Lindsey Stirling is remarkably talented and I was so happy to listen to her narration of her own book. It's interesting to hear where she got her start and the many different ways she advocated for herself as she built her career. A must listen for fans but also a really good novel for anyone who has ever felt like their dreams were too risky, they were far too strange to work, or that no one would ever "buy" them. #HiddenTalents #Quirky #Tearjerker

After giving the first season of the show a try I was quite enchanted with the world of Brakebills (the trouble with audio is I'm never sure of the correct spelling). Rather than try to fit the novels into my packed lifestyle I decided audio was the way to go about it and Mark Bramhall was the perfect narrator for this. That said, I found the novel to be a bit windy and winding at times, almost in the way Tolkien could be but more dull than painful. With Bramhall's stylings, it could get a bit tedious to listen to at times and I found myself upping the speed more often than I usually go just to get to a part with more meat.

As often happens to me I found that I enjoyed the show more than the book but will definitely finish listening to the series as I have really enjoyed comparing the two.

Having just finished another very well done and interesting title from the author and narrator I dove into this eager for more. By the end of the third chapter I had to stop because the production quality of the recording was so bad. It popped and skipped like an old vinyl record. It was bothersome and actually quite jarring. Looks like I’ll be reading the kindle version instead of listening this time.

I'm a regular Headspace app user. I never thought I'd be able to meditate but the app did a great job of teaching me and now I meditate every day. But the subscription is spendy for most folks so finding a few guided meditation sessions right here on Audible can be a great alternative and this one is fantastic.

I do find the music to be a bit beyond ambient and it may be distracting for some. The voice performance seems so familiar and has a roboticness to it that makes me think it was not performed by an actual human. Those two issues aside I loved this guided meditation and will definitely be looking for more from Mindfulness Training to supplement my use of Headspace.

I've been writing for fun in some form or another since I was able to hold a writing implement. Having toyed with the idea of taking my dabblings to the next level—publishing—and having many published author friends whom I felt might enjoy it, I thought I'd give this a listen.

Not only is this a great book for aspiring authors, it's a fantastic resource for indies, mid-listers, and anyone who wants to take their writing career farther. One of the points Penn makes that I found particularly wonderful is that everyone defines their own success. She then gives you keys to how to reach farther and go bigger while providing anecdotal experiences from her own writing journey.

Whatever your genre, whatever your goals, whatever your location on the writer's journey, you are sure to find at least one useful suggestion for getting the right mindset. I chose to enjoy it as an audiobook and really found the narrator to be engaging and charming, she did a fantastic job of keeping Penn's writing lively. I would much recommend picking this up in digital or print for easier reference points but it is definitely a listen I would recommend too.

If I were still working as a publicist I would share this with every debut author I worked with, I think it's a resource worth every penny.

I've been on a bit of a self-help kick, devouring books about managing mental illnesses, having better physical health, and more professionally focused reads as well. This one seemed awfully short to offer much but to my surprise it was quite meaty and had some rich insights.

While its up to an individual to define their version of success, the habits outlined within are great for anyone with a desire to make their life better. Available in print and ebook formats it would make a great tool for a young adult just moving beyond school and parental guidance and as an audiobook (the format I read it in) it's perfect for a lunch time pep-talk or while stuck in gridlock. The narrator has a very business like tone that doesn't feel conversational but that works well with the subject matter.

Overall, I'm really glad I took a chance on this. I think I'll wind up picking up the ebook to reference from time to time for one of those lunch hour pep talks.

An unexpected romance gem I solidly recommend!

Revisado: 08-24-16

I'm not much of a historical romance reader. On the surface this book is pretty much the opposite of what I read and review. When I perused NPR's 100 Swoon-Worthy Romances in search of a gem or two that I might like it was the one that stood out. I'm an advocate for diversity in romance but it's still very rare to find characters with mental handicaps. Since it was so well reviewed I felt quite confident that Jesse was going to be treated as a person with the same dreams and desires as any man. I took the plunge and this book blew me away.

I listened to it on audio and at times the narrator was so good he was annoying but he brought the Ozarks and Marrying Stone to life. Morsi is a phenomenal writer. Not one word ever feels extraneous or like filler. The characters are vibrant, lively, and felt like they were real people, not caricatures. The plot is a bit of a classic, I could easily see this made into a Hallmark movie. Althea is impressively strong and flawed but someone with a good heart. Jesse may have ruined all future romance novel heroes for me. He's such a good man and so deserving of the love he finds.

If you're looking for an engrossing, heart-felt romance that is pretty unique please do yourself a solid and read Simple Jess. Even though it's not a book I would have ever found on my own it would make my own top 100 for it's beautiful contributions to the romance genre.

Notes: I received an audio review copy from the author for review.

After ogling Gimpel's beautiful covers for a long time I finally broke down and picked this series up in hopes of finding something a little different in the paranormal shelves. I'm pleased to report that it is not only very well narrated, the world building is familiar but different enough to feel quite fresh. The story felt a bit rushed and I must admit I felt like I was missing a lot of information but I found it to be an enjoyable listen. It's a prequel that readers who enjoy Celtic themes and dragon shifter romances will likely love. It' does involve time travel of a sort so it wasn't the historical paranormal I mistook it to be but I'll probably give the next in the series a go.

A great start to what looks like a great UF series

As much as I love the UF genre, I got into it for the mysteries with supernatural elements but I've felt like a lot of them devolve into sex-fests. Not that there's anything wrong with romantic and intimate relationships, I just really hate when those become the core of an UF series. I was so thrilled to get a listen to SHADOW SIGHT and find that wasn't at all an issue.

It's not often you get to enjoy a story where water fae are used and I've always loved kelpies so the plot was fantastic. Ivy and Jinx are a quirky team and I really enjoyed the secondary characters, especially Marvin. (I also have a soft spot for trolls). It reminded me of early Anita Blake or Allie Beckstrom. If you've been looking for an enjoyable urban fantasy I would definitely recommend checking it out.

I quite enjoyed Traci Odom's narration, I thought she suited Ivy very well. I will definitely be picking up the next book in the series soon.

Get ready for some hot Texas nights...

I started my Jessie Evans fangirling with her small town sweet romances. She writes such great characters and small towns that it was only a matter of time before I caved and snapped up her Lonesome Point, Texas series books. I'm not really into the whole Texas or cowboy thing but sometimes I'll make an exception with an author I love already or a plot element that's hard to resist. I'm thrilled to find that while LEATHER AND LACE is far more suspenseful and very steamy, it's just as enjoyable as previous Evans' books I've read.

I think that—like most romance readers—I have a special spot in my heart for heroes with a sad back story. There's something about seeing a guy who has had a tough life become a courageous, gentle man instead of a thug. Sawyer could so easily have become that. He's a big bald guy who rides a motorcycle and wears a Stetson and I found him surprisingly sweet and gentle. Mia's so full of sass it's a wonder any guy could get past her emotional defenses—'cause she's had her own bumpy past when it comes to relationships. Together they just combust.

I actually wound up snagging the audiobook for L&L because it was a steal since I owned the Kindle copy already. If you're an audio reader I think it's a great listen. I almost died of red-face though because I was listening without headphones and it got to the first love scene—which was pretty long and very dialog-heavy—and my husband got to hear the whole scene. If you love a high-heat romance I'm pretty sure my husband's disgusted reactions to the male narrator reading the scene are an indication you'll enjoy it. lol

If you're into romantic suspense genre, there is a mystery and a suspense element to the overall story, but I'll admit I wasn't expecting them based on the blurb and they were kind of meh to me. I just wasn't feeling them, kinda felt a little like they detracted from the small-town romance mood in a way that just didn't work for me. But, if you dig the genre you might love it, it's just not my thing outside of the paranormal shelves.

Overall, it was a terrific read on audio but I think I would have been just as happy reading it myself. I'm really looking forward to diving into SADDLES AND SIN as well as DIAMONDS AND DUST because I adored Bubba and Tulsi as secondary characters. If you wind up rooting for secondaries to get their own books I definitely recommend picking up the HOT TEXAS DAYS box set which features the first three books in the series!
