Historia
It’s spring and Three Pines is reemerging after the harsh winter. But not everything buried should come alive again. Not everything lying dormant should reemerge. But something has. As the villagers prepare for a special celebration, Armand Gamache and Jean-Guy Beauvoir find themselves increasingly worried. A young man and woman have reappeared in the Sûreté du Québec investigators’ lives after many years. The two were young children when their troubled mother was murdered, leaving them damaged, shattered. Now they’ve arrived in the village of Three Pines. But to what end?

Too many
Revisado: 12-29-22
There were too many names; too many story lines
although it all comes together in the end. You do learn more about Gamache and Jean Guy's relationship. I do love visiting Three Pines, especially enjoy the food descriptions.Makes me want to be there sharing it with them by a warm fire.

Disappointed
Revisado: 08-31-21
At a time when so many of us are stressed and looking to escape from the pandemic, Louise Penny has let down. All the unpleasant. depressing subjects she describes in such detail make for more cause for sadness, not the escapism I hoped for.

Not what I expected
Revisado: 07-22-21
After listening to the comments from Oprah and the author, I expected the story to be about former slaves having to deal with their "new freedom". They said this had not been done before. I kept waiting for that but it turned our primarily about the effects on slave owners. The changes in the main characters were also somewhat unbelievable .

Enjoyed Jake for a third time
Revisado: 11-14-20
Michael Beck is an amazing narrator and makes it worth listening to it. It couldn't be as good just reading it.
The novel could have used more editing though. Some of the information was repeated too many times. In spite of that, I enjoyed it. Grisham lets you know his characters well.

Historia
One hundred and fifty years ago, Chawton was the final home of Jane Austen, one of England's finest novelists. Now, it's home to a few distant relatives and their diminishing estate. With the last bit of Austen's legacy threatened, a group of disparate individuals come together to preserve both Jane Austen's home and her legacy. These people - a laborer, a young widow, the local doctor, and a movie star, among others - could not be more different and yet they are united in their love for the works and words of Austen.

Loved it
Revisado: 06-22-20
I enjoyed this very much. The narration was unexpected because it was a male doing the parts but it did not detract from the story. He did a great job. I do wish that I had read more recently the books that they referred to. I'm now going to rectify that by going back to them and then I will listen to this one again. I think I will enjoy it even more.

I have enjoyed this series but I hate having to wait two years to find the results of the latest problem. I actually held off on this one and have not yet listened to the next one, which is available. I don't like feeling manipulated. I understood that originally this was to be a trilogy but I guess Archer is making too much money on this. I wonder whether he will finally stop after episode 6.

Historia
Over the course of 10 Mitford novels, fans have kept a special place in their hearts for Dooley Kavanagh, first featured in At Home in Mitford as a barefoot, freckle-faced boy in filthy overalls. Now, Father Tim Kavanagh's adopted son has graduated from vet school and opened his own animal clinic. Since money will be tight for a while, maybe he and Lace Harper, his once and future soul mate, should keep their wedding simple.

Last in Series or Start of new one
Revisado: 10-25-15
It's always a joy to learn that a Fr. Tim novel is available and I was delighted that John McDonough was back as Fr. Tim. I didn't like those other "impostors". Having said that, I was a bit disappointed with the story. The switches between characters were not always clear and anyone who picked up this as their first book of this series couldn't possibly appreciate the Mitford characters that are mentioned in passing. I was happy that I had their histories as I was visiting those old friends.
The story was obviously all about Dooley and Lace and in that sense, it was good to see them come to this important time in their lives.
Fr. Tim is getting older and I wonder if Jan Karon is planning to continue the series with the newlyweds.

Another exciting Baldacci
Revisado: 11-26-13
My husband and I listened to this book together and we kept turning to it every chance we got so see what happened next. The only problem I had was that because we watched the King and Maxwell TV show, I kept picturing the actors from the show (whom I really like) and the voices I was hearing seemed wrong as a result. I've never been keen on Orlagh Cassidy as Maxwell and that made it worse.
Authors now have to offer two books in a sense. The audience that purchases an audio book is purchasing one that is different from the written version due to the added dimension of the readers/performers. For this reason, I'm glad that audible gives us the opportunity to rate the story apart from the performance.
I would like to see the audio recording companies omit the sound effects that are being added to so many action books. I don't think they enhance the authors' works.
