pleasant and fun, but ...
Revisado: 06-30-24
Don't take my 3 star story rating to heart, folks. This was a fun story and mostly kept my interest throughout. I will continue with the series. The characters are likable and even somewhat believable. If you go into it expecting the story that it looks like it's going to be, then I think you'll enjoy it too. I'm sure there was no intention for it to be any kind of literary masterpiece and it isn't. It was exactly what I expected and that was perfectly fine. On to book 2!

In this searing memoir, Congressman Jamie Raskin tells the story of the forty-five days at the start of 2021 that permanently changed his life—and his family’s—as he confronted the painful loss of his son to suicide, lived through the violent insurrection in our nation’s Capitol, and led the impeachment effort to hold President Trump accountable for inciting the political violence.

Give it a chance
Revisado: 05-30-22
Let the listeners collective rating speak for itself. You can usually rely on the wisdom of the crowd if the crowd is large enough.
But it's important to be thoughtful about some reviewers' comments, imagining who or what they might be and to try to discern how much credibility to lend them. Sometimes I wonder if they listened to the same book as me when reading their venomous drivel or their gushing praise in the review section.
This was a good, solid listen. It wasn't incredible or perfect and it didn't have to be. I don't think it was meant to send us with the main character into another universe, at least not with any certainty.
There was no tunnel, no mysterious doorway, no circle of stones in Scotland or antique armoire in a mansion. It was just a pretty good story that won't rip your heart out or force you to suspend your entire belief system to get through it.
The book explores, in depth, an individual's sudden perception that the direction of their life was far different than their most recent memories supported. They had conflicting or missing memories of people, events and places and discovered that the things that they valued most in life may have been a construct of their mind, barring any real evidence of an alternative.
A literary masterpiece this was not, but it is well written, well narrated and definitely worth the credit.

I had my doubts but is a good one!
Revisado: 03-18-22
I'm such a huge fan of EWR's first two "Cycle of" series that it was just a given that I'd love the Cycle of the Scour series. But, I found Cali's story a little hard to embrace at first. This second story was a much better installment, though, especially since TGR is doing the narration. Cali has matured into a fine warrior wizard, worthy of the likes of Dante' to come.
This prequel sequel was really good! The Edward/Tim team is a winning one.

Historia
When Van Tudor returns to his childhood home, he inherits more than the family farm. His grandfather used to tell him fantastic stories of spacemen and monsters, princesses and galactic knights. Little did Van realize, the old man's tales were more than fiction; they were real. Hidden beneath the old barn, Van’s legacy is waiting: a starship, not of this world. With his combat AI, an android bird named Perry, Van takes his first steps into the wider galaxy. He soon finds that space is far busier and more dangerous than he could have ever conceived.

Revisado: 02-18-22
The narration was pretty good but I didn't connect with this story. I might have sabotaged my experience with this book by having just finished a different book, which was great. I might have needed to cleanse my palette with something more simple in order to enjoy this modern 'Buck Rogers' style adventure. It just didn't click with me. But if you like Star Wars spin off books or Ufo-lands-in-the-countryside' books, this might just be your thing! Just don't read anything really good just before it.

Really good!
Revisado: 02-07-22
The title of this book will make you think that the story is something that it is not. Yet it is accurate in describing the general circumstances within which the story unfolds.
If the title makes you think "Oh, another portal through time book" or "probably just another take on Stephen King's 'The Langoliers' story", you would be sorely mistaken. But understandably so.
I admit I have an affection for a good time travel adventure and the 'mysterious storm' or a 'Worm Hole to another dimension' stories, and that is what initially attracted me to this title. By the time I realized something else was going on I was fully invested in the characters and the plain old good story telling. I had a desire to see the unlikely and believable hero through to his personal conclusion, and, of course, hopefully learn the What, Who and Why's.
So, whether the title draws you in or tends to scare you away, this book isn't what you think. If your not too faint of heart, you shouldn't pass this one by.

Rock god. Justice fighter. Rabble-rouser. Ivy Leaguer. An American renegade and fearless truth teller. Rage Against the Machine’s guitar virtuoso, Tom Morello, is many things; but perhaps, he himself, sums it up best: a one-man revolution. For the first time ever, hear Morello fuse the deeply personal with the political in a rapturous, badass, one-man show that skillfully balances soul-bearing stories with spellbinding guitar fury: Speaking Truth to Power Through Stories and Song by Tom Morello.

This was brilliant and uplifting. Not to mention, a joy for a Rage Against the Machine fan!

Historia
In the summer of 1990, Eddie Vedder left the surf and sun in San Diego to join a group of friends working to put a new band together in the Seattle underground. Within months, they were anything but underground; they’d found their lead singer, and Vedder went on to lead Pearl Jam on a global takeover of ‘90s culture. In this latest edition of Audible’s Words + Music series, Vedder dives deep, reflecting on a life at the intersection of art, sensitivity, and masculinity.

Revisado: 12-12-21
Thank You, Eddie.
As a fan from the first song released to the FM airways, this short look into the origin story of Eddie Vedder was long overdue for me. I feel like it only scratched the surface of what would be a super fascinating whole story. But if this is what there is, I'm happy for it.
Pearl Jam/EV music has touched my life on many occasions and has given me a lot of years of listening pleasure. I find myself always wanting to know more about people that have the power to do that.
The world is a better place having Pearl Jam and Eddie in it. Listen to this Audiobook.

No Wonder
Revisado: 11-05-21
I typically keep my negative opinions to myself and what few reviews I write, are generally about books and authors that excite or enthrall.
What we have here, albeit, in my humble layman's opinion, is a lame and uncompelling story, presented in a ridiculous format, that couldn't even have been saved by a group of talented actors. Actors which, I might add, did not seem to me to even attempt any acting that could rescue such a poor piece.
Not what we've come to expect from works with Patterson's name on them.
It hurts my little heart to be so devastatingly honest about this piece, but it's so terrible that Audible and Patterson would have to pay me to finish it.
It's no wonder it was free.
Sorry.
