A healthy way to understand high performance
Revisado: 03-29-24
If your're interested in high performance frameworks and top level scientific research, this is a must read book. I found a total complement if you're, as me, reading books from authors like Cal Newport or Ryan Holiday.
Through this content I found gold material not only on highly productive tips to confront life and work. This is another way to understand performance, one very focused on people's well-being besides the usual content in this topic.
I found gratification to read someone at this level of performance and very young, but telling us about is ok to be tired, get rest and focus over accomplishment through the life path associated with personal goals at every level.
What else can Ali show is in a near future? I'll surely wait to read the next book.

Hustle culture. Burnout. Quiet quitting. Today we're either sacrificing ourselves on the altar of success or we're rejecting the idea of ambition entirely. But it doesn't have to be all or nothing. There is a way to create meaningful work as part of a balanced life, and it's called 'slow productivity'. Examining the stories and habits of ancient and modern scientists, philosophers, artists and scholars who worked in this way, author Cal Newport reveals just how transformative the slow productivity approach can be to producing a meaningful body of work.

A game changer on quality over productivity
Revisado: 03-17-24
After months reading over productivity frameworks, here I found is a new approach to consider if you're looking a dramatic improvement tactic over your work path over time.
In this book Newport (again) encapsulate how to perform at maximum quality delivery in knowledge work, but in a consistent approach over 3 main pillars: quality, doing less, natural pace. During the narration I found pretty great examples in arts, music, writers about how great results are based on the practice of strategic slowness.
If you read Newport before, this book is a new gold work for more improvements to knowledge workers.
Finally, it is an awesome ending to years of promoting the concept of slow productivity, I've been following Newport since years on the podcast and others interviews since the concept first arise. In the book there are more surprises that in the online content wasn't mentioned.

Historia
Modern knowledge workers communicate constantly. Their days are defined by a relentless barrage of incoming messages and back-and-forth digital conversations - a state of constant, anxious chatter in which nobody can disconnect, and so nobody has the cognitive bandwidth to perform substantive work. There was a time when tools like email felt cutting edge, but a thorough review of current evidence reveals that the "hyperactive hive mind" workflow they helped create has become a productivity disaster, reducing profitability and perhaps even slowing overall economic growth.

Perfect start worrying about productivity at work
Revisado: 01-27-24
In this book I found vey key concepts not to get fully productive tomorrow, but the right steps in order to be less productive from now.
Newport (again) puts every in his great brain to makes us conscientiousness about the importance of stop wasting time, even if your environment gets crazy all the time. Measure your work environment and you'll succeed with Newport advices in order to push towards productivity.
I personally love the way he show the high performance examples, well studied in every possible detailed manner to get us the all picture of the effort that takes towards productivity. At the same time, he give us the little steps to increase progressively our systems and look at the details to conquer.
This books was needed after deep work came out. Hope slow productivity show us the rest of the end of this book.

At most technology companies, you'll reach Senior software engineer, the career level for software engineers, in five to eight years. At the career level, your company's career ladder won't require that you work towards the next promotion; being promoted further is an exception rather than expected. This is also when many engineers are first given an opportunity to move into engineering management.

This is the way to get the next level in tech
Revisado: 10-22-23
I wasn't sure that there was an alternative to manager in tech roles, but this book gave me the lights to pursue a career with future, again, outside of managerial.
As engineer in general, we're told to do the hard things and get promoted. What if the promotion you're looking for is not related to manage, you want to stay in tech roles but don't know how or what roles is beyond seniority.
This book will clear our minds in terms of what and how looking for the next steps in tech roles. Stuff+ engineering roles are key in organizations, don't fooll yourself if your still want to groth outside seniority. Every chapters seemed to me a precious advice in terms of how and wath to do exactly to get your next role in tech.
Finally, the interviews were awesome too. Each experience contributed me as much as the chapters topic. Hope the next gen of stuff+ engineering roles will benefit from this book.

I meet this book looking for some easy advice in terms of growth my managerial abilities. What I found was a complete framework, and a very friendly step by step guide in order to continuously scale as manager, but also to resolve most common issues that I didn't see as issues before.
One of the aspects that I liked the most is the experience and well documented research on leading teams and the extra material that authors have been work on.
Quite precise material as first approach to improve leading skills. Very recommended if you have experience or you're diving this path.

Awesome book for technologist
Revisado: 05-19-23
This was the first book that I read of the devops books series. I wasn't expecting such a great IT novel and identified myself with a bunch of characters over the story.
I couldn't wait to know what happened every chapte, I finished the book in record time for me. The story truly captured my attention every second.
As technologists we some time feel that everything is over, but this book is capable of show us that IT reality must sometimes suffer to born again and improve.

In The Unicorn Project, we follow Maxine, a senior lead developer and architect, as she is exiled to the Phoenix Project, to the horror of her friends and colleagues, as punishment for contributing to a payroll outage. She tries to survive in what feels like a heartless and uncaring bureaucracy and to work within a system where no one can get anything done without endless committees, paperwork, and approvals. One day, she is approached by a ragtag bunch of misfits who say they want to overthrow the existing order, to liberate developers, to bring joy back to technology work.

I hope soon they release the next book
Revisado: 05-19-23
I love the story, It's so sad the this is the second and the last (for the moment) chapter of the novel.
if you liked the first book, the second make its work to provide the reader a different but at the same time a detailed continuation of the story.
As technologists, I found some tranquillity that every effort counts, besides difficulties, some messines its necessary in the life of an Enterprise to get better and conquer.
Hope the author are making the next book.
