As a non-mathematical person who taught math to elementary students, I have great appreciation for this book because it uses everyday activities to explain much deeper mathematical concepts. I would have given this a much lower score, however, if it weren’t for the author’s addendum, which really does explain the concepts well. Except one. I would have given this book a five if she, at any point, actually explained infinite or how things are deemed finite. And as the children use the expression in colloquial ways as well, this doesn’t help define it. While there are infinite ways you can make pie, the pie itself is not infinite. It’s an important nuance that isn’t addressed. But so many other concepts are that I still give this a four. However, that’s a major omission as far as I’m concerned.

This is CRITICAL information, especially post-2020. At first, I struggled with who this book was for - is it young people or their parents? Then I realized that it's really for both. This is information that young people need as well as a perspective that parents need to have. It is accessible and really looks at the money challenges of today, giving young people a solid understanding of how we got here and what's driving the current environment. But then it is step by step solutions to addressing financial health - from credit cards to higher education decisions to buying a house to creating generational wealth.

Millennials and Gen Z are in a drastically different situation than the generations before them. From the cost of housing and college to the onslaught of purchase pressure from social media algorithms and targeting ads. I know it's a consideration I didn't make. But this book recognizes this important change in climate and provides real, practical advice on how to navigate through it to still achieve financial health and wealth. From understanding how to select a credit card and how to use it to understanding what is a part of the home purchase process, this is real, detailed financial literacy that is definitely overlooked in most schools. This will be my high school and college-age gift because they need to know all of what's covered in this book.
