Historia
For San Francisco’s newest medical examiner, Dr. Jessie Teska, it was supposed to be a fresh start. A new job in a new city. A way to escape her own dark past. Instead, she faces a chilling discovery when an opioid-overdose case contains hints of something more sinister. Jessie’s superiors urge her to close the case, but as more bodies land on her autopsy table, she uncovers a constellation of deaths that point to an elaborate plot involving drug dealers and Bitcoin brokers.

Interesting and Very Informative
Revisado: 04-24-25
The authors have put together an interesting mystery from a rather unique perspective: the autopsy room. Buried in the mystery are insights into the mind of a pathologist, skillfully woven into the narrative of several interesting cases. One thing I did not see (or I missed) was the rationale of the Chief Medical Examiner's decision to close a particular case.

A disastrous debate, a would-be assassin’s bullet, an electrifying eleventh hour candidate swap, dramatic and surprising VP selections, betrayals behind closed doors, charges of a stolen election, game-changing blunders—the history-making 2024 presidential election is a political saga of Shakespearean proportions. In minute-by-minute detail, esteemed White House historian and political analyst Chris Whipple chronicles the unprecedented drama as it unfolds.

Absolutely Intellectually Dishonest
Revisado: 04-16-25
This was the most incredibly dishonest book I've ever read.
Instead of revealing insights into both campaigns, Whipple uses this book to recycle every false and every partially true anecdote about Trump, while making Harris seem like the only woman who could lead America back from the disaster of the Biden administration. He somehow fails to connect the dots between the results of Bidenomics and Harris' assertion that she'd do nothing different than Joe did, and that she was always the "last person in the room" when decisions were made.
Whipple makes excuses for why Harris failed to meet with podcaster Joe Rogan, when any sentient being knows she did not have the ability to think on her feet and spar with Rogan for 3 hours. Whipple drags out the predictable "very fine people" and the Madison Square Garden rally that the left tried to equate to a racist rally from almost a hundred years ago.
Whipple fails to address the issue of Harris being a lousy candidate, the Queen of word salads, and a woman who ended her 2020 candidacy before one primary vote was cast. Whipple fails to acknowledge Harris' unpopularity within Democrat circles.
Look: if you're a fan of Rachel Maddow, if you think CNN and MSNBC are honest brokers, then this book is for you. If, on the other hand, you'd paid attention throughout the campaign, you would recognize this book for the smarmy smear it is.

Claudia is used to disregarding her fractious family’s model-minority expectations: she has no interest in finding either a conventional career or a nice Chinese boy. She’s also used to keeping secrets from them, such as that she prefers girls—and that she's just been stealth-recruited by Veracity, a referrals-only online-dating detective agency.

It’s summer in Memphis. The sweat is sticking to Rudy Baylor’s shirt and creditors are nipping at his heels. Once he had aspirations of breezing through law school and punching his ticket to the good life. Now he doesn’t have a job or a prayer—except for one: an insurance dispute that leaves a family devastated and opens the door for a lawsuit, if Rudy can find a way to file it. By the time Rudy gets to court, a heavyweight corporate defense team is there to meet him. And suddenly he’s in over his head, plunged into a nightmare of lies and legal maneuverings.

I read this book long after I saw the movie, and as always the book is much better. One criticism = if Grisham has any input regarding who reads his books, Frank Muller should never be considered again. Michael Beck is amazing, as is Dennis Boutsikaris.

Historia
Geoff Shepard had a ringside seat to the unfolding Watergate debacle. As the youngest lawyer on Richard Nixon’s staff, he personally transcribed the Oval Office tape in which Nixon appeared to authorize getting the CIA to interfere with the ongoing FBI investigation, and even coined the phrase “the smoking gun.” Like many others, the idealistic Shepard was deeply disappointed in the president. But as time went on, the meticulous lawyer was nagged by the persistent sense that something wasn’t right with the case against Nixon.

Save Your Money
Revisado: 08-27-24
Anyone born after 1955 - most Americans alive today - did not live through and experience the Watergate era. This book, written 50 years after the fact, attempts to explain/justify to readers with no contemporaneous knowledge that everything they thought they knew about the scandal is wrong.
Inasmuch as many of the direct Watergate participants are no longer alive today to tell their story, and inasmuch as "setting the record straight" benefits no one at this point, my recommendation would be to use your Audible credits more wisely and choose something else.
Facts are stubborn things: whether or not Nixon knew or participated in the planning, there was a "plumbers team," there were break ins a Dr. Fielding's office and the DNC HQ, and there was a cover up that lasted more than a year. Even if everything author Shepard has written is 100% correct, to quote Hillary Clinton "At this point, what difference does it make?"

Historia
In 2020, the novel coronavirus pandemic made it painfully clear that the U.S. could not adequately protect its citizens. Millions of Americans suffered—and over a million died—in less than two years, while government officials blundered; prize-winning economists overlooked devastating trade-offs; and elites escaped to isolated retreats, unaffected by and even profiting from the pandemic.

A great deal of valuable information, presented well by the authors. McLean has done excellent work in the past on Enron and the 2008 financial crisis, and I salute her research and writing. It does seem in this book she reveals her personal political point of view.

Historia
For centuries, oceans were the chessboard on which empires battled for supremacy. But in the nuclear age, air power and missile systems dominated our worries about security, and for the United States, the economy was largely driven by domestic production, with trucking and railways that crisscrossed the continent serving as the primary modes of commercial transit.

Very interesting analysis of global shipping/commerce. Tended toward the wonky, which is a plus if you’re looking to gather knowledge.
Author went off the rails when he revealed his bias by blaming everything on global warming. Should have stuck with commerce and military data.

Historia
Many Americans have no idea how badly our largest Democrat-run cities have deteriorated. We've been complacent for far too long, assuming that the craziest elements of the radical Left would stay confined to the East and West coasts. But crime, drug addiction, homelessness, left-wing school indoctrination, so-called inclusive housing policies, and outrageous taxes don’t stay within the big city limits of places like Los Angeles, Chicago, Portland, New York, Seattle, and San Francisco.

Not even close to his best
Revisado: 11-04-23
The reader isn’t up to the task. Grisham usually has Michael Beck do the narration, and Beck is one of the best.
The return of the McDeere’s is formulaic and the payment of money is unbelievable. The ending seems like Grisham just got tired of writing.

Historia
In American Marxism, Mark Levin explained how Marxist ideology has invaded our society and culture. In doing so, he exposed the institutions, scholars, and activists leading the revolution. Now, he picks up where he left off: to hold responsible the true malefactors steering our country down the wrong path. Insightful and hard-hitting as ever, Levin proves that since its establishment, the Democrat Party has set out to rewrite history and destroy the foundation of freedom in America.

Awesome amount of information, and it should be required reading in every high school senior year, before colleges get a chance to pervert the thinking of our youth.
One small criticism for Mr. Levin: Your scholarship and your research are without equal, and I suspect we all share your passion for the truth. That said, I respectfully suggest you leave the narration to others whose voice is not so volatile.
