Love this book
Revisado: 08-20-21
This book is romantic, funny, a trip into the time between WW1 and 2 without being weighed down by a bunch of boring history. It’s also smart and satisfying to the passionate thinker.

Okay
Revisado: 08-08-21
The narrative spreads out over generations of family members, delving into each characters life and digging into a unified theme about changing your personal identity. It is topical and political commenting on race and gender, so I can see why people recommend it. It is too intellectual and glum for me to love it, though. I wanted some catharsis or resolution at the end but it leaves things kind of stilted and frayed. Very Post Modern

Historia
Set during the Depression in the depleted farmlands surrounding Augusta, Georgia, Tobacco Road was first published in 1932. It is the story of the Lesters, a family of white sharecroppers so destitute that most of their creditors have given up on them. Debased by poverty to an elemental state of ignorance and selfishness, the Lesters are preoccupied by their hunger, sexual longings, and fear that they will one day descend to a lower rung on the social ladder than the black families who live near them.

A moral tale
Revisado: 07-30-21
This story will certainly make a person think twice about adultery. Kind of like Anna Karenina. It’s good but very French so don’t expect a happy ending.

Heartwarming adventure
Revisado: 07-11-21
This book is heartwarming but also a nonstop adventure. Knowing the premise I was like “how the heck is the author going to pull this off in a plausible way?” But he actually did it. Its Judy Blume meets John Greene. Loved.

Groundhog Day middle
Revisado: 05-26-21
I liked the message of this book, but the story was annoying. The beginning hooked me, and the end taught a good lesson, but the middle was full of cliche characters, way too many parties, and a female love interest that I just wanted to slap the whole time. I found myself cursing her out in the climax. I get what the author was going for—I just felt his idealizing her didn’t make sense because she was so unlikable all the way through. She didn’t do anything extraordinary, she just talked about things she’d done in the past. That made her lame.

Hilarious and Spiritual
Revisado: 05-26-21
This is hilarious! It’s about Middle School, preteen girls who are are way too preoccupied with praying for boobs and innocently interested in boys. It is hilarious in that way. The girl also goes on an authentic spiritual journey which people who know God but get frustrated by cookie cutter religion will relate to. A new favorite!

Historia
It's just a small story really, about, among other things, a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery. Set during World War II in Germany, Markus Zusak's groundbreaking new novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich. Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can't resist: books.

Gentle for all Readers
Revisado: 02-15-21
The heavy narrative frame made me skeptical. Usually a frame that heavy is used for middle grade books so readers feel more safe, like they have a hand holding them through the story. I must say, I was glad as the story progressed the narrator was there to cushion the story. It will still break your heart, but you will not be left devastated as you might from a Tolstoy novel. Enjoy, I loved and believe you will too!
