Historia
Frannie and Larry Shoemaker love taking their grandchildren, Sabet and Joe, camping with them. But at Bluffs State Park, Frannie finds herself worrying more than usual about their safety, and when another young girl disappears from the campground in broad daylight, her fears increase. The fun of a bike ride, a flea market, marshmallow guns, and a storyteller are quickly overshadowed. Accusations against Larry and her add to the cloud over their heads. Frannie begins to puzzle out the mystery.

G rated , So So Writing
Revisado: 11-24-21
I read and listened to this book . Thank you to Michelle Babb , the narrator , for a free copy of this book .
This was a quick read . I read the prequel and the first book before this , just to read them in order.
That being said , I think you could pick them up and read in any order, as it doesn’t seem to make much difference .
Not being a previous cozy reader, I’m not sure how to judge these based on others.
I enjoyed the camping background , but the rest of the book was mediocre to me. I didn’t really care much about any characters or what happened to them.
The narration was done well . I’m not sure if I’ll continue with these or not.

Clean book
Revisado: 11-22-21
As a new cozy listener, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect with this book. It was ok…good but not great. The narrator did a decent job, but the story was a bit weak in my opinion.
Being a lifelong camper, I found parts of the camping , cooking, etc interesting, but the rest of the book was a bit watered down.
The end which gives camper tips and recipes was the best part.

Toss Up
Revisado: 03-14-20
I recently listened to this twice . One book is read by the author but was abridged , so I purchased this copy to hear the complete story.
The book is about 3 generations of women living together My favorite character was the Grandma, who was feisty and outspoken , and sort of known as a healer of sorts.
I found both narrations unique , although if you want a book professionally narrated, I’d go with the unabridged version read by Kate Fleming.
I liked the version by the author. It was no frills, but I liked listening to her accent.

Historia
Nobody knows the people of Wooster, Ohio, better than switchboard operator Vivian Dalton, and she’d be the first to tell you that. She calls it intuition. Her teenage daughter, Charlotte, calls it eavesdropping. Vivian and the other women who work at Bell on East Liberty Street connect lines and lives. They aren’t supposed to listen in on conversations, but they do, and they all have opinions on what they hear - especially Vivian.

Jealousy....
Revisado: 03-14-20
....seems to be the main thread running through this story . Many of the main players are jealous of those that look better, are wealthier , etc.
The author writes about an area I know well , but the book takes place about a decade before I came into the world.
I liked the story, although a few times when the author flips back and forth in time, sometimes switching characters, it was a bit hard to follow .
None of the characters were likable to me , but it was good enough that i wanted to finish the book to see what happens.
Being from this general area, I found the places and streets familiar, plus the “ news” stories were of quite an interest.
I found one to be true, but couldn’t find verification that the other happened, although it may have and I just can’t locate it. Those parts were probably my favorite.
My only issue with the book is that it’s called small town . The town this took place in is our county seat and the population is probably near 30,000 .. To me, that’s not a small enough town for everyone to know everyone else’s business.

Good, not great
Revisado: 01-18-20
This author is a wonderful writer , and while this book was good, it seemed to have too much stuff crammed into one story , to the point of being unbelievable. I know it’s fiction, but he just seemed to try too hard and pack too much into the book. Ordinary Grace is one of my all time favorite books, but this just didn’t live up to that standard.

Historia
For the inimitable Lee Smith, place is paramount. For 45 years, her fiction has lived and breathed with the rhythms and people of the Appalachian South. But never before has she written her own story. Set deep in the rugged Appalachian Mountains, the Grundy of Lee Smith's youth was a place of coal miners, mountain music, and her daddy's dimestore. It was in that dimestore - listening to customers and inventing life histories for the store's dolls - that she began to learn the craft of storytelling.

I like Lee Smith’s fiction, but...
Revisado: 11-17-19
this memoir of her life was ok , but best read in print. It’s not action packed, but a pretty G rated story without a lot to recommend it.
I’d steer clear of the audio version if possible. The narrator should have at least a bit of a Southern voice , but Nope. And the parts in it when she sings ! 😱. I don’t, as a rule, like singing in my audiobooks. This lady warbles like a sparrow being hit by a semi truck.
Sorry, I hate giving low ratings, but I’d have a hard time recommending this , especially in audio.

Revisado: 10-28-19
This book is told from multiple viewpoints about the hunt and arrest of the DC snipers . It goes into lots of detail about all the behind the scenes things that happened. You get to know the FBI profilers, the killers, and several family members of the victims. A very well told story with great respect and attention to the victims. You really don’t get to know much about them by watching the news. It sounds as if our world lost some beautiful people the day these guys went on their rampage.

Historia
The case began in New Brunswick, New Jersey, in 1922 and lasted for over a decade. The killer has never been found, and the case continues to fascinate true-crime aficianados. A bon vivant Episcopal minister, a not-so-virginal soprano in his choir. The wealthy wife. Her oddball brother. Their furtive maid. The snooping congregants. The bumbling detectives. And in the denouement, a trial, one of the more notable of America’s Jazz Age, covered by the likes of Damon Runyon, Dorothy Dix and James Thurber. All of it hanging on the dramatic testimony of a single, strange witness.

Narrator talks like an Auctioneer
Revisado: 10-23-19
I read LOTS of true crime. I’ve read about this case before, but thought I’d give this book a try to see their take on the story. There’s too much info, a very confusing case with more than one trial, and dozens of witnesses. It’s quite confusing when it’s all shoved into a 2 hour book. I really like Audiobooks, but this one was just too confusing. Not sure if it was the writing , the narrator, or both. 2🌟 for effort.
