Historia
In this intimate, haunting, literary memoir read by the author, an American icon tells her story for the first time, in her own gorgeous words - about a challenging and lonely childhood, the craft that helped her find her voice, and a powerful emotional legacy that shaped her journey as a daughter and a mother.

Long, overwrought and depressing
Revisado: 09-09-21
Well I very much enjoy Sally Field of the actress, this book over analyzes every single detail of her life. It would be far better if it were half as long and with some interesting stories about the films that she worked on and other actors with who she collaborated. I kept waiting Facebook to get better and it never did. Sorry to be harsh but this I can’t understand all the good reviews this book.

Historia
Most people know Andrew McCarthy from his movie roles in Pretty in Pink, St. Elmo's Fire, Weekend at Bernie's, and Less Than Zero, and as a charter member of Hollywood's Brat Pack. That iconic group of ingenues and heartthrobs has come to represent both a genre of film and an era of pop culture. In his memoir, McCarthy focuses his gaze on that singular moment in time. The result is a revealing look at coming of age in a maelstrom, reckoning with conflicted ambition, innocence, addiction, and masculinity.

Great 80s flashback
Revisado: 05-25-21
Great audiobook! My only criticism of this book is that it was too short. Andrew McCarthy told a great story of the 80s. I was fan back then but not someone who made it a point to see all of his films. It was nevertheless great to be brought back to the 1980s and learn more about life behind the scenes for the actors we all watched. I wish that he had gone into more detail about his work as a travel writer and director. I was definitely left wanting more. (Review by Mrs. Peter and not Peter himself.)

Historia
Simon Basset, the irresistible Duke of Hastings, has hatched a plan to keep himself free from the town's marriage-minded society mothers. He pretends to be engaged to the lovely Daphne Bridgerton. After all, it isn't as if the brooding rogue has any real plans to marry - though there is something about the alluring Miss Bridgerton that sets Simon's heart beating a bit faster. And as for Daphne, surely the clever debutante will attract some very worthy suitors now that it seems a duke has declared her desirable.

Cringeworthy
Revisado: 05-20-21
While I am a big fan of the Bridgerton series on Netflix, this audio version is cringeworthy. The narrator (especially her imitation of a man’s voice) combined with the flowery romance language makes it painful to listen to. I’m astonished that Shonda Rhimes could make such a great TV series out of this book. (P. S. This review is by Peter‘s wife and not Peter.)

Great book from a lousy politician
Revisado: 04-30-21
While I hated John Boehner the politician, I love John Boehner the storyteller. He does try to recast himself along the lines of Saint John the Baptist into Saint John the Boehner especially when describing his motives but, despite his rosey interpretation of his actions, it’s great to read about Washington from the flipside of the coin. He’s a terrific narrator and very interesting story teller. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in politics regardless of which side of the aisle you’re on.

Terrific read
Revisado: 04-13-21
Matt Berman tells of John‘s life and his at the magazine George with authenticity and a light touch. Matt’s own life and work experiences before he went to George also draw the reader in, leaving the book enjoyable from start to finish. Thank you, Matt, for taking the time to write this. It was a pleasure to hear about your days at the magazine with John.

On today's world stage, there is one leader who stands apart from the rest. Queen Elizabeth II has seen more of the planet and its people than any other head of state and has engaged with the world like no other monarch in modern history. The iconic monarch never ventured further than the Isle of Wight until the age of 20 but since then has now visited over 130 countries across the globe in the line of duty, acting as diplomat, hostess, and dignitary as the world stage has changed beyond recognition.

Slow start but great book overall
Revisado: 12-13-20
I could have lived without John Douglas‘s description of his childhood and years in school but, once he begins with the FBI, the book is irresistible. Enthralled with stories of the various serial killers cases he was involved in. Highly recommend. Riveting. Much better than the TV show.

The number one New York Times best-selling story about American Olympic triumph in Nazi Germany, the inspiration for the PBS documentary The Boys of '36, broadcast to coincide with the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 80th anniversary of the boys' gold medal race. Out of the depths of the Depression comes an irresistible story about beating the odds and finding hope in the most desperate of times - the improbable, intimate account of how nine working-class boys from the American West showed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin what true grit really meant.

Painfully slow
Revisado: 11-05-20
I really wanted to like this book. I stuck out the entire thing but it was painfully slow. It would have benefited from editing it down to half its length and focusing more on the time in Germany for the Olympics and less on the never ending backstory.

I remember well listening to Van Halen high school but was never a particularly big fan. I still really enjoyed this book. Great inside stories about what goes on backstage, the challenges of a new band making their way, and the expected debauchery. Very light listen but a very good listen.

Professor Louis Moore’s audiobook about the history of African Americans in sports in the United States educates listeners about the fascinating social and cultural history of the nation. For example, integration of major league and professional sports broke a major color barrier for one of the first times in the early years of the Civil Rights Movement. African American athletes competed in America long before the 20th century - in fact, they even competed during the years of slavery.

Great stories about long forgotten athletes and heroes
Revisado: 07-26-20
Excellent book and I particularly enjoyed the early history of African-American athletes. I had no idea how many of the early Kentucky derby winners were slaves. While the end of the book details of recent events, the first several chapters explore history most of us have never learned. Well worth a listen.
