Historia
Expert Sherlockians Laurie King and Leslie Klinger put forth the question: What happens when great writers/creators who are not known as Sherlock Holmes devotees admit to being inspired by Conan Doyle stories? While some are highly regarded mystery writers, others are best known for their work in the fields of fantasy or science fiction. All of these talented authors, however, share a great admiration for Arthur Conan Doyle and his greatest creations, Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson.

I really enjoyed this collection, yes there were a couple stories that were not my cup of tea but overall I found them high quality and am looking forward to trying the other collections in the series.

Someone is killing sheep in the Cotswolds. Or something. As Holmes and Watson arrive in the tranquility of a little village of shepherds and farmers to enjoy a few restful days in the idyllic countryside, strange things start to occur. While Holmes locks himself in his hotel room, consumed by depression, Watson is left to explore the surroundings on his own, acquainting himself with both the local shepherding community, the eccentric vicar, and the local folklore concerning a mysterious werewolf.

Love this narrator! Fun stories. Enjoyed it a lot!
Revisado: 07-17-20
Okay, so these stories are kind of cheesy, but they are fun and I really enjoy listening. The narrator is maybe a little over the top but I think that adds to the fun. He really does a whole cast of characters and makes them each sound individual. His somewhat Count Dracula take on the Holmes voice has really grown on me, lol. I do recommend them for an enjoyable experience for the true Holmes lover, if you're a purist you might not like them, I would recommend bending a little and having some fun!

Historia
It’s 1890 and the newly famous Sherlock Holmes faces his worst adversary to date - a diabolical villain bent on destroying some of London’s most admired public figures in particularly gruesome ways. A further puzzle is that suicide closely attends each of the murders. As he tracks the killer through vast and seething London, Holmes finds himself battling both an envious Scotland Yard and a critical press as he follows a complex trail from performers to princes, anarchists to aesthetes.

Tried hard to like it but couldn't even finish it
Revisado: 05-23-20
There were good elements to this book and the narrator is fairly good but the good parts were drowned out for me by the cheapness of making Watson an absolute idiot who, in their third book together by this author and after years of sharing adventures together, still doesn't seem to know Holmes at all! This just seemed such a poor way of meshing everything together and bringing about the finale. It angered me and insulted my intelligence after the actually enjoyable parts of the book. Can't recommend it.

An unexpected discovery! Right up my alley! Intelligent mystery and historical details that are too often missing from a warm, cozy detective story. Can't tell you how much I enjoyed this book and will listen too it again - after I listen to the first two in the series! A new favorite author, a new favorite detective and cast of supporting characters. And can't forget a new favorite narrator! I am thrilled when I find a narrator who can sound - believably! - like an entire audio cast and this narrator certainly can as well as having one of the most pleasant reading voices I have found so far. Highest praise for this fun mystery!

Reluctantly, Sherlock Holmes agrees to assist Inspector Lestrade who is being hounded by an obnoxious nobleman whose jewel-encrusted dagger has gone missing. However, what Holmes initially believes to be a simple theft turns out instead to be his first encounter with a master criminal, who is as ruthless as he is brilliant and whom Watson dubs "The Merchant of Menace".

A fun listen! Enjoyed it a lot!
Revisado: 05-14-20
At first I found the Sherlock Holmes voice a little overdone, more like Count Dracula than Holmes, but decided to give it a chance because the story was good and I really liked the historical detail. Then I thought hey this is a pretty good cast and then looked again and realized it is just one narrator talented enough to give the impression of an entire cast! The sound effects help give the impression of a full cast recording and really enhance to story. Give it a chance and remember that you are listening to just one person! Clever story, talented narrator & a great touches of humor.

Great original! I hope Audible does more Sherlock originals and hopefully with the same cast. I loved it and will listen to it again, possibly more than once, and an audio book or drama has to be very very good before I will do that! Looking forward to savoring it and enjoying more details! This is a quality production like a BBC audio drama, it's a shame that we don't do more of these in the US as they do in the UK. Please, Audible, give us some more Sherlock!

Superb! Classic! Fun! Not enough stars to rate it!
Revisado: 04-09-17
What made the experience of listening to The Curse of the Pharaohs the most enjoyable?
This is my second favorite entry in the series only because Crocodile on the Sandbank came before it and is the ultimate classic. These books will never get old, they are timeless good fun, well written, humorous, great characters. This series is my all time favorite and I can listen to the books over and over and over again and still be entertained.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Well plotted and it keeps you very interested, but part of the fun is that you can solve the mystery along with the characters. Even then the author is skillful enough to keep you surprised. Just love these books!
What does Barbara Rosenblat bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Barbara Rosenblat brings the characters, all of them by the way!, to ultimate life. And she just gets better as the series goes on and more characters are added. You would swear you are listening to more than one person sometimes. She is every bit as talented as David Suchet reading Murder on the Orient Express and vocalizing all those characters, I was amazed by both!
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Both! And in the best way possible. The beauty of it is, it continues to do so at the umpteenth listening!
Any additional comments?
Can't say enough good things about this book in particular, the entire series, the author an the narrator!
