Historia
An ordinary family man, geologist, and Mormon, Soren Johansson has always believed he'll be reunited with his loved ones after death in an eternal hereafter. Then, he dies. Soren wakes to find himself cast by a God he has never heard of into a Hell whose dimensions he can barely grasp: a vast library he can only escape from by finding the book that contains the story of his life. In this haunting existential novella, author, philosopher, and ecologist Steven L. Peck explores a subversive vision of eternity.

Very Harrowing Ride, Excellently Told
Revisado: 03-26-25
This story is one that I'll definitely be ruminating on for sometime. The premise is solid, the pacing is wonderful, the characters are relatable and the journey is one to remember.

This Gradually Goes Downhill
Revisado: 02-23-25
The series is okay, but I highly doubt I'd have continued past book 3 if I'd not gotten 6 books for a single credit. The story feels very scattered and obsessed with constant tests, training and tournaments. I could see it being exciting for those unfamiliar with the genre or the clear anime influences that it wears on its sleeves, but I can't help but feel that I've seen this all before and in better form.

Historia
Everly Skolder, the self-proclaimed Empress of the world, has fully embraced her inner darkness. With sheer magical might and the assistance of her devoted followers, her influence has reached a global peak. Alongside new additions to her gang—er—inner court, like her pet rat, Matty, and the mysterious Dullahan, Everly's helping the reluctant citizens of Winstead to embrace her vision of the future . . . whether they like it or not. She's charismatic, powerful, and dangerously unstable. In short, she's the perfect villainess.

This story does a fantastic job of introducing new elements, expanding on the previous characters and delving into the general world building. Definitely recommend it.

Historia
The long-awaited sequel to Jake’s Magical Market is finally here—and now with more market! Well, not quite yet. First, Jake has to survive a perilous trek through time if he ever hopes to return home to his friends, his market, and his former world. The last time we saw our intrepid hero, Jake had barely managed to escape being trapped on a dead version of his own world. Using a combination of his new powers, he threw himself backward through time, back to when the god that trapped him first rose to power.

Dropped Halfway Through
Revisado: 09-07-24
This book genuinely gets to a point of just being unenjoyable, uninteresting and never really recovered its pace. Book 1 was really solid, but this was quite a bit of a downturn.

Historia
When an ambitious teenage girl from Earth finds herself in a magical realm, she could be the hero—but she'd prefer to be the villain. When power-hungry Everly is reborn into a medieval world where elemental magic rules and she receives her elemental servants—the oddly sadistic Eris and the fun-loving Titania—years earlier than one typically would, she knows she's destined for a command of necromantic magic the likes of which her peers can only dream.

Good, Also Frustrating
Revisado: 09-02-24
There's a lot going on in this book; a lot of it is good, but some of it very much feels less than stellar in the writing department. Overall though, it's worth a listen. You might find it entertaining to dump your empathy for a few hours.

Historia
Jake is working at the neighborhood market under his apartment when the world ends. He expected nuclear war, a computer virus, or even climate change burning everyone to a crisp to bring about the downfall of civilization. But cruel and arbitrary gods from another world? Who would have guessed that? When these cruel gods shuffled Earth like a deck of cards, nothing was in the same place anymore. Monsters, dungeons, and magical items appear scattered across the globe. And suddenly, everyone has access to a new, strange magical card system that gives them magical powers.

Don't Judge this Book by its Title
Revisado: 08-26-24
I cannot stress enough that this book is fantastic, but also utterly misleading in its initial presentation. What begins as a journey of a guy dealing with an unfortunate apocalypse and running a shop quickly delves into battle with deities territory. If you're on the fence, get it. It's really fascinating. The card RPG system is also refreshing and cool.

You indeed get the juice. This book was a fantastic journey, even better than the first. A perfect blend of magic and sci-fi, with a great cast, some amazing characterization and it's all tied together by a quality narrator.

Historia
The Aftermath of a stunning victory—especially an unexpected, complete, and final victory—should be high-fives all around, listening to politicians give boring congratulatory speeches, and a well-deserved rest for the Merry Band of Pirates. Yes, the galaxy is still a freakin' mess, but that is nothing new, and for a change, that can be someone else's problem. Until, you know, something really bad happens, and only the Pirates can deal with the problem... Or not.
