Historia
Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

Good Book, Great Series
Revisado: 05-05-23
It's a slow burn at the start, and honestly for much longer than I'd have liked. But at the recommendation of friends I kept on, and I'm very glad I did. Even when the action and plot are slow moving, the characters and world building are great. And the overall series is well worth getting past the good-but-slow first half of the first book in order to enjoy it.

Historia
Fire chief and werewolf Titus Merrow has a pretty good life. Great family, great job, great friends. No love interest, sure, but he’s got too much going on to worry about that. Like the 10K race for charity that he’s helping to plan. Too bad the woman he’s planning it with is so hot. No, wait. He meant annoying.

Pretty Good Entry in a Great Series
Revisado: 01-30-23
I enjoyed this book. It's certainly not the best entry in the NF series, but any NF is better than no NF. The idea that Jenna wouldn't question the MASSIVE coincidence of *2* pieces of her old life coming back into her life at the same time (the wraith and Ingvar) was hard to buy. For a smart police officer to take at face value the supposed unrelatedness of such an unlikely coincidence did stretch my suspension of disbelief a bit. And while it would might have been tough to do and would have required some advance planning, the believability of the antagonistic-to-romantic relationship between Jenna and Titus would have benefited from having the groundwork for their rivalry laid in previous entries, the way the chemistry between Bridgette and Sam was foreshadowed in multiple books. As it is, I just had a hard time buying the romance in this one. Still, though, I love the world of Nocturne Falls and enjoy any chance to step into it for a while. I look forward to (hopefully) many future entries in this series.

Great Addition to the Series!
Revisado: 01-25-23
Great book, as is usual for NF series. And another excellent performance as well from B.J. Harrison. My only complaint with the narration: When Imari appears towards the end of the book, why didn't he give her an accent like he did in her and Lucian's novel? Normally Mr. Harrison is very good about keeping accents fairly consistent across the series, so it was a bit jarring for Imari to go from a light middle eastern accent in one book to a standard middle American accent just 2 books later. Other than that, another great entry in a wonderful series.

Great Book, Bad Narration
Revisado: 11-04-21
This is one of my favorite books. I've read it many times over the years, but this was my first time listening to it on audiobook. To say I'm disappointed would be an understatement.
Other than being a bit saccharine at times, I have zero complaints about the story itself. My frustration is with the narration.
I don't want to be mean, but I don't see how this person was hired to do professional narration.
* Her tone is oddly nasal
* Her voice for the deaf father is disrespectful and cringy.
* Her other character voices (mostly men & children) are amateurish.
Honestly, it feels like she had no business doing professional narration while she was at this skill level. I am not trying to be mean. This book came out a long time ago, and for all I know her skill at the craft has improved immensely since then. But this recording is a great injustice to a wonderful book.
Save your credit. Buy the physical book or check it out from your local public or church library. It's a great book and well worth the read. You won't regret it. But this version is not the way to enjoy it.
Audible or Author: Please consider doing a re-release with a new recording. This gem of a story deserves to have an audiobook version that will do it justice.

Great book, good sequel, mixed performance.
Revisado: 01-26-21
The performance: Lauren's performance is great, Scott's was just ok. His pronunciation being inconsistent with what Lauren used in this and the previous book was very annoying. Additionally, there were times where he placed emphasis in strange places that made me have to do an aural double-take.
The book: Make no mistake, this is a great series. as sequels go, this is a pretty good one. There are some places where the characters actions and motivations were frustrating (and seemed inconsistent with their depiction in the first book), and there were times when I was baffled at they things the characters *didn't* say (obvious questions that any reasonable person would have asked). That said, the development of the lore, world building, and underlying mythology is excellent. While some of the sub-plots were frustrating (as described), I am overall left excited about the next book and fairly pleased with this one. In a way, I am disappointed because, with just a little tweaking, this could have been a GREAT sequel. But as it is, it is still a good sequel Inna great series.

Instant Classic in the Spirit of Roald Dahl
Revisado: 11-19-20
This book is a whimsical, magical, hilarious, and heartfelt adventure. If you like Roald Dahl, you will LOVE "Brave Ollie Possum". Adults and kids alike will enjoy this wonderful book. Many laughs and smiles were had.
Regarding the audiobook specifically, I cannot say enough good things. The author delivers the perfect narration with wonderful and hilarious voices perfectly suited to each character. I am sometimes wary of audiobooks read by the author, since skill at writing does not necessarily translate into skill at narration, but that was definitely not an issue here. If Mr. Nicolle ever gives up writing, it seems he could have an equally successful career in voice acting.
TLDR; 10/10 Great story, perfect narrator. Cannot recommend highly enough for readers of any age.

Great book/series & well executed world building!
Revisado: 07-29-20
This is an awesome book!
I know it's technically several short books put together, but length-wise it may as well be one book, and they fit together perfectly.
I have read a lot of books/series that attempt a similar style of "each book/section is from a different character's PoV". Most fail miserably, with the transitions being jarring, dissatisfying, and leaving too many unanswered questions and unresolved threads from the previous narrator. This series manages to handle it masterfully. At no point did I feel like I was forced to "lose track" of previous protagonists or story threads. The changes in PoV are done better than in any other book or series I've ever read and are woven together to feel like one cohesive narrative.
Another huge kudos to the author is the amount of tight, well crafted world building that is included in a relatively short and action packed series, without ever slowing down the pacing or feeling overtly expository. Plus, the series is built around an interesting and unique concept that does not feel derivative of other popular works - something that is a rarity in the world of supernatural/paranormal fiction.
There are some tastefully done sex scenes and some moments of violence which, while gruesome, are not drawn out unnecessarily. None of this lessened my enjoyment at all. I only mention these factors to make it clear that it is probably not suitable for young readers. This is not your standard YA dystopian fiction series, and personally I feel those elements served the story and were worth including, and only make it superior.
