Historia
At long last, Lady Sybil has lured her husband, Sam Vimes, on a well-deserved and long-overdue holiday. But for the commander of the City Watch, a vacation in the country is anything but relaxing. The balls, the teas, the muck—not to mention all that fresh air and birdsong—are more than a bit taxing on a cynical city-born and -bred copper.

Not great to listen to
Revisado: 01-15-18
I've read a lot of sci fi, and I've just started really listening to books on audible. I'm guessing this story may be a better read than it is a listen. Half feels like a children's book and the other half just wasn't interesting enough to keep me focused. I tried several times to listen through to the end, but found myself wondering, and it would become back ground noise. The performance is well done considering the source material, but it just didn't spark me as worth the credit I used to download it. Such a disappointment when compared to some of the other work by the author.

Thousands of years hence, many races inhabit a universe where a mind's potential is determined by its location in space, from superintelligent entities in the Transcend, to the limited minds of the Unthinking Depths, where only simple creatures and technology can function.

i think if i had read the story rather than listening to it i might have been able to get it, but i don't think i liked the story enough to read the book. I'll just wait for the inevitable movie.

well performed. The stories are definitely memorable. Different from most apocalyptic books but vague familiarity by how much it is referenced by other books and video games (Fall Out). will always be favorite of mine.

Historia
For centuries, men and women have manned lighthouses to ensure the safe passage of ships. It's a lonely job, and a thankless one for the most part - until something goes wrong, until a ship is in distress. In the 23rd century, this job has moved into outer space. A network of beacons allows ships to travel across the Milky Way at many times the speed of light. These beacons are built to be robust. They never break down. They never fail. At least, they aren't supposed to.

It's a pretty good story to pass the time. If you're new to Hugh Howey I would suggest starting with some of his other work and then maybe delving into Beacon.

Waste of time.

It's terribly boring sci-fi porn. Not one chapter goes by without a description of a sexual encounter. Performed well by the person reading it, but the story is completely lacking in any substance.

Historia
A happy workforce is a productive workforce. At the moment, the Wizard's employees are neither. The goblins are upset with their working conditions, the dragonslayer has thrown a hissy fit over his medical insurance (or lack thereof) and everyone is upset about the terrible canteen coffee. Yet the Wizard hasn't got time to worry about revolution in the workplace - he's about to see his brilliant business plan (based on entrepreneurial flair and involving one or two parallel worlds) disrupted by a clueless young man.
