New favorite narrator. Exceptional performance brought a better than average book to life. Still can't believe all those characters voices came from the one narrater.

Average read. Not exceptional. Not terrible. Pick it up if you spot it on deep discount. Think I may have grabbed the first three cheap so I'll continue the series but if I hadn't already got them in my library I wouldn't continue the series.

They were the last great band of the '60s and the first great band of the '70s. They rose, somewhat unpromisingly, from the ashes of the Yardbirds to become one of the biggest-selling rock bands of all time - and eventually paid the price for it, with disaster, drug addiction, and death.

Much longer than it needed to be.
Revisado: 01-07-18
Much longer than it needed to be. Does not paint a particlarily pretty picture of the band. Lot of repetitious story telling.
An awful lot of occult Alistair Crowley bull. I got the impression that it was written by a former insider who had had a falling out with the band, didn't quite set out to make the band look childish and self absorbed but could help having that attitude seep into his writing.
By the time he starts droning on with the occultism stuff I just wanted it to end. and it wasn't even half done I'd guess.
The narrator is terrific. one of my favorites. He does the Guy Gavriel Kay books. Just didn't have anything to work with. 18 hours of some author who doesn't like the subject of his book anymore and struggles to hide it.
As a fan of the band this was a tremendous disappointment.

Imagined something different.
Revisado: 11-27-15
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Was the kind of read that if I could loan it to a friend I would but not sure I'd recommend they buy it. From the description I was imagining something else. I was expecting something more like 'The Road' , and I believe if the author had explored that 'sole survivor' aspect further before bringing in additional survivors I would have enjoyed it more.
If you’ve listened to books by Richard Levesque before, how does this one compare?
Have not read him before.
What does LC Kane bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Performance was acceptable but nothing noteworthy.
Could you see The Girl at the End of the World being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
I could see it being done as a Movie, seems like the kind of thing you'd see turn up as a series just cause its Network cookie cutter fare, but I wouldn't necessarily wish for it.
Any additional comments?
As far as the author's ideas for the apocalypse, for lack of a better word, I thought that was great. My enjoyment dropped significantly when the additional survivors were brought in though.I would have encouraged him to extend the first part of the book and finish with the addition of the other survivors.
Above average start to the book (first half), then the tone changed and felt lazy, less descriptive.

Historia
Three years after losing his father in a fire, 13-year-old Jethro Black (his friends call him Jet) finds himself embarking upon a mysterious adventure when, while attending his grandfather's funeral, a strange man walks up and gives him an envelope and a key. As a mystery begins to unfold, Jet and his best friend Travis are about to discover that there is more to the world than meets the eye, and they just may have a crucial role to play in the outcome of humanity's future. Nebulous is the first release in the young adult science fiction book series, Jet Black. Warning. This book series will take you on an adventurous ride through the world of Jet Black. Here you will inevitably find various religious and spiritual undertones woven into the story. Some of these are subtle, some are not. Others are hidden as clues to a larger picture. While some readers may value these as hidden treasures, others may choose to see them differently. If you are easily offended by religious and/or spiritual content, I suggest you turn back now. If however, you are not afraid of such things, by all means... Proceed at your own risk.

I wish I'd read 'young adult science fiction book'
Revisado: 11-27-15
What would have made Nebulous better?
I wish I had read 'young adult science fiction book series' in the description before purchasing it. Even so, I would have placed it in a category quite a bit lower than 'young adult', maybe ten to thirteen years old.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Think I'll go Fantasy for my next book.
What about Ray Greenley’s performance did you like?
Good, but not particularly note worthy.
What character would you cut from Nebulous?
Neither Fig or Ely were necessary. Fig may have played a part in setting up the next book in the series but I'll never know. For this book he could have easily been written out. His role seems like it should be important but the author just never went anywhere with it.
Any additional comments?
Being intentionally vague here as I don't want to Spoil anybody's read, but things that occur in the book that should be really really really time sensitive were handled with an 'I'll take care of that tomorrow' kinda attitude and it felt awkward.

A nice quick listen.
Revisado: 08-21-15
What did you love best about The Road?
The setting.
What other book might you compare The Road to and why?
Not so much books, but reminds me a lot of computer games I've been playing lately. Survival type games like DayZ, minus the zombies of course. DayZ having zombies and The Road not having zombies.
What about Tom Stechschulte’s performance did you like?
Good performance.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Yes. Its a good book. Not a classic by any means but an entertaining listen with well thought out characters.
What aspect of Luke Daniels’s performance would you have changed?
Luke's performance was good. He represented the book well.
Did The Dreams of a Dying God inspire you to do anything?
No.
Any additional comments?
It was worth the listen. If the rest of the series comes up on sale I might find myself buying the next one.

Absolutely. I may even buy it for friends. I found it refreshingly original.
What about George Newbern’s performance did you like?
Well read. No complaints.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
There is one point where I cried. Which was embarrassing as I was in a restaurant having lunch while reading at the time.
Any additional comments?
Just an all round good book. Well paced. I'm very happy to be able to recommend it.

Under the command of Admiral Raymond Spruance, the Fifth Fleet participated in the invasions of Tarawa and Iwo Jima and several naval battles in the Philippine Sea and the Leyte Gulf.

Tedious to listen too.
Revisado: 08-21-15
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Not sure its possible. My expectation was a story about life on a Destroyer. What this reads like is the ships navigation logs with a hand full of diary type paragraphs thrown in here and there.
Would you ever listen to anything by C. Snelling Robinson again?
Not likely.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
I marked the performance as two stars and felt bad doing so. Its not so much the performance but lack of any kind of emotion in the story itself. Narrator had nothing to work with. Found the performance monotonous, again at no fault to the narrator. The books just monotonous.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment.
Any additional comments?
Reads like a ships log. No emotion. On this date the ship turned left. Four hours later we turned right. No characters. No dialogue. Just this is what the ship did on this day. On this day we had this for lunch. On this day we fired on Japanese planes but failed to hit them ... again.
Admittedly, I stopped listening after Chapter 12. I should have stopped after Chapter 3. At first I was thinking that the author was just setting us up with some background before the story. But apparently the story is all background.

Like reading two completely unrelated books.
Revisado: 08-02-15
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
No. It was like reading two separate books. I liked the first half. Had trouble transitioning to the second half.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
Not sure.
How could the performance have been better?
Neither performance was stellar. Wasn't keen on either narrator. Sometimes a narrator makes a book. Not in this case unfortunately.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Might make a decent movie. Easier to follow.
Any additional comments?
I've read Neal Stephenson before and have enjoyed him. I'm tempted to think my problems with this book were with narration more than anything.
