Maas has built a career on writing whatever she wants, and I love her for it. I come here specifically to revel in the romance, the melodrama, and especially the streamy smut.

I watched Belgravia when it aired.last year, and have been wanting to read the book ever since. In all honesty, it's so similar to the show that if doesn't add much beyond confirming some characters thoughts and motivation. But while the story might not add much, it's still very well written, and a pleasure to hear.

Juliet Stevenson's voice is exactly what it was when I listened to her her Austen readings years ago - boring, and a bit dry. But that's personal preference, her performance is solid.

Even Christian Gray had a safeword

I can see why this story would appeal to... but there were so many things that just don't work. The BDSM doesn't both me on principle - but the way it was handled did. There's no safeword. No agreement between Peter and Azalea. Their relationship feels abusive, but it's lampshaded, because Peter realizes he's doing the same thing her mother did. If Azalea were all into it, understanding the situation, and agreeing to it, I would accept that it's just a fantasy. But I don't like the way it's wrapped up in a way I feel is a misunderstanding of how BDSM works.

Even Christian Grey has a safeword.

Now, in all fairness, when I looked past that, for the most part I was able to enjoy it as just a fun, trashy story.

But the finale, the epilogue especially, felt completely unearned. I felt as though the writer was just trying to hit the numbers, without the scene trying to feel natural at all.
