creating a tale of fiction.

Amazing Narrator, Phenomenal Story
Revisado: 07-26-15
A joy to listen to. Stephen Webber brings life to each character and truly embodies them in a way I haven't heard before. You feel their emotions in his voice, and you cannot mistake one character for another.
The story goes so in depth about the town of Derry, Maine that you can easily believe it to be a real place with a troubled history. The children, by the end of the book, feel like ones own childhood friends.
Recommended highly for anyone who enjoyed the movie and would like to get the full story that the film scraped the surface of.
