Birding and travel. Win win.
Revisado: 11-29-23
Sometimes I forgot the author wasn’t reading the book. Great expression and the reader obviously had a connection with birds. I will probably listen again which is something I seldom do. The author’s tone was sharing his adventure. Not bragging or just listing birds. I felt as if I made the Big Year with him.

Historia
Aleen Cust has big dreams. And no one―not her family, society, or the law―will stop her. Born in Ireland in 1868 to an aristocratic English family, Aleen knows she is destined to work with animals, even if her family is appalled by the idea of a woman pursuing a veterinary career. Going against their wishes but with the encouragement of the guardian assigned to her upon her father’s death, Aleen attends the New Veterinary College in Edinburgh, enrolling as A. I. Custance to spare her family the humiliation they fear.

Drags in places but overall an interesting account of this time in history. Wish she had been given her rightful title when it still mattered to her.

Historia
In What It's Like to Be a Bird, David Sibley answers the most frequently asked questions about the birds we see most often. This special brand-new audio edition is geared as much to nonbirders as it is to the out-and-out obsessed, covering more than 200 species. While its focus is on familiar backyard birds—blue jays, nuthatches, chickadees—it also examines certain species that can be fairly easily observed, such as the seashore-dwelling Atlantic puffin.

I’m thoroughly enjoying this series! As a birder, they are in depth enough that I feel part of the story. But not like I’m reading a textbook or guide.

Another favorite! Birding, drama and mystery!
Revisado: 07-01-23
I love these books. And the ending of this one was excellent. No spoiler here but if you love birding and a mystery with a twist at the end… this is a good choice for you. I saw this series recommended in an international birding group and it doesn’t disappoint. I just hope they keep coming! I’m already sad about running out of new stories in a few weeks.

Historia
Why would a killer ignore expensive jewellery and take a pair of turtledoves as the only bounty? This is only one of the questions that piques Chief Inspector Domenic Jejeune's interest after a senior attaché with the Mexican Consulate is found murdered alongside the director of a local bird sanctuary. The fact that the director's death has opened up a full-time research position hasn't eluded Jejeune either. Could this be his escape from policing?

I saw this series recommended on a birding page on social media. I’m addicted now. Just the right balance of birding ephemera and whodunit.

I’ve read many iterations of Sherlock but this is one of my favorites. The stories are right on the edge of plausible while providing a level of fantasy. As an adult reader I give them an A+.

To me this author has captured the tone and gentle intrigue of the original. Classic brain teasing whodunnit. I wish there were more of these.
