Life changing book
Revisado: 06-02-24
I listened to this book on my morning walks and each chapter deeply touch my soul. But because I was walking, I couldn't do the end of chapter exercises. So I have now purchased both the Kindle version and the paper version so that I can go through it again and do the exercises. This says something about how impactful it was! Highly recommended.

An amazing sequel. Unforgettable.
Revisado: 02-07-24
I enjoyed The Pecan Man but it was not a an easy read for me because of the heavy, heartbreaking topics of sexual assault, family brokenness and addiction. This sequel brings redemption to that story. For anyone who has experienced these things or has loved sometime through them, you will be glued to the story until its satisfying conclusion. Outstanding narration too.

The narrator was fantastic
Revisado: 01-23-24
This was recommended to me as a light and easy listen. I don't consider it light because there was a theme if the long term impact of childhood sexual trauma. having said that, it was really an excellent book.

Loved everything about it!
Revisado: 11-01-23
The narration of Imogen Church captured me from the beginning. but the whole book was wonderful.. I always appreciate a historical fiction book that tells the story in a personal way without adding unnecessary side plots. I also appreciated that it had no swearing in it and even delicate topics were handled in a discreet rather than vulgar way. The appearance of Olympic champion turned missionary, Eric Liddell, was another special treat. Highly recommended for adults and teens.

Perfect in every way
Revisado: 10-24-23
I chose this audiobook because I heard that, after listening to it, a young boy said to his mom, "I loved every word of this story." And it did not disappoint. This lovely story of mystical realism spins a golden thread through the lives of children in three separate places with their own big challenges. The narration for each character is perfect and the supplemental music throughout was beautiful to listen to. This audiobook inspired me to look up all the different songs mentioned and now they have become new favorites. Highly recommended for all ages.

A sobering inside look at the children's block
Revisado: 05-11-23
The narration was excellent and the story very well-written. It kept my interest and incorporated well-researched historical details. But I have 4 starts because the ending seemed very abrupt and there was no epilogue or note to the reader to explain what was missing.

A unique angle on the London Blitzkrieg
Revisado: 11-13-22
I have read a lot of WW2 historical fiction and this was one I really enjoyed. I had not read before about the bomb squads and appreciated the research and detail the author provided. I appreciated the single timeline and the thorough epilogue explaining details of the original story upon which the novel was based. Recommended.

Historia
Romania, 1989. Communist regimes are crumbling across Europe. Seventeen-year-old Cristian Florescu dreams of becoming a writer, but Romanians aren’t free to dream; they are bound by rules and force. Amidst the tyrannical dictatorship of Nicolae Ceaușescu in a country governed by isolation and fear, Cristian is blackmailed by the secret police to become an informer. He’s left with only two choices: betray everyone and everything he loves—or use his position to creatively undermine the most notoriously evil dictator in Eastern Europe.

So informative and engaging
Revisado: 10-31-22
In the author's end note she expresses that one of her goals in writing the book is to motivate her readers to investigate more about communist Russia and read the memoirs of those who survived it. That is exactly how I feel now. I learned so much and all I want to do is find more information and read more memoirs. Excellent book on a rarely talked about subject. May we never forget.

Historia
From the day that old Nana Reja found a baby abandoned under a bridge, the life of a small Mexican town forever changed. Disfigured and covered in a blanket of bees, little Simonopio is for some locals the stuff of superstition, a child kissed by the devil. But he is welcomed by landowners Francisco and Beatriz Morales, who adopt him and care for him. As he grows up, Simonopio becomes a cause for wonder to the Morales family, because when the uncannily gifted child closes his eyes, he can see what no one else can - visions of all that’s yet to come, both beautiful and dangerous.

Mesmerizing story and narration
Revisado: 10-21-22
I'm not normally a fan of magical realism but because I have lived in Mexico many years, the historical part was very interesting to me (1910 revolution and agrarian reform). At first the female narrator's voice was hard for me to follow because it was gentle and glowing, not crisp. But I soon realized this was not a book to play while cooking or washing dishes, but rather one that deserved undivided attention. The male voice was fabulous. Eventually I was so drawn in to both narrations, that I had to set time aside to finish the story as it ran toward is climax and conclusion. In the end, I loved it and wished I could meet Simonopia.
