Historia
When Dr. Michael Greger, founder of NutritionFacts.org, dove into the top peer-reviewed anti-aging medical research, he realized that diet could regulate every one of the most promising strategies for combating the effects of aging. We don’t need Big Pharma to keep us feeling young—we already have the tools. In How Not to Age, the internationally renowned physician and nutritionist breaks down the science of aging and chronic illness and explains how to help avoid the diseases most commonly encountered in our journeys through life.

Dr. Greger suffers from confirmamation bias
Revisado: 12-31-24
The book is filled with facts. Yet, my conclusion is that it adds up to little information. It is too long, refers to too many studies and external videos and fails to provide a clear answer to “how not to age”. The author’s bias towards a plant-based diet is clear and perhaps overwhelming to the reader. His biases lead Dr. Greger to suffer from significant confirmation bias as a result. He does not understand how or why homo sapiens evolved to be omnivores. He should read Herman Pontzer’s “Burn, How New Research Blows the Lid Off How We Really Burn Calories, Stay Healthy, and Lose Weight” and Richard Wrangham’s book “Catching Fire, How Cooking Made Us Human” to gain a better perspective on human nutritional evolution. Still I found the wealth of information somewhat useful and I would not pass up this book based only upon my critique.

Historia
Artist, technologist, and philosopher James Bridle’s Ways of Being is a brilliant, searching exploration of different kinds of intelligence—plant, animal, human, artificial—and how they transform our understanding of humans’ place in the cosmos. What does it mean to be intelligent? Is it something unique to humans, or shared with other beings—beings of flesh, wood, stone, and silicon? The last few years have seen rapid advances in “artificial” intelligence.

Arrogant writing

The book offers little real thought or analysis. It is often a screed against modern societal practices. Don't waste your credits, money, time and attention on this drivel.

Too much harping on one thing. The title is misleading. Book could have been a fraction of its length, conveyed the same message and been a much better listen/read.

Historia
The knowledge of death is so terrifying that we live most of our lives in denial of it. One of the most difficult moments of childhood must be when each of us first realizes that not only we but all our loved ones will die—and there is nothing we can do about it. Or at least, there hasn’t been. Today, we are living through a revolution in biology. Giant strides are being made in understanding why we age—and why some species live longer than others. Could we eventually cheat disease and death and live for a very long time, possibly many times our current lifespan?

Historia
Two teenagers, a Greek Cypriot and a Turkish Cypriot, meet at a taverna on the island they both call home. In the taverna, hidden beneath garlands of garlic, chili peppers and creeping honeysuckle, Kostas and Defne grow in their forbidden love for each other. A fig tree stretches through a cavity in the roof, and this tree bears witness to their hushed, happy meetings and eventually, to their silent, surreptitious departures. The tree is there when war breaks out, when the capital is reduced to ashes and rubble, and when the teenagers vanish.

Rambling book that often goes awry

I thought this book was about the study of language. It is not in fact. It is for the most part a series of anecdotes that have little to do with the purported subject. Don't buy and make the same mistake I did.

Historia
Since the 16th century we have been fascinated by Henry VIII and the man who stood beside him, guiding him, enriching him, and enduring the king's insatiable appetites and violent outbursts until Henry ordered his beheading in July 1540. After a decade of sleuthing in the royal archives, Diarmaid MacCulloch has emerged with a tantalizing new understanding of Henry's mercurial chief minister, the inscrutable and utterly compelling Thomas Cromwell.

Wonderful narration. Incredibly well researched. However, the book includes myriad side trips to lesser known Cromwell contemporaries which distracted me from getting a sense of who Cromwell was. Overall it is well worth the time and effort to read.

Historia
This pioneering account sets out to understand the structure of the human brain - the place where mind meets matter. Until recently, the left hemisphere of our brain has been seen as the "rational" side, the superior partner to the right. But is this distinction true? Drawing on a vast body of experimental research, Iain McGilchrist argues while our left brain makes for a wonderful servant, it is a very poor master.

Historia
Retired policeman Tom Kettle is enjoying the quiet of his new home, a lean-to annexed to a white Victorian Castle in Dalkey overlooking the sea. For months he has barely seen a soul, but his peace is interrupted when two former colleagues turn up at his door to ask questions about a decades-old case. A traumatic case which Tom never quite came to terms with. His peace is further disturbed by a young mother and family who move in next door, a woman on the run from her own troubles. And what of Tom’s family, his wife June, and their two children?

Beautiful words but bad writing that ignores the need to engage the reader. It is a book that indulges the author's ego while taking forever to tell a story. Wish I had not wasted money on this.
